3 Buildings and Grounds Ø Conducted Parish Work Days. Ø Prepared class room and Great Hall space for New Hope tenant. Ø Supported Eagle Projects from external troop. Ø Trimmed and removed scrubs/trees around building. Ø Mulched and maintained play ground and flower beds. Ø Cleaned third floor attic. Ø Scheduled routine and unscheduled vendor maintenance Ø Supported setting up and taking down chairs, tables at specific events. Ø Supported the hypothermia shelter Ø Obtaining enough monthly Parish Work Day help. Ø Keeping maintenance of major system like the HVAC units within budget. Ø Keeping up with necessary ground maintenance. Ø Securing enough funds for building and ground improvement projects. Ø Complete an Energy Audit of the building Ø Inventory the life cycle of the major systems related to the church building. Ø Improve the water drainage from building. Ø Continue the Monthly Parish Work Day and attract new people to help. Ø Schedule Routine Vendor Maintenance and stay within budget. Ø Augment the Ground Maintenance Team with commercial ground keepers. Ø Improve and document building policies and procedures. Ø Support placement and enhancement of existing and new church signage.
4 Christian Education Ø Vacation Bible School (VBS) with 50+ students Ø A new nativity display made by the children Ø Held a Family Christmas Pageant Ø Moved the Sunday School classrooms to the second floor. Returned to the Rotation Model for Sunday School teaching and introduced the multimedia model of KilK for preschool instruction, tripling Sunday School enrollment Ø Built Children s Chapel into Summer Worship Ø Held two Family Fun days Ø Lenten Bible Teaching and a fall Bible Teaching with scholar John Rybicki and Pot Luck Dinner Ø Invited all to participate in a Lenten daily online devotional Ø We continue to have difficulties staffing the Sunday school classes with teachers Ø Growing the Preschool enrollment Ø In 2015 Christian Education program will expand with the creation of an adult education program to complement the children s education program. Ø Planning a mother s retreat for the fall of 2015 Ø Support the Preschool Ø Grow the children s education ministry by adding a part-time coordinator, enhancing the curriculum and creating a youth group Ø Reestablish talks with St. Timothy s rebuilding the Christian Education program
5 Christian Support Ø Pathways Mental Health Training, Ministry Minutes, Eating Disorders Seminar Ø Shrine Mont retreat Ø Fishes & Loaves Ø Greeting Card Ministry Ø Active prayer group Ø Need new Fishes & Loaves coordinator Ø Understanding and meeting member needs for support as we grow Ø Would like new members to enhance our ability to serve (comment - adding our meetings to the calendar so they are on the website and end up in the Sunday paper may be helpful in reaching this goal) Ø Mental health training on a larger scale in preparation for the Hypothermia Shelter Ø This is a question on my part - do we want to include families or children/youth in a Shrine Mont retreat or provide more information about camps even if not exclusive to our church? Ø Explore our ability to enhance our lay-caring ministry in a more formal way through organizations such at Stephen Ministry or BeFriender Ministry training
6 Communications Ø Advertisements for major events (Easter, Christmas) Ø Good pictures and activity on the Facebook page. Ø Investigated several projects (signage, projectors, webpages, computers) Ø Continued improvement in electronic communications Ø Expand promotion of church activities Ø Enlist new members for web/facebook activities. Ø Challenging schedules among team members slows progress. Ø Big projects require significant time/ money to execute (web, computers, signage) Ø Need computer and web-design expertise
7 Epiphany Preschool Ø Preschool families are attending worship here at Epiphany Ø Preschool families are returning to the preschool to enroll alumni siblings Ø Well qualified and experienced staff Ø Created a parent board Ø Lack of community awareness of the school Ø Additional budget items required by the diocese Ø Uncertainty regarding rental space and how that would effect the preschool Ø Increasing teacher pay to retain and attract qualified and experienced teachers Ø Maximizing enrollment Ø Greater integration of preschool programs with church programs and activities Ø Create signage for the Preschool to increase community awareness of the preschool Ø Holding another highly successful Vacation bible school Ø Grow the enrollment of the Preschool to fifty students Ø Hold a small fundraiser for the Preschool
8 Fellowship Ø Warm/Welcoming Weekly Fellowship Hours Ø Newcomers Wine and Cheese Ø Annual Parish Luncheon Ø Reception food set up for a parish member's father's funeral Ø Agape Feast Ø Easter's Holy Thursday dinner set the tone for worship that followed. Ø Parish Picnic Ø Did not exceed budget Ø Freezer and oven malfunctions Ø Need More Volunteers to bring/provide food and help with set/clean up Ø Loss of key committee members Ø Work with new renters on kitchen use. Ø Work to learn what members of Epiphany Episcopal want from our ministry. Ø Repeat the successes in 2014 Ø "Friendship Cafe" (monthly community and parish event) Ø Joint worship and meals with New Hope Ø Summer Time Food Truck and Movie Nights Ø Find more volunteers/committee members Ø More use of outdoor areas for social events
9 Newcomers Ø In excess of 35 households visited and were invited, and incorporated into the life of Epiphany through phone conversations, coffee dates; luncheons; letters of greeting; 7 of these families/individuals were given a welcoming loaf of bread. Ø One new volunteer joined the Loaf of Bread Ministry in the spring of 2014 to assist the lone Loaf of Bread ministry volunteer. Ø Additional volunteers needed to assist with Loaf of Bread ministry Ø Incorporating Newcomers into the life of Epiphany Ø One volunteer resigned as of December 2014, leaving only one Loaf of Bread volunteer member beginning in Ø Blending existing Epiphany folks with those new to Epiphany Ø Saying farewell to Newcomer Ministry member Ø Publicize and personally encourage members to join the Loaf of Bread Newcomer Ministry to timely and joyfully support and welcome new families and individuals to Epiphany with a goal of having at least 3 volunteers by the spring of Ø Host at least one Newcomer event Ø Build a Newcomer Ministry team Ø Shepherd newcomers through a cycle that they will feel incorporated into the life of Epiphany
10 Outreach Providing for God's world by reaching out to those in need near and far, and following Christ's teachings in this regard. Ø Food Pantry Ø FACETS Hypothermia Shelter Ø Pak-a-Thon Ø Herndon Village Network (HVN) Ø Compassion International- Amanda Ø Episcopal Relief Development (ERD)... Ø St. Anne's DR Mission trip participation/support Ø 9.3% Pledge Income; 14.1% Pledge + Giving Ø FACETS Hypothermia Shelter Ø Forming outreach relationships with other churches Ø Keeping the members of Epiphany involved in outreach without getting burned out. Ø Establish more outreach opportunities at Epiphany while maintaining and expanding last year's endeavors like the Food Pantry and Hypothermia Shelter. Ø Establish a youth and adult mission trip opportunity championed by Epiphany. Ø Continue to support hypothermia relief, and identify outreach opportunities like hot meals, homeless students & family outreach. Ø Establish hands-on outreach opportunities for the youth of Epiphany like Heifer international, collecting food and through mission trips. Ø Increase amount of giving -money and timetowards outreach.
11 Personnel Ø Established weekly staff meetings and annual reviews Ø Provided adequate benefit coverage for full time staff and training in Realm (ACS system) and in Mental Illness awareness Ø Celebrated the ministry of interim choir director Ø Training for Realm Ø More support for staff with bulletin proofreading and bookkeeping Ø Work load commensurate with time and salary Ø Volunteer help in proofreading bulletin and other printed documents; and part-time bookkeeper Ø Website reconstruction Ø Hire a part time Choir Director and Christian Educator Ø Pursue more training opportunities for growth and knowledge
12 Stewardship Ø Team attendance at diocese workshop Ø Walking the way, letter campaign Ø Commitment Sunday, presentation and celebration, follow-up thank you notes, children participation in giving Ø Increase in monetary pledges from $156,840 to $165,828, good response for time and talent Ø Most pledges are still coming from the core group (although this is a great thing, we need a broader group) Ø We desire a 100% pledge commitment, and we are still a long way off! Ø Need more finances to do all the good work of the parish, in particular family ministry and youth education, and this is the same group that needs the most encouragement to pledge time, talent and treasure.
