1 Trinity NOTES May 3, 2015 Dear Sisters and Brothers,. In the past I have talked about the impact you and I can have on one another. I was reminded of this fact this week as I sat down on the bench in the foyer which is dedicated to Steve Waters, a former parish administrator her at Trinity. There are three small drawers underneath the bench. In them, I discovered an amazing treasure. There is a collection of handwritten notes on pieces of paper in the shape of fish. There must be several dozen in these drawers and on them are things for which people are thankful. I also felt the need to reflect on the ways I am blessed. Plant Sale! We're going to be hosting some farmers/ gardeners to sell their plants. Will be a nice opportunity for folks to see the garden as well. Date is Saturday 5/9 1-4pm (still waiting on one confirmation) so coming up fast! I will need some assistance spreading the word, and I'll have more details on Sunday. 2. Garden Exchange Days with Emmanuel Greenwood: We're going to do a work swap with some folks from Emmanuel Greenwood to help them install a butterfly garden (tentative date Saturday May am) and then host them here to help us get ready for Trinity Sunday (Saturday May 30). It will a good time to meet another congregation in Region XV! Please try to save one or both of those dates if you can. 3. Garden Gathering this Saturday, 1-4pm. I will be here in the afternoon on Saturday, probably working on deer fence, so if you have some time, come by for a bit! 6 Women's Quiet Day Saturday, May 09, 2015, 10:00 AM - 3:00 PM You're invited to a Women's Quiet Day at Emmanuel Episcopal Church Drawing from the rich resources of Scripture, prayer, cinema, and conversation, a quiet day at Emmanuel Greenwood bids us nurture the stretch and imagination who is God s presence with us. The day spent together will introduce and bring to practice the reflective experience of Benedictine community and Lectio Divina, as well as engage our own narratives bringing to light the many ways the spirit of Christ is brought to play and alight therein. Sarah Wood. Sarah s history in the Episcopal life of church and school is a long one. Before her arrival in July 2014 to Asheville, NC, Sarah served at Grace Church in New York City as Assistant Rector and at Grace Church School as Chaplain. Sarah spent her first three years in ordained ministry as Chaplain at Christchurch School in Tidewater Virginia and then a four-year term as Chaplain at Holy Innocents Episcopal School in the city of Atlanta. In Atlanta, Sarah was an active priest with an Episcopal and spiritual community for the homeless called Common Ground, an Ecclesia ministry. Sarah s focus is in school chaplaincy, spending the better part of her vocational days in theological instruction, liturgical design, community engagement, and spiritual formation. Her work with young persons began as an undergraduate at The College of William and Mary where she earned a Bachelor of Arts with a dual concentration in Education and English Literature. After discernment in the Diocese of Virginia and studies at Virginia Theological Seminary, Sarah was ordained to the priesthood in May Presently, Sarah is a student in the two-year certification program in Spiritual Direction with a focus on Jungian understanding and process at The Haden Institute in Flat Rock, NC. Chaplaincy at Mission Hospital, the primary medical center in western North Carolina, and studies at Haden keep Sarah busy as she travels on the varied roads of God s commissioning. Small group work, contemplative days, and retreats have been a wonderful way for Sarah to bring together the stretch of her interests and experience. Sarah is passionate in the teaching and nurturing of all of God s children, no matter the age! 7 The Alliance for Interfaith Ministries (AIM) is looking for a part-time Intake Worker to begin July 1, The primary purpose of AIM is to provide emergency assistance to families who are threatened with homelessness, loss of power or fuel, or other temporary financial emergencies. Duties of the Intake Worker include interviewing clients, determining eligibility for financial assistance, scheduling appointments, researching local resources and referring clients to local agencies when needed, and working cooperatively with the Executive Director. The position is for 20 hours a week with flexibility in scheduling the hours. Skills required include compassion for the well-being of clients while setting boundaries as needed; a high level of honesty, integrity, discretion and moral character. Effective time management; organizational skills; excellent written and oral communication skills and comfort with phone, computer, and in-person interactions. A bachelor s degree is preferred as well as a minimum of two to three years experience in social work/human services and direct contact with the public. 8 Dear Friends, The Episcopal Church Women of the Diocese of Virginia invite you to their Spring Program and Meeting, gathering under the theme "Saying Yes to God," on Saturday, May 30, at Christ Church, Spotsylvania. The meeting will begin with registration at 1 and will end at 5p.m. following Holy Eucharist led by Father Jeffrey Packard. Bring your mothers, daughters and granddaughters and hear from speakers Michelle Trampe of the Central Justice Initiative and Captain Pearce of the Spotsylvania Sherriff's department on Human Trafficking. In addition, you will have the opportunity to participate in a hands-on project creating care packages for Empower House, a non-profit organization providing confidential domestic violence assistance in the city of Fredericksburg and the counties of Stafford, Spotsylvania, King George, and Caroline.
