3 Overview is content providers, authors, publishers, and reviewers must follow these guidelines when promoting titles on websites, advertising, and other marketing communications. Requirements for using the is badge The is badge shown in these guidelines is for use only by rightholders with an Apple-approved publication available on is and by agencies, reviewers, or other third parties authorized by the rightholder to promote the is publication. Apple reserves the right to withdraw permission to use an is badge anytime its use is inconsistent with these guidelines or is otherwise deemed inappropriate by Apple. 4 is Badge Basics The Download on is badge can be used in both marketing and advertising communications, such as print ads, video trailers, , newsletters, and websites, whenever you promote your book offered on is. Only the badge shown here is approved by Apple for use on marketing communications, and the badge cannot be modified. Download on is badge is Identity Guidelines September

5 is Badge Graphic Standards Minimum clear space and minimum size Minimum clear space is equal to one-quarter the height of the badge. Do not place photos, typography, or other graphic elements inside the minimum clear space. Minimum size is 10 mm for use in printed materials and 40 pixels for use onscreen. Always select a size that is clearly legible but not dominant. Backgrounds The is badge always appears in black and white as shown here. The gray border surrounding the badge is part of the badge artwork and must be included. The is badge can be placed on: A black or white background A solid-color background A background image as long as legibility is not diminished Localized badges Apple provides badge artwork translated into regional languages. Do not create your own version of a localized badge. Always use artwork provided by Apple without modification. The is badge is available in 38 languages. Learn more at documentation/badges.html. Minimum clear space and minimum size for advertising on mobile devices When the badge is placed on advertising with very limited layout space, such as banners for mobile devices, follow these guidelines: Minimum clear space is equal to one-tenth the height of the badge. Select a badge size that is clearly legible on the target mobile devices. The badge cannot be the dominant graphic in the layout. It must follow or be placed below the book image or company name or identity. Use the.svg format badge artwork provided for optimum legibility on Retina displays. See Artwork to the right. Artwork Badge artwork is provided in.png and.svg formats for web or onscreen communications and.eps format for use in printed materials. For online communications, you must use the Download on is badge. Provide a link to your book on is wherever the badge is used. is Identity Guidelines September

6 is Badge Do s and Don ts Do Use only current badge artwork provided by Apple. Always use a badge on marketing and advertising materials that promote your book offered on is, including: Web pages Newsletters promotions Video trailers Print advertising and promotions Web banner ads Mobile ads TV ads Outdoor advertising For online communications, use the Download on is badge and provide a link to your book on is. Use only one is badge on a layout or video sequence. Place the badge in a subordinate position on the layout following your book or company identity. The badge should be smaller than your main message, company identity, or book graphics. Don t Do not use an is badge on general promotions for your company or overall product offerings. The badge must be associated only with a book that is available on is. Do not use the badge if your media cannot reproduce the badge artwork clearly and at high resolution. Do not make the badge the primary message or main graphic on your layout. It must be secondary to your main message and company or book identity. Do not use the Apple logo. Do not use the itunes logo. Do not animate, rotate, or tilt the is badge. Do not alter the badge artwork. Do not use graphics or images from Apple s website or is. Do not use the is badge as part of a compatibility message. On merchandise hang tags or packaging, include the badge only when your book is also promoted on the hang tag or package. If the badge appears with badges that represent other platforms, place the is badge first. 8 Promoting Your s Basics When promoting your book in marketing communications, say that it is on or available on is. For example, say title on is or title, available on is. It is also correct to say that your book can be downloaded on is. Do not say is title or ipad title. When including a company name, lead with the company name followed by the book title and end with on is. For example, it is correct to say Publisher name title on is. Suggested messaging You can use these suggested messages in your communications to describe is, or you can develop your own copy. Short copy block: is lets you browse books and download them directly to your Mac, ipad, iphone, or ipod touch. Long copy block: On is, you can browse books by category or author or see featured books. Tap Search to find books by title or author. When you find the book you want, tap to see more details, look at user ratings and reviews, and download a sample. 9 Promoting Your s Terminology Definitions Usually lowercase; refers to the media type. Users buy a book just as they buy an app. They do not buy an i. Ebook Refers to products in the general electronic publishing category. Ebook is a generic term and should not be capitalized except when it is the first word in a sentence (such as this sentence). is The app that readers use to preview, buy, download, and read books. Also refers to the is Store. is Author The Mac application for creating and editing Multi-Touch books. is Store The store where customers preview, buy, and download books. The is Store is part of the is app. is Textbooks The preferred term for Multi-Touch books in the textbook category, available on is. i Do not use this term. Use book or ebook when referring to the media type or publishing category. Using the name is When using the name is in headlines or copy, always typeset is with a lowercase i and an uppercase B followed by lowercase letters. The name is begins with a lowercase i even when it is the first word in a sentence, paragraph, or title. Do not translate the name is in headlines or body copy. Always set touch with a lowercase t. The name ipad, iphone, or ipod should start with a lowercase i even when it is the first word in a sentence, paragraph, or title. When using the name Mac, always typeset Mac with an uppercase M followed by lowercase letters. Do not translate ipad, iphone, ipod touch, or any other Apple trademarks in headlines or body copy. Always set ipad, iphone, or ipod touch in English, even when it appears within text in a language other than English. Always use the correct names: ipad, iphone, and ipod touch. 10 Promoting Your s Do s and Don ts Do Always use the correct Apple product names: ipad, iphone, and ipod touch. Do not use variations such as touch or itouch. Use clear messaging. It is correct to say that a book is available on is. It is also correct to say that a book can be downloaded on is. Typeset all headlines and body copy in your promotions in a manner that is consistent with your company s identity. Match the font used in the rest of your communication when typesetting is or other Apple product names. Don t Do not copy or imitate any Apple advertising, marketing, or messaging for Mac, ipad, iphone, ipod touch, or is. Do not use headlines, copy, icons, or images from Apple s website at Do not incorporate the is badge or the is icon in headlines or body copy. Do not list Apple product names that are not compatible with your book on is. Do not imitate Apple typography. Do not suggest ownership of is. For example, do not use Get your favorite books on (Publisher name) is. Instead use Get your favorite (Publisher name) books on is. Do not translate Mac, ipad, iphone, ipod touch, or any other Apple trademark. Always set Apple trademarks in English, even when they appear within text in a language other than English. Do not use at is. Always use on is or available on is. Do not use the term downloadable. Do not include an itunes reference. For example, do not use is on itunes or itunes is. Do not indicate any kind of sponsorship or endorsement by Apple. 12 Legal Requirements Apple requirements The is badge cannot be used in any manner that falsely suggests an association with Apple or is likely to reduce, diminish, or damage the goodwill, value, or reputation associated with is or Apple itself. Trademark symbols and credit lines In communications distributed only in the United States, the appropriate symbol (, SM, or ) must follow each Apple trademark the first time it is mentioned in body copy for example: is is Store SM ipad iphone ipod touch Mac List only the specific Apple trademarks used in your communication s text. Refer to the Apple Trademark List at trademark/appletmlist.html for the correct trademark symbol. Do not add a trademark symbol to the is badge artwork provided by Apple. In all regions, use the following credit lines on all communications, listing all the Apple trademarks used in your copy: Apple, the Apple logo, is, ipad, iphone, ipod touch, and Mac are trademarks of Apple Inc., registered in the U.S. and other countries. If itunes is mentioned in the communication, include the following statement: Content purchased from the itunes Store is for personal lawful use only. Don t steal music. For communications developed for mobile devices, follow standard practices for the placement of legal copy, such as creating additional screens or providing interactive links to legal copy.
