10 Massage Specialisations Mobile and Corporate Massage In this fast-paced world, clients may not always have the time or opportunity to visit a massage clinic, so why not go to them! A mobile massage business only needs a car and a table. Corporate massage is very popular in the major metropolitan areas with large numbers of offi ce complexes, as well as hotels. Whether it is to keep their employees happy and stress free, or to entice employees into a competitive market, many employers contract therapists to come to their workplace to give their team a 15 to 20 minute seated Stress Buster massage treatment. Many people working in the corporate environment have issues with their posture from long hours behind a desk, sometimes in quite stressful environments. This is primarily a daytime operation where you will have a number of corporate clients in your location. Day Spas and Relaxation Massage People are becoming increasingly interested in looking after themselves, not only with regards to their physical health but also their mental and emotional well-being. What better way to achieve this than with relaxation massage? The opportunities to work within this area of the industry are endless. You can work in a holiday resort or day spa, either locally or abroad. You may fi nd employment in many exotic locations, ranging from tropical havens to overseas snowfi elds, or even on a cruise ship. There are also many opportunities to set up your own practice; all you need is a room and a table. Your industry specialisation is achieved through incorporating our advanced short courses into your training program. We currently provide the following short courses, please check our web site for the most current information: Strapping and Injury Management Lymphatic Drainage Deep Tissue Massage Infant Massage Body Treatments Cupping Thai Massage Lomi Lomi / Kahuna Hot Rocks Refl exology Q Academy gave me the knowledge and confidence to get out there into the business sector and open a very successful business in massage. Intensive Full Time Study - Certificate IV only This is the best program for you if you want to be able to start working and earning an income as a Relaxation Massage Therapist as quickly as possible and be fully industry trained and nationally qualified. Our Intensive Full Time program will require you to attend 5 full-days of classes a week, just as if you were at work. You will receive live, face to face, on-campus classes 7 hours a day, to study and practice massage, 5 days a week. That allows you to complete the 600+ nominal Certifi cate IV course in 16 weeks. Our intensive full time program is unique in that it is designed to help you learn massage in the most time effi cient way possible. This has proven to be the best way to learn and remember all the required skills and is just like the intensive immersion techniques used to learn a foreign language or used in the corporate world where time is money, and you don t want to waste your time or money.. All the theory subjects are taught in the morning sessions and the practical massage sessions are taught in the afternoons and the last 3 weeks of each course is a full time, on-campus clinic, where you will be treating the public and providing over 100 clinical hours of treatments per qualifi cation Standard Full-time study If you are working full time and have limited spare time to study then this is perfect because you can study on-campus outside of normal working hours or during normal working hours if your schedule allows. Our Full Time schedule requires up to 5 classes a week (17.5 Hrs a week) to be taken and we have two different schedules. - The Full Time - Day schedule is only for the Diploma of Remedial Massage HLT50307 and the Advanced Diploma of Myotherapy [22248VIC] courses. This schedule is:- Two (2) consecutive full days, plus an optional half day onsite supervised revision. - The Full Time - Day & Night schedule can be scheduled for the Certificate IV in Massage [HLT40312], the Diploma of Remedial Massage [HLT50307] and the Advanced Diploma of Myotherapy [22248VIC]. This schedule is:- Two (2) week night classes and one full weekend day, plus an optional half day on-site supervised revision. The total elapsed time can be dependent on the holidays and breaks between the Terms and the time frame between the following courses as each campus has their own course start date schedule. Please see your nearest campus to determine your estimated start and fi nish dates. To complete each course you will be treating the public with over 100 hours of clinical service during your on-campus student clinic. Hybrid On-campus and Online Study - Certificate IV only If you are working full time and have limited spare time then, just for the Certifi cate IV course, we also offer the option to study all the theory subjects online, at home, but get the hands on instruction on all the massage techniques on campus. All the Certificate IV theory subjects are provided online using our new state of the art online learning system with free support on-campus from our experienced course coaches if you need any help. This combines the best of both worlds! The fl exibility of studying the theory subjects in your own time at home and learning all the practical skills on-campus from our experienced course coaches 15
16 On Campus Advanced Learning Q Academy s Advanced (FUN) Learning Techniques are fundamental to the delivery of our Certificate IV in Massage Therapy Practice [HLT40312] and Diploma of Remedial Massage [HLT50307] courses. So what are Advanced Learning Techniques? Remember back to school, college or university, when the teacher stood at the front of the room and just talked for hours on end and you nearly fell asleep? We don t do that! To help you absorb as much as you possible, we have regular brain breaks to get you up and moving and to stay alert. Brain breaks are a great way to interact with other students and staff, and have fun learning! Have you ever wondered why you fi nd it diffi cult to recall the headline on yesterday s paper, yet if you hear a song that your haven t heard for years, the words come fl ooding back as soon as it starts? Our philosophy is that learning should be made fun, because if you re laughing you re listening, and if you re listening you re learning! People learn in different ways; some are visual learners who remember pictures and create linked images in their mind, some people are auditory learners who prefer to listen and read, and the kinaesthetic learners love to get physically involved and just give things a go. Our coaches utilise ALL of these learning styles throughout the course, to teach everything from remembering the names of your classmates, to the elements that comprise each living cell in the human body. To laugh is to listen, which is to learn! At the start of your massage course you learn about effective communication skills, how to build great relationships, and how to identify the different behaviours and characteristics that people exhibit. We continue to encourage you to practice your advanced communication techniques every day, because making people feel special, important and worthwhile is vital to the development of successful relationships and ultimately a great business. After graduating from one of our massage schools, it is often the fun kinaesthetic environment our students remember most. Our blindfolded massage class is always a favourite. If you like fun, laughter and a hands-on approach to learning, you re going to love it at Q Academy. 16

All the practical skills are demonstrated by our lecturers in great detail through DVD video sessions showing various views of the techniques as well as through detail slides in the supporting course material & manuals coupled with online assessments and quizzes. If a student request live coaching for a particular lesson they can join a on-campus class for that session and a student can make up to 8 on-campus class requests, for free, in each course. In the Certifi cate IV course the student will need to attend a Campus / Support Centre assessment session with a Course Coach to make sure they have mastered all the practical skills and receive any fi nal training before commencing the Student Clinic. Your pre clinic practical assessment for both the Certifi cate IV and Remedial Diploma will need to be done in one of our Support Centres or Campus s. 7. What are the entry conditions? Simple English reading and writing skills are all that is needed for entry into the Certifi cate IV program. If you identify yourself as having any learning diffi culty or disability, it is best to contact us and have a meeting to determine your individual learning needs. You will need access to good stable internet. We do not recommend the plug in style mobile wireless internet, not only is it very expense for the data, it s very unstable for watching video. You will also need a reliable computer or tablet* Please be aware you will need is a current first aid certificate prior to coming in to complete student clinic. It is a requirement for all Massage therapists within Australia to have a current up-to-date first aid certificate. The current fi rst aid course is HLTFA311A *As the videos are Adobe fl ash ipads will not work without a 3rd party app. At this time Android tablets work fi ne - however we recommend doing the online trial using your intended study device and internet connection prior to enrolling in the course. 20
