3 Speaker and Company Background Dan Hokanson, Director of Product Management Ecologic Analytics was founded in 2000 and it s headquartered in Bloomington, MN. Today, we employ more than 50 people in product development, product testing, customer support and sales and marketing. The founders of Ecologic Analytics were among the first to identify the need for the solution that would become the meter data management solution. Ecologic Analytics is privately held with a minority investment received from Landis+Gyr in December 2007.

8 1. Receive all outage notifications as they occur. AMI & OMS AMI systems do not typically deliver all last gasps. OMS systems may not be capable of consuming the vast increase in messaging AMI will produce. MDMS Manages high volume of transactions. Designed for multiple AMI/AMR sources. Filters and optimizes notifications for an OMS.

9 2. Identify and interpret the notifications of significance. AMI & OMS Rapid energization status changes and clock drift can make AMI data sequencing difficult. OMS systems are not designed to manage AMI data sequencing and momentary outage scenarios. MDMS Reconciles out of sequence messages and time-stamp inconsistencies (boot count). Filters out events that are not of interest. Momentary outages. Outage data already known or unnecessary to the OMS. Planned/anticipated outages.

10 3. Aggregate outage data to a common point for delivery to the OMS. AMI & OMS AMI systems deliver endpoint centric data. OMS optimizes outage data at transformer and higher levels in the distribution network. MDMS Proactively determines if there is a transformer or multiple transformer outage. Only sends the information needed to determine the entire transformer is de-energized.

11 4. Orchestration of AMI and OMS to determine the true scope of the outage. AMI & OMS AMI systems provide volumes of data, yet give an incomplete picture of outage. OMS has outage information from sources not available to AMI, such as SCADA and IVR. MDMS Receives and tracks outage information/states from both AMI and OMS. Proactively reconciles differences in two systems. Understands the behavior and latency of each system.

12 5. Receive all restoration notifications as they occur. AMI & OMS AMI systems will eventually deliver all power up notifications or other message types to show restoration has occurred. OMS systems are not designed for receipt of power up notifications. MDMS Identifies nested outages in near real-time. Proactive with a power status notification (ping). Validates assumed restorations from OMS. MDMS caches restoration status

The MDMS plays an important role in optimizing the outage and restoration lifecycle.
