4 Participants Stephen Cerrone Abigail Charpentier 95 Executive Vice President of Human Resources & Communications Hudson s Bay Company Vice President of Human Resources Aramark Stephen Cerrone was appointed executive vice president, human resources of Hudson s Bay Company (HBC) in December Prior to joining HBC, Mr. Cerrone was executive vice president, human resources for Sara Lee Corporation where he led the human resources strategy, including recruitment, succession planning, talent development, performance management, and compensation. Previous to Sara Lee, Mr. Cerrone served as executive vice president, human resources for JPMorgan/Bank One s Retail Financial Services; executive vice president, human resources for Bank One; and executive vice president, worldwide human resources for Diageo/Burger King. Mr. Cerrone earned a bachelor of arts degree in psychology from Providence College and a master of arts and PhD in industrial/organizational psychology from the University of Houston. Currently, Mr. Cerrone is a member of the Board of Trustees for Roosevelt University. Abigail Charpentier serves as vice president of human resources (HR) for Aramark s education businesses. In this role, she is responsible for leading a team of human resource professionals that support dining and facility services for more than 600 colleges and universities throughout North America; and food and nutrition, facilities management, and other support services for more than 500 k 12 school districts in the United States. Abigail joined Aramark in 1995 in the operations management-training program. From there, she became the human resources manager of the Xerox Document University, a 960-room conference center in Leesburg, Virginia. After a successful run providing HR support for the Leesburg property as well as other metro-d.c. properties, Abigail was promoted to human resources director for the Aramark Conference Center Management group. After three years in this role, Abigail had the opportunity to transition back into an operations role and became a regional director of operations, with oversight responsibility for eight conference center accounts. She returned to HR as the vice president for Aramark Harrison Lodging, where she was responsible for all aspects of talent acquisition, development, and retention for the teams working in these environments. In January 2013, Abigail assumed the role of HR vice president for sports, leisure, and corrections. In this role, Abigail had oversight of human resources field delivery across the three businesses supporting over 40,000 employees working in premier sports stadiums, concert venues, convention centers, national parks, cultural attractions, and correctional institutes. Abigail holds a bachelor of science from Cornell University s School of Hotel Administration. 2
5 Participants Chris Cunningham Rick Garlick Chief Science Officer Logi-Serve Global Practice Lead Travel and Hospitality J.D. Power and Associates Dr. Christopher J. L. Cunningham is the chief science officer for Logi-Serve, a position he has held since the company s inception. He is also a UC Foundation Associate Professor of Industrial and Organizational Psychology at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, where he teaches graduate seminars in organizational and occupational health psychology, organizational development and change, and quantitative/qualitative research methods, as well as undergraduate courses in statistics, research methods, and professional practice issues in psychology. In addition to an active research program that revolves around his competency-based selection work with Logi-Serve and his applied occupational health psychology interests at the university, Dr. Cunningham is also heavily involved in the broader applied psychology world, most notably through his involvements as an executive board member of the Society for Occupational Health Psychology and as an editorial board member for the Journal of Business and Psychology, Journal of Occupational Health Psychology, the International Journal of Stress Management, and Stress & Health. Dr. Cunningham holds a PhD in industrial and organizational psychology from Bowling Green State University and a BA in psychology from Lehigh University. Rick Garlick is the global travel and hospitality practice lead at J.D. Power. He is responsible for providing industry thought leadership to the company s clients in the hotel, rental car, airline, and cruise line industries, as well as for creating new products and revenue opportunities to grow the practice. Dr. Garlick joined J.D. Power in 2013 after nearly 20 years of consumer and employee research experience with the Gallup Organization and Maritz Research. He has a diverse research and consulting background that includes extensive experience with travel and hospitality research; employee engagement measurement and training; talent selection; brand research; customer satisfaction and loyalty programs; image and awareness studies; and national opinion polling. Earlier in his career, Dr. Garlick worked in financial services, utilities, manufacturing, entertainment, media, retail, association, and not-forprofit research. Prior to entering the private sector, he taught courses in research methods, marketing, and persuasive communication at Michigan State University and DePaul University. Currently, Dr. Garlick serves as chair of the Research Committee for the Hospitality Sales and Marketing Association (HSMAI) Foundation board. Dr. Garlick received a PhD in communication studies from Michigan State University. 3
6 Participants Carey Goldberg 93 MBA 98 Global Officer, Human Resources The Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company Danielle Hawkins 04 Senior Manager Deloitte Consulting LLP Carey Goldberg has been with Marriott International for 12 years and most recently served as the global officer for human resources (HR) at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company. At the Ritz-Carlton, Carey was responsible for HR strategies and programs to develop talent, promote organizational effectiveness, and sustain and enhance the company s service culture and brand identity. Prior to her role at the Ritz-Carlton, Carey spent eight years at Marriott International in several HR business partner positions as well as in talent management and organizational capability. Prior to joining Marriott, Carey worked at America Online (AOL) as part of the organizational effectiveness team, where she helped the company develop talent, leaders, and learning strategies. In addition, she served as dean of AOL University. Carey began her career at KPMG as a compensation consultant and after completing her master of business administration (MBA), secured a position at PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) as a senior consultant in the strategic and organizational change practice. Carey earned both her bachelor of science and MBA from Cornell University. Danielle Hawkins is a senior manager at Deloitte Consulting in the human capital practice, which focuses on the hospitality, retail, and services sectors. She has over ten years of consulting experience leading clients through large scale transformations especially on organizational, cultural, change management, and talent implications. Danielle works closely with senior executives to align and engage leaders and stakeholders and has collaborated with many Fortune 500 organizations to prepare and equip their leaders to effectively lead projects and deliver results. Danielle received her bachelor of science from Cornell University s School of Industrial and Labor Relations. 4
7 Participants JoAnne Kruse 88 Henrik Mansson 98 Chief Human Resources Officer American Express Global Business Travel European Human Resources Director Moët Hennessy - LVMH JoAnne Kruse is chief human resources officer for American Express Global Business Travel (GBT). Previously, Ms. Kruse was the founding partner of a human resources consulting firm, Human Capital Partners (HCpartners), which provided services to companies in the areas of talent development and coaching, compensation and benefits, and support of acquisition and integration projects. Prior to founding HCpartners, Ms. Kruse served as executive vice president of human resources for Travelport, responsible for global human resource functions including rewards, talent, engagement, facilities, corporate social responsibility, and internal communications. While at Cendant s Travel Distribution Services (TDS) division, the predecessor to Travelport, Ms. Kruse was executive vice president. In that capacity, she served as the human resources leader and manager for the acquisition and divestiture of more than two dozen businesses for over five years. By the time TDS was spun off from Cendant into Travelport, it had grown to more than 11,000 employees worldwide and its core brands included Galileo, Worldspan, Orbitz, Cheaptickets, and GTA. In addition to these positions, Ms. Kruse has also worked in human resources at PepsiCo/Frito Lay, Chase Manhattan Bank, and Clairol. Ms. Kruse graduated with a BS from the Cornell University School of Industrial and Labor Relations and an MA in psychology from Columbia University. Henrik Mansson is the human resources director for Moët Hennessy-Louis Vuitton Moët Hennessy, responsible for more than 50 countries throughout Europe. Prior to this position, Henrik operated his own consulting firm, supporting organizations with change, transformation, and customer experiences across hospitality, real-estate, and insurance organizations. He was also senior vice president of human resources for Swiss-based Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts, with 100 hotels in Europe, Middle East, Africa, and Asia. He was the managing director of Hotel d Angleterre in Copenhagen, and European director of human resources of Le Méridien Hotels & Resorts. Prior to these positions, he was a consultant with KMPG Consulting in London, specializing in mergers and acquisitions, change, and communication. Henrik started his career in corporate operations and human resources with the Rezidor Group, based at the company s headquarters in Brussels, Belgium. Henrik is a graduate of the Cornell University School of Hotel Administration. 5
8 Participants Yasamin Miller Alan Momeyer Director Cornell University Survey Research Institute Vice President of Human Resources Loews Corporation Yasamin Miller is the founder and director of Cornell University s Survey Research Institute (SRI). Miller has worked extensively with researchers in many areas, most notably health care and medicine, social sciences, economics, and human resource management. The SRI has conducted surveys for the presidential task force, controller of New York state, and chief econometrician of New York state, as well as for private industry. The SRI conducts an annual statewide public opinion poll of New York state residents, and in 2005, polled residents about their opinions on public funding for stem cell research. The SRI completed a survey for Alan Krueger, Princeton University professor and former chairman of the Council of Economic Advisors for the Obama White House. The survey was designed for all unemployed workers in the state of New Jersey to learn how these individuals manage unemployment during an economically challenging time. When engaged in a project, Miller works extensively with clients during the study design and planning phases. Miller is the past president of the Association of Academic Survey Research Organizations. Prior to her position at Cornell University, Miller worked at the Research, Policy, and Analysis Department at Stanford University. Alan Momeyer has been with Loews Corporation since 1980 and is currently vice president of human resources. He is responsible for overall strategy and management of the human resource functions for the New York-based diversified corporation consisting of Loews Hotels, CNA Insurance, Diamond Offshore Corporation, Boardwalk Pipelines, and HighMount Exploration and Production. Alan is chairman of the board of JobsFirstNYC (JFNYC), an organization devoted to helping the workforce development agencies of New York find employment opportunities for 200,000 out-of-school and out-ofwork young people. He is also on the board of Inside Broadway, a not-for-profit educational organization committed to promoting theatre arts in New York City public schools. Alan is former president of the board of directors of Community Access, a non-profit agency that provides housing and rehabilitation for over 2,000 homeless and mentally disabled citizens of New York. He is also former president and board member of Just One Break (JOB), an agency to employ disabled citizens, founded in 1947 by Eleanor Roosevelt and Bernard Baruch. Alan holds a master s degree from the University of Pittsburgh and a bachelor s degree from Pennsylvania State University. 6
9 Participants Judy Newman Jamie Perry Senior Director Global Human Resources The Leading Hotels of the World, Ltd. Assistant Professor Cornell University School of Hotel Administration Judy Newman is the senior director of global human resources (HR) at the Leading Hotels of the World (LHW). In this position, Judy is responsible for leading the HR operations team to ensure the efficient and aligned people processes and practices globally. Prior to joining LHW, Judy ran her own company, Grey Heron Consulting, where she delivered HR and business consulting services to companies in a variety of industries. During this time, she partnered with Grahall Consulting, a company that focuses on compensation analysis, total reward design, survey administration, and organization design. Prior to this, Judy worked nine years at Gap International, a company focused on helping organizations create and execute on performance breakthroughs. While there, Judy provided executive coaching as a Gap management consultant, led the HR team, and spearheaded the creation of a new organizational development business unit. Earlier employment experience includes working for the Hay Group as a benefits consultant and specialist. Judy holds a bachelor s degree in human resources management and another in multicultural national corporate studies. She attended the Wharton School of Business, where she studied international employee benefit plans to become a certified employee benefits specialist. Jamie Perry joined the faculty at the Cornell University School of Hotel Administration in Her research examines the sources and consequences of conflict on group processes and outcomes. Professor Perry also investigates how differences in power and status among group members impact group interactions and effectiveness. Professor Perry s work has appeared in the academic journal, Personnel Psychology as well as Travel Weekly and SAS. Perry earned a PhD in organization management from Rutgers University. 7
10 Participants Michael Sturman 92 MS 95, PhD 97 Professor, Associate Dean for Faculty Development and Director of The Center for Hospitality Research Cornell University School of Hotel Administration Michael C. Sturman teaches undergraduate, graduate and executive education courses on human resource management, compensation, and cost-benefit analysis at the Cornell University School of Hotel Administration. His research focuses on the prediction of individual job performance over time, the influence of compensation systems, and the impact of human resource management on organizational performance. He has published research articles in the Journal of Applied Psychology, Academy of Management Journal, Personnel Psychology, and Journal of Management. He has also published practitioner papers in the Cornell Hospitality Quarterly, International Journal of Hospitality Management, Lodging Magazine, Lodging HR, A.A.H.O.A. Hospitality, HR.Com, and The American Compensation Association Journal. Sturman is the Kenneth and Marjorie Blanchard Professor of Human Resources. He holds a PhD, MS, and BS from Cornell University s School of Industrial and Labor Relations, and is a senior professional of human resources as certified by the Society for Human Resource Management. Bruce Tracey Professor of Human Resources Management Cornell University School of Hotel Administration J. Bruce Tracey is a professor of management at the Cornell University School of Hotel Administration. He has taught courses in human resources management for undergraduate, graduate, and professional audiences throughout North America, Europe, and Asia. He has conducted research on a wide range of strategic and operational-level HR topics, including the impact of training initiatives on firm performance, employee turnover, employment law, and leadership. His research has been published in the Journal of Applied Psychology, the Cornell Hospitality Quarterly, and the University of Pennsylvania Journal of Labor and Employment Law. Tracey s recent sponsors for research and consulting include Four Seasons, Hilton, ClubCorp, and Uno Chicago Grill. He received his PhD in 1992 from the School of Business at the State University of New York at Albany. 8
11 Participants Emily VanHuysen Vice President of Human Resources Planning and Insights Hilton Worldwide Emily VanHuysen is a vice president in human resources (HR), leading the HR planning and insights function at Hilton Worldwide. She is responsible for building out the function that will be responsible for overseeing HR planning and priority governance, as well as developing analytical insights and forecasts for storytelling and strategic decision making. Prior to joining Hilton Worldwide, Mrs. VanHuysen was a principal at the Carlyle Group, responsible for investment valuation and investor relations business systems and operations. While at Carlyle, Mrs. Vanhuysen was also responsible for leading the Global Investment Valuations and Analytics team to implement and establish a global valuation process. She joined the firm in 2007 as part of the U.S. Real Estate Asset Management team, responsible for portfolio analysis, valuations, and analytics. Prior to joining Carlyle, Mrs. VanHuysen was a director at Fannie Mae, where she managed policy, technology, and analytics for the verification of valuations related to MBS, REMICs, mortgage loans, derivatives, and guaranty fees. Prior to that, Mrs. VanHuysen was a manager at PricewaterhouseCoopers in the mortgage banking consulting practice. Mrs. VanHuysen is a CPA and received her bachelor of accountancy from George Washington University. 9
