Eurofaculty Pskov International Masters Degree Program International Business Business in the Baltic Sea Region Dr. Peter Zettinig University of Turku, Finland
Eurofaculty Vision: An initiative fostering collaboration among Baltic Sea States Higher Education Institutions. Original Idea (1992): To develop Baltic States universities educational standards in response to geo-political changes - A knowledge and values transfer.
1999 Bologna Declaration: Focus on (a) easily readable and transferable degrees; (b) focus on a two (three) cycles system of educational standards
The development of the Masters Degree Program in the EF-P Project was driven by the question on what constitutes a meaningful initiative in higher education at the beginning of the 21st century. EF-P Masters Degree Program Focus on (a) Value co-creation (b) Innovation development (c) Learning processes
EF-P Masters Degree Program (a) Value Co-creation A network of equal partner universities creating a relevant cross-disciplinary program together, which reflects the multidimensional requirements for International Business studies in the 21st Century in the Baltic Sea Region
EF-P Masters Degree Program (a) Innovation development Creating new trajectories for utilizing the different resources and capabilities dispersed in the region and creating economic and cultural means to integrate them to strengthen the social and economic ties between actors in the Baltic Sea Region.
EF-P Masters Degree Program (a) Learning Processes To emphasize processes of learning and change that are more accustomed to deal with the collaborative learning challenges instead of emphasizing structures.
TO WHAT END?
The PURPOSE The International Masters Degree Program has the mission to transform students from different educational and cultural backgrounds into graduates who are experts in managing firms international growth in the Baltic Sea Region.
WHO Is the model graduate and what challenges does she face?
THE KNOWLEDGE WORKER Has different means to generate productivity. Productivity is the outcome of Collaborative generation of new knowledge based on an abundance of information. The intrinsic finality is to create THE SMART ORGANIZATION
THE SMART ORGANIZATION Is not working like Taylor s factory
THE SMART ORGANIZATION Requires new ways of working. Growth or decline is not linear. It follows the exponential network function: Value = (N 2-2)*1/2
THE SMART ORGANIZATION Relationships and communications Permeable organizational boundaries Cross functional, multinational dispersed teams Rather than rigid hierarchies Organizational growth is fueled by Shared organizational identity and common culture
THE SMART ORGANIZATION To achieve this people need to Identify and follow a purpose rather than KPIs. And that is the management challenge for Our graduates and future LEADERS
THE SMART ORGANIZATION s LEADER Understands how to: Build and develop organizational communities. Lead networks and teams. Give meaning and make shared identity. Empower people. Leverages shared values.
EF-P Masters Degree Program Students We continuously develop the frameworks in which our students can become those leaders. Cooperation between the consortium members encompass a shared vision and common actions. Students learn that their own success is a result of well functioning teams and that the skills, capabilities and abilities to continuously learn through challenges is a practice, and a process rather than a stock of knowledge.
So far our MA cooperation since September 2014 across 4 countries/universities our students have worked on over 220 projects together and next week we will approach 250 joint projects!
To conclude The development of MA programs is a long-term effort Building cooperation between international universities is a friendship building effort Change in this sphere is a cultural and common values building effort And the EF-P MA effort can be considered a success in the making.
Let s keep putting efforts into it THANK YOU FOR YOUR ATTENTION
