1 General Psychology 1030 General Psychology J01 and J02 Course Syllabus Fall and Spring Course Information Course Description: Learning Outcomes: This course is a study of basic psychological principles, terms, and research. Emphasis is placed on conceptual approaches to psychology, research methods, biological basis of behavior, psychological development, sensory processes, perception, learning and conditioning, memory, thought and language. 3 hours lecture. Upon successful completion of the course, the student will be able to: Demonstrate familiarity with psychology theory. Describe research methods in psychology. Apply critical thinking skills in psychology. Apply psychology in day to day life. Identify correct use of ethics in psychology. Use information and technological literacy in psychology. Communicate using the terminology of psychology. Identify socio psychological, cross gender, and cross cultural differences in human psychology. Apply psychology to personal development. Apply psychology to career planning and professional development Prerequisites: READ 0810 and ENGL 0810 Course Topics: Specific Course Requirements: Basic foundations of psychological theory will be introduced and explanations and descriptions will be studied about recent research related to biological, social and personality factors that explain, describe, predict and control the way people think, feel and behave especially as related to do dealing with healthy functioning, disease processes, and therapeutic interventions Missing classes and tardiness will result in a lowered grade. All assignments and all essays must be completed. The full point value of an assignment or essay will be deducted from the sum of all points earned when any assignment or test is not done. Whenever absent, a student is responsible to check with other students for missed class notes, updates and changes. All work will be completely and correctly labeled following directions provided or no grade may be assigned. A correct label will be on the upper right hand side of the paper and list:

It is recommended that students purchase a jump drive for this course. 3 hole punched LOOSE LEAF notebook paper is required for use in all class writing assignments. In addition to paper and bringing the textbook, every day have writing instruments such as black or dark blue ink pens or dark lead mechanical pencils to be prepared for in class assignments and tests. Buying a jump drive, flash drive, or some kind of portable memory storage device is advised to store all typed assignments in case another hard copy of a paper is requested. All typed assignments are regularly expected to be saved in the form of at least one or more second copies of back up files in digital formats that can be easily retrieved by a student when needed. Be aware that any work saved on student personal computers that are available in campus computer labs are swept out daily and such work will be lost if not saved on personal devices. Please use your campus computer account to type assignments and use the Microsoft Word software for making spelling and grammar checks to proof read and correct out of class assignments. Use campus word processing technology and print your document on campus or print at home before coming to class. Be aware that computers at home may frequently be incompatible with printers and computers on campus and documents made at home may not print out on campus. Be aware that your paper may not print on campus from a disc developed at home. Work will not be accepted on a disc, CD, portable memory devices, files or other forms when that work has been requested as a hard copy. The course final exam will be given on ground the day of the scheduled final exam. Other possible testing methods may include, but are not limited to, the following: Essay tests Short Answer Multiple Choice Matching Points will be earned on (A) A total grade of weekly chapter quizzes, (B) Group Presentation (C) Attendance (D) Homework (E) Base Group assignments Points cannot be earned for an in class activity if not in class. All work turned in will become the sole property of the instructor. Keep copies of your work before turning in assignments if desired. There are no makeup tests given. 40% Chapter Quizzes/Assessment 10% Homework 10% Attendance and participation 30% Base group work and group presentations 10% Final exam All assignments must be turned in and completed. Failing to do any assigned test or assignment will result in a zero =A, 81 to 90 = B, 71 to 80 = C, 61 to 70 = D, less than 61= F (Percent) Assignments and Projects: Due Date Week 1 Assignment Introduction to course syllabus and classroom procedures. Review for Final exam Final exam Punctuality: Attendance Policy: Class Participation: Being on time for class and coming to class is expected regularly. Poor attendance and arriving late to class and turning in work late will regularly result in lost points. An attendance policy is in effect. In compliance with the School Attendance policy, classroom doors will be shut and locked after roll is taken until the class period is over. An exception to this rule would be rare. Coming to class on time and regularly is the responsibility of any student and making plans accordingly is expected. Five points for every hour of class missed will result in a lower attendance grade. Earning points for class activities will require participating in group activities during class time either face to face or online whichever is requested General: Course Expectations: 1. Participation is required

Use the assigned college address as opposed to a personal address 6. Address technical problems immediately 7. Observe course netiquette at all times. 8. When in on ground classes, sit in a seat next to the door instead of your regular seat if leaving early is unavoidable. 10. Coming to class on time is always expected, failure to do so will result in the classroom door being shut and locked preventing the entry into the class. The student will be counted absent and unable to turn in assignments due that day, thus resulting in a loss of quality points. 11. Prevent interrupting the concentration and learning of others. Turn off text messaging devices, phones or other similar devices before entering the classroom. Avoid doing what could potentially hurt feelings, offend, threaten, or damage a good learning experience and good working relationship with others. 13. Share your experiences and opinions generously and allow, as well as, support others to share too. Be willing to give and take constructive feedback. 14.
