The East Greenbush Central School District Board of Education Mission is: "To promote the maximum growth of every child who is served educationally by its programs and services." 2. Instructional Technology Vision Statement The East Greenbush Central School seeks to seamlessly integrate technology into all aspects of communication, collaboration, instruction, and program development in the pursuit of excellence in educational experiences for all students Instructional Technology Goals The District will expose a percent of students to word processing hardware to determine student preference. 20% of all elementary students grades 3-5 and 20% of all secondary students grades 6-12 will be surveyed on their preference for 1:1 device use for assessment purposes. Students will attend a vendor fair, during the third week in September, and have the opportunity to use a laptop, a laptop with an external keyboard and a Chromebook to complete brief exercises using word processing and Internet functions. Each participating student will rate their preference. The results of this survey will drive the District s technology purchasing plan for student use. The District s purchasing plan will completed by September 30, The District will prepare for access to electronic, web based state assessments for grades 3-12 for. All elementary and secondary school buildings will be equipped with technology and Wi-Fi access that will allow for simultaneous participation in all state assessment by September The District purchasing plan will outline planned spending across 3 years of hardware and the supporting infrastructure and will consider adaptive technology needs to ensure equitable access, where possible, for students with disabilities. The Committee met on the following seven dates: October 6, 2014, vember 3, 2014, January 5, 2015, March 2, 2015, April 6, 2015, May 4, 2015, and June 22, 2015 during which technology planning for the revised Technology Plan and Smart Schools Bond Act funding was a standing agenda item for discussion and development. In an effort to solicit feedback by parents and students the District conducted a District wide survey developed by Brightbytes and supported by the rtheast Regional Information Center. The survey was available to students, their parents, teachers and administrators as part of the evaluation process to determine classroom use of technology, access to technology in the home and classroom, skills of students and instructors and effectiveness of current policies, practices, procedures and professional development regarding technology provided to faculty. Responses were received by 268 out of possible 351 teachers and administrators (76%), 2851 out of a possible 2972 students grades 3-12 (96%), and 632 participating parents. The Technology Committee developed a new Technology Plan and District wide goals with the insights gained by the survey and stakeholder participation. The survey results yielded three areas for consideration; the use of technology to improve college and career readiness, enhancing technology knowledge and confidence and improving Anywhere, Anytime Access for learning. The goals were developed using a SMART Goals format by the Technology Committee during a workshop session. SMART Goals are specific, measurable, and targeted. 4. Access Points and Connectivity have not been existing at this point and have caused delivery concerns for BYOD and wireless technology implementation. There has not been sufficient funds to upgrade existing end-user devices over the course of the last four budget years which has impacted the ability to deliver access within the schools to student devices. Lastly, professional development has not been provided because the devices within the district were not current and could not provide direct instructional value. The District needs to increase professional development offerings, work with technology consultants, developers and vendors, and visit other high performing school districts. The faculty requires greater exposure to the types of hardware and software available for use in the classroom to enhance instructional delivery for all students. Increased professional development opportunities are outlined in the goals embedded in the Technology Plan and sessions are scheduled to begin on September 2, These initial sessions will introduce faculty and administrators to state of the art hardware, software and instructional strategies utilizing technology to consider when designing instruction that will improve student outcomes. The vendors selected are developers, producers and distributors of materials that include devices and programs for increased accessibility to content and curriculum. Faculty will also visit other Districts to observe technology used in the classroom for instructional purposes or to analyze student performance data to make programmatic and instructional decisions. Instructional delivery strategies need to be aligned with 21st century learning skills associated with technology to create, evaluate and effectively utilize information, media and technology. The District will work with a consultant during all scheduled construction projects to insure universal Wi-Fi access, appropriate network infrastructure installation and assist with product purchasing. 11. 9 Curriculum and Instruction E. Curriculum and Instruction 1. What are the district's plans to use digital connectivity and technology to improve teaching and learning? The District identified increased access to technology by faculty and students and increased professional development as the two most powerful factors influencing teaching and learning. The Technology Plan responds to the findings of the Brightbytes district wide survey that identified student access to computers as essential for developing the knowledge and skills needed for college and career readiness. College and career readiness are aligned with 21st Century Skills and defined as communication, collaboration, critical thinking and creativity. The District adopted a Bring Your Own Device Policy in December of 2014 and conducted a limited pilot at the high school using BYOD instructional strategies. Teachers used online learning tools such as Edmodo to share information. The District also purchased 330 new teacher work stations for September 2015, will have full online access for all building instructional spaces in the spring of 2016, and will purchase devices for student 1:1 instructional activities and online assessments during the fall of The purchase of student instructional devices will be through. Smart Schools Bond Act Funding Faculty knowledge of instructional technology will be enhanced by increasing professional development opportunities. In an effort to enhance faculty knowledge of instructional technology the District has committed to providing a minimum of two hours annually of targeted professional development regarding instructional technology during Superintendent s Conference Days and building level meetings for all faculty beginning September Professional development hours outside of the District will be publicized and funded through the Curriculum and Instruction and Human Resources Departments beginning September All professional development associated with technology will respond to needs identified in the district wide survey and identified by the Technoloy Committee. A system of ongoing evaluation of professional development needs associated with technology will be accomploished by administering the Brightbytes survey annually to identifiy areas of growth and continued needs. The survey conducted in 2015 identified Communication, Collaboration, Critical Thinking, Creativity and Digital Citizenship as key ares. The survey will continue to require parent and student participation. The District's Professional Development Committee has included annual technology offerings as part of the Board of Education approved plan 2.
