1 Thank you for your interest in the 2008 CGW Animation Scholarship. This is a unique opportunity for you to win a full-ride tuition scholarship to either the Classical Animation or the 3D Animation & Visual Effects program at VFS. Our Animation programs are second-to-ne in terms of depth, hands-on instruction, and industry respect. Our cutting-edge program mimic the animation studio environment, so our graduates are as prepared as possible to begin their careers in this growing and exciting industry. If you are successful in winning this scholarship, you will embark on one intensive year of discovery and finish rewarded and excited to take the next step towards fulfilling your dream in the animation industry. The 2008 CGW Animation Scholarship applies only to the Classical Animation program or the 3D Animation & Visual Effects program at VFS and cant be applied to any other VFS program. 2. This scholarship is only open to residents of Canada, the United States, and Mexico. 3. Applicants who have already been accepted to a VFS program can apply for this scholarship; however, this scholarship must be used singularly and cant be used in combination with any other bursary or scholarship already received. Previous applicants must re-submit their application with a completed scholarship application form. 4. Applicants must be a minimum of 17 years of age. 5. Employees and contractors of Vancouver Film School, scholarship media partners, members of the CGW Animation Scholarship Selection Committee and their spouses or immediate family members are t eligible to apply for this scholarship. 6. Employees and contractors of CGW, HP, scholarship media partners, and their spouses or immediate family members are t eligible to apply for this scholarship. 7. Applications must be complete and submitted in a single sealed envelope, and addressed as follows. Incomplete applications will t be considered. A complete application form. b. A clear copy of government-issued photo ID indicating date-of-birth and legal name. c. Two letters of reference that includes contact information. References should include comments on the scholarship applicant s creative ability, work ethic, ability to take criticism, ability to work in a team environment, and previous accomplishments. d. A resume detailing work history and education. e. Transcripts from any institution attended within the past five years (copies will suffice). f. VFS transcripts showing successful completion of VFS s Foundation Visual Art & Design program. or for 3d animation & visual effects A visual art portfolio of your work that includes life drawings and 3D computer work (maximum 12 pieces). If you do t have 3D work, a combination of other computer work may be acceptable (e.g. Photoshop, Flash, Illustrator, etc.). for classical animation A visual art portfolio of your work that includes still-life drawings, life drawings, and character sketches (maximum 12 pieces). page 1 of 5

2 g. An open letter (500 words words) addressed to the CGW Scholarship Selection Committee explaining why you feel you deserve this scholarship. Outline exactly how you intend on leveraging this scholarship towards your career in the animation industry. Explain why you believe you can be successful in the interactive entertainment industry and how success will unfold for you if you receive the scholarship. h. If English is t your native language, provide proof of English proficiency. Proof can be exhibited through any of the following methods: TOEFL score of 520 (190 Computer Based Test) TOEIC score of 700 IELTS Band 5.5 LPI Level 4 Cambridge Advanced English Transcripts from an English-speaking High School or an accredited English-speaking post-secondary institution 8. Any material supplied with the application will t be returned. 9. Scholarships will be awarded based on the applicant s talent, creativity, discipline and focus and the selection criteria outlined for this scholarship and must meet all admissions requirements. The judging committee will consist of representatives from VFS, CGW, and HP. The decision of the judging committee is final. 10. This scholarship is a full-ride tuition scholarship and covers all costs for tuition and specified program supplies. VFS will award a single scholarship to the VFS Classical Animation program and a single scholarship to the VFS 3D Animation & Visual Effects Program. Although applicants can apply for both scholarships, only one scholarship will be awarded to the successful applicant. The scholarship recipient(s) is responsible for all additional costs necessary to complete the program of study (housing, transportation, food and incidentals). If the winner cant commit to attending VFS for any reason within two weeks of tification, ather scholarship winner will be chosen. 11. Applicants must be able to attend VFS commencing later than June Applications will be accepted until 16:30 PST October 31, Any application that has t arrived at the above ted VFS address will t be eligible. All applications will be reviewed and the winner will be anunced on or before January 6, The winning recipient will be required to maintain a weekly blog that captures and illustrates their experience in attending VFS. All setup and hosting costs will be covered by VFS. 14. VFS reserves the right to cancel this scholarship initiative at any time, in its sole discretion, in the event of any administrative conflict or error. VFS reserves the right to modify the rules of this scholarship in any way or at any time as long as reasonable tice is given.
