His occupation is shown as "engineer." According to George E. Swanson (b d. 2007) Anders Gustaf's children George and Ethel were born there. The house was sold around 1924 and Gust moved to the corner of Swanson and Chambers Streets. He lived with his son George from about 1934 until his death in Born at the croft (torp) Hästhagen in Strängsered parish. In 1865 was living at Tissered Lillgården and, in the same year, moved to Hössna parish. In 1871, lived in Gullered parish, in 1876 in Liared and in in Hössna Federal Census shows him residing at 11 Morton Street, Jamestown, NY. His occupation was metal worker at a metal factory. Record says he immigrated in Children listed (all b. NY), Lillian (age 20), Telmer (age 18), George (age 15) and Ethel (age 12). Also in household was Carl Olson, age 18, born NY, nephew Federal Census shows him residing at #11(no street listed but likely Morton Street), Jamestown, NY. He was age 73, a metal worker. Also listed was Ethel Swanson, who would have been his daughter (record incorrectly lists her as his wife). She was age 23. According to George (b d. 2007) "It is said he never saw a doctor or a dentist, and he grew two small front teeth after he was 90. On the day of his death, probably of pneumonia, he was taken to the home of his 1
2 daughter Ella where he died shortly after entering the house. He always seemed to be in good health. He chewed Mail Pouch tobacco, which might have helped any toothaches. He loved gardening and grew hundreds of pink gladiolas as well as loads of vegetables on Chambers Street. He said his father's name was Sven Johansson, who played the violin." Gust. Swanson became a naturalized US citizen on 25 October 1890 in Jamestown, NY. Records of Lake View Cemetery Association show: Gustaf A. Swanson died at 21 Chadakoin Street, Celoron, his residence at time of death. He died 16 February 1941, age 93 years, 9 months, 24 days, was a widower who was born in Sweden and died of a coronary embolism. His father was Sven Swanson (actually, this record is incorrect, should be Sven Johansson), he was a retired metal worker. The funeral was held 2:30pm on 18 February 1941, E.J. Youngberg, undertaker. His physician was Dt. Wetzen. His obituary says he he was the oldest charter member of Lutheran Immanuel Church and died suddenly at 6pm at the home of huis daughter Mrs. Carl A. Johnson at Celoron. It also says he had been living with his son, George Swanson, on Garfield Road, death occuring during a visit to his daughter. The obituary also says he had been a metal worker at the Art Metal Construction Company. Volume 1 of the records of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Jamestown, list the family of Anders Gustaf Svenson and Mrs. Josefina Svenson as charter members. All of their children except Hilma are listed - who was probably not living with the family and did not become a charter member.
