5 Project overview ANSYS HPC Licensing Selection Tool Develop a Microsoft Excel based tool designed to find the optimal HPC licensing solution in terms of cost and time to perform a parameter study done with ANSYS products. The user could access to speed-up database from ANSYS benchmark or use his own speed-up data. ANSYS HPC Benchmark Wizard Develop an end to end solution in ANSYS Workbench. This add-on enables to run automatic HPC benchmarks for Fluent in order to evaluate the computing performance of a machine. ANSYS HPC Benchmark driven in Microsoft Excel Develop a Microsoft Excel based tool designed to drive automatic HPC benchmarks for Fluent, CFX and ANSYS HPC Parametric Pack. This tool enables to run benchmarks on local or remote machines. Use these algorithms to determine the origin of the cell concentration gradient in the fixed-bed. Numerical modeling of the oxygen mass transfer through a turbulent gas-liquid interface (Falling film) Characterize the interface shape and the oxygen mass transfer through a turbulent gas-liquid falling film. Compare and analyze the results of three approaches: 2D multiphasic simulations using a VOF model in ANSYS Fluent, 2D monophasic simulations using a ALE model in Comsol Multiphysics, 1D model in Mathematica using an analytical approach. Characterization of the gas retention in a bubble column by numerical and experimental methodologies Numerically determine the gas retention in a bubble column using an Eulerian model in ANSYS Fluent. Set up an experimental device to validate the numerical results. Characterization of a flow in a emulsion tank by numerical methodologies Evaluate the dissipated power in a fluid and characterize the mixing time by numerical tracer tracking. Explore the impeller design and propose an impeller dissipating the power in a specific range (defined by a 5/9
6 process constraint). Experimental device to evaluate the permeability of a stacking of macro-carriers Set up an experimental device to evaluate the permeability of a stacking of macro-carriers. Design the device to be used in demonstration for master students during process engineering classes. Study of the polymorphic transition of a pharmaceutical molecules Characterize and model the crystallization process of UCB1 in its two morphs: M1 and M2. The crystallization of UCB1 is done in a mixing double shell tank. At the lab scale, the tank volume is 1L. Some thermocouples in the tank monitor the solvent temperature during the process. The objective of the study is to increase the production of M1 (the morph of pharmaceutical interest) and decrease the production of M2.
