1 Press Release No. 6 / Cologne, December 2010 Turkey, ISM s the first partner country, is opening up the world in ISM Turkey is one of the ten largest contingents at the fair - The Turkish Pavilion will be realized at ISM for the 11 th time - Concept: Toffee Apple - Wide product range marks the Turkish confectionery industry ISM, The International Sweets and Biscuits Fair, is hosting Turkey as its first official partner country and Turkish national participation at the International Sweets and Biscuits Fair (ISM) is being carried into effect under the auspices of the General Secretariat of Istanbul Exporters Associations. ISM Fair, which has been organizing for 41 years and displaying varieties of products such as biscuit, sugar, cocoa products, ice cream, wafers, crackers, chewing gum, candy etc. in a wide range, will expect to host about 1,500 companies from about 70 countries. Suppliers will present a nearly complete overview of all confectionery and snack items on the market. The fair will occupy a gross exhibition space of 110,000 m² in six halls. Turkey is one of the ten largest contingents at the fair. During the last 15 years the number of Turkish Exhibitors at ISM has grown continually. The unique tasted products of leading firms from the Turkish sweets, chocolates and biscuits sector will be exhibited on 42 stands in ISM 2011, which will be held during 30 th January to 2 nd February The Turkish National Participation will be realized for the 11 th times this year by Istanbul Exporters Associations under the concept Toffee Apple. 42 Turkish biscuits, sugar confectionery and chocolate producers will serve up traditional Turkish sweets to the fair visitors. 2 the pleasure of their exhibitors and guests presence at a reception during the fair in Turkish Pavilion at Hall /6 Export volume of Turkey has realized US$ 101,191 million between January and November 2010 due to proximity to international markets, strong infrastructure skills and the great expansion of product range. Confectionery sector is one of the leading sectors in Turkey thanks to the technologic investments in production plants and the emphasis placed innovations on confectionery, cocoa products and biscuits manufacturing. Through the constant developments in the sector, Turkish confectionery export volume has reached US$ million between January and September Iraq, Algeria, Yemen, Germany, Libya, United States of America, Israel, United Kingdom and Albania are the main destinations of Turkey s confectionery and biscuits export. Turkey is amongst the primary fifteen countries which are the largest exporter of sugar confectionery, cocoa products and biscuits in the world. Turkish biscuits industry s production capacity is more than tons per year and capacity utilization rate is about 75%. Turkey s biscuit export figures reached US$ 336 million between January and September The sugar confectionery market in Turkey maintained consistent growth and sector export figures reached US$ 279 million between January and September The Cocoa products sector in Turkey has proved itself to be successful by recording a substantial increase in exports reaching US$ 226 million between January and September Turkey is also one of the most important supplier countries for many ingredients and raw materials, including hazelnuts, almonds, honey and dried fruits, as well as semi finished products. Furthermore, it s qualified and well educated human resources, wide spread investments in technology, proximity to the developing countries, EU accession negotiations process, membership of European Customs Union, large domestic market and young population reflect the potent capacity of Turkey s confectionery sector.

About Istanbul Exporters Associations GENERAL SECRETARIAT OF ISTANBUL EXPORTERS ASSOCIATIONS General Secretariat of Istanbul Exporters Associations (IEA), which began to operate in 1940 with the foundation of Istanbul Cereals Pulses Oil Seeds Exporters Associations, operates under Undersecretariat of the Prime Ministry for Foreign Trade. In addition, the General Secretariat serves to assist, motivate and drive exporters to reach new markets, prepare them future developments and help to increase their sales as well as raising the quality of their products. Some of the tasks and functions of General Secretariat are to make studies and research activities with the aim of harmonizing the production and export potential of Turkey with the requirements of importing countries, to organize courses and seminars, to arrange trade missions in abroad, to make exhibitions, to participate fairs, and to perform other duties given by Undersecretariat of the Prime Ministry for Foreign Trade. Also, General Secretariat transmits the changes of trade flows and informs the exporters about the current developments within the foreign markets. General Secretariat contains wide range of companies dealing with export of commodities such as cereals, pulses, confectioneries, canned food, and seafood products, paper based packaging materials, furniture and so on. One of the main duties of the General Secretariat is to organize the national participation of Turkish companies to the international exhibitions. CIFF 2011 China International Furniture Fair Guangzhou/China, ESE 2011 European Seafood Exposition in Brussels/Belgium, Interpack 2011 in Dusseldorf/Germany and World Food Moscow 2011 in Moscow/Russia are the agenda of General Secretariat within this year.
