2 Turkey Food Sector Turkey s plentiful natural resources create an opportunity for its food processing industry to grow and supply to new export markets. Turkey currently acts as a regional hub for the production, processing and export of foodstuffs to large European and Middle Eastern markets. Its agricultural diversity and amenable climate allow it to produce a sustainable supply chain of raw inputs for its processing industry, facilitating its status as a large net exporter of food and beverages. Turkey has already begun its transition up the value-chain, moving from the export of raw foodstuffs to processed food products. Turkey is a major exporter of dried fruit, tobacco (from the Aegean region) and hazelnuts, of which it is the world s largest supplier, from the Black Sea coast. Turkey s main agricultural imports include cotton, soya beans, vegetable oils, tobacco, maize and rice. Over the next thirty years Turkey s food and beverage market has the potential to continue to expand as it is well positioned to meet rising demand, both domestically and internationally. Growing populations, rising incomes, urbanisation and the increased coverage of organized retail should present particular opportunities in the processed, packaged and frozen food sectors as consumer tastes shift towards convenience products and supermarkets proliferate. Turkey has the opportunity to capitalize from its geographic proximity to Europe, Central Asia and the Middle East to satisfy these export markets. Turkey s Aegean, Black Sea and Anatolian regions are well-suited to the production of organic foods for health-conscious European consumers, which is currently the destination for 85 % of all organic food exports. There may also be a possible opportunity to focus on the Halal market to cater for a rising domestic and foreign Islamic population.

3 About Our Region And Project Exporter Associations are professional organizations, operating in several regions of Turkey since Their mission is to contribute to the economic development of Turkey through improving foreign trade. Moreover, in the frame of increasing exports from the region, Exporters Associations perform various scientific observation and researches, organize business seminars and training activities, and prepare publications and advertisements at abroad, hold fairs and scientific meetings in case of necessity, in addition to other activities for improvement of the exporting sectors. Additionally, the subjects including the Information of the exporter companies through the developments in the foreign trade issues, statistics and reporting studies, organizing mutual exchange committees with various countries are included in the job definitions of the exporters associations. Besides, they provide advanced online service to the members thanks to their strong technological infrastructure. As one of these Associations, DKİB is the last built Exporters Association of Turkey allocated on the Black Sea Region on the north east coast of the Country. The Region, being at the intersection point of three continents, lies as a bridge between east and west. This characteristic offers advantages for transportation and logistics sectors. In addition to these, tourism, agriculture, food, mining, ship construction and fishery sectors are the prominent sectors that offer many investment opportunities. Such regional dynamics make the region an economic attraction center for new investments. Moreover, incentives that are provided by Turkish State ease and accelerate investments. 4 And the central city and main province of the region Trabzon is a city on the Black Sea coast of north-eastern Turkey and is the most important and largest port on the Black Sea coast. Trabzon, located on the historical Silk Road became a melting pot of religions, languages and culture for centuries and a trade gateway to Iran in the east, Russia and the Caucasus to the North and has connections with the ports of other countries with shores on the Black Sea. Trabzon straddles the trade corridor that stretches from the depths of Asia to deep into Europe thanks to its commercial infrastructure, seen as Organized Industrialized zones, Free Trade Zone, World Trade Center, International Airport, Seaport and University. Trabzon has lots of opportunities in commerce. Developing infrastructure combining with young and educated population supported by significant incentives in many sectors provided by Turkish State, Eastern Black Sea Region offers significant opportunities for investors. After all this brief information about regional properties and sectorial features, Eastern Black Sea Region is ready to welcome you all with great pleasure. Under the jurisdiction of the upper organization named as Turkish Exporters Assembly, Exporter Associations are organized Turkey-wide under 13 General Secretariats. The Eastern Black Sea Exporters Association (DKİB) owns the last General Secretariat established in 1998, in Trabzon. Eastern Black Sea Association covers Trabzon, Rize and Artvin provinces of Turkey s Eastern Black Sea Region with in the context of its field of its activity. However, General Secretariat of Eastern Black Sea Exporters Association (DKİB) is a non-governmental institution consisting of over 1600 members in its body. Within the context of its duties and functions DKİB currently carries on a project since 2012, supported by the R.T. Ministry of Economy named as Trabzon Food Cluster Project with 15 food sector representative companies as beneficiaries included in the mentioned project. This time, in Dubai, at Gulfood Dubai 2014 Fair, completely 10 of the whole cluster s member companies are looking for strong future cooperation facilities in the relevant geography and planning to establish strong business connections by this opportunity.
