Broadband Powerline Smart Grids Smart Metering Smart Cities

Putting the smart into Smart Grids 20-20-20 energy targets and environmental objectives signal a complete transformation of our energy supply, with increasing focus on sustainability. Intermittent, renewable energy, storage systems and decentralised load management are growing in importance. Smart metering and dynamic pricing are being required. Along with this comes the demand for greater transparency and information for both energy businesses and their customers. The answer is the Smart Grid, covering everything from energy production to distribution through to consumption, promising new ways to combine security, efficiency and environmental compatibility. The collection and communication of information is central to Smart Grid theory and practice. This requires a communication platform that meets the requirements of availability and cost efficiency, while delivering sustainable performance. Storage Medium Voltage Low Voltage Low Voltage Metering Energy Management Generation and Storage Metering Energy Management Generation and Storage Industry and Trade Smart Grids with BPL technology Households

Broadband Powerline Communications technology (BPL) uses the power grid itself as the channel for information. The result is a highly efficient, economical and future proof solution which can be used to communicate, in real time, with meters, electric vehicles, substations and other devices, as components in an integrated grid. With BPL, utilities and distribution network operators benefit from networking standards tried and tested in the field of telecommunications, gaining all the advantages of IP-based communications technology, available everywhere where energy information is needed. Our BPL has been successfully implemented in power grids supplying more than 1 million consumers in Europe and the Middle East and has won prestigious awards and technology prizes.

Broadband Powerline Communications Making the grid both smart and secure BPL communications effectively close the gaps between central IT systems and devices and applications, using the power grid itself to transmit data to and from utilities, network operators and consumers. With so much information on the move, data security is a priority. BPL uses protocols from the world of telecommunications to access reliable standards in encryption, data security and privacy. Power Plus Communications was one of the first companies to address smart grid security with our secure gateway developments and the first to apply for the stringent German energy data protection regulations (BSI Schutzprofil).

Real time communications: For Smart Metering and Network Automation Broadband data transmission and VPN technology: Enables parallel transfer of data from numerous applications Third Party Independent: Can be used to build and operate a utility-controlled communications platform within the power grid Stable data transfer: Availability is assured through auto-routing and dynamic repeating in meshed networks Plug and Play: Easy to install, low maintenance, remotely controlled (SNMP) devices Data security and privacy: Through use of internet and standard telecommunications protocols Cost-effective: Best cost-benefit ratio of all Smart Grid communications technologies Robust: Broad frequency range with OFDM/TDM and more than 1,000 carriers Energy efficient: Very low power consumption owing to low signal transmission levels No effect on power grid operations: BPL adapts automatically to the different switching and operating conditions of the grid, without influencing its operation Proven: Installed and operated worldwide BPL System Modules Plug in Module Medium Voltage Solution Metering Solution Network Management System Modem casing/shaping Runtime environment home gateway Security Module Interfaces: metering & other applications Your Solution Signal coupling device Power supply The modular concept behind our systems allows the creation of plug-in modules, e.g. for meters and RTUs, and individual solutions designed to meet our customers and partners specific needs.

Experience guaranteeing a risk-free future Power Plus Communications has made many significant advancements in the development of BPL technology and has successfully established the largest BPL network worldwide to date. We have led the development of BPL technology for ten years, and have an outstanding array of experience and competence at our disposal. This is reflected in our extensive portfolio of projects, carried out in close partnership with renowned utilities network operators. Our BPL systems can be found in operation in power networks throughout Europe and the Middle East, supplying more than 1 million consumers. At PPC, we are convinced that the best solutions are developed together with customers and partners. We work in close collaboration with our clients to develop and optimise our technology. This enables us to guarantee a customerdriven, future proof solution. We also use recognised standards and promote their use worldwide.
