Adlib Library Software for the professional management of collections in libraries and information centres Comprehensive, Flexible, User-friendly

Adlib Library Software for efficient library management Adlib Library is a professional software package for managing and sharing information in libraries, resource centres and related organisations. For more than 25 years, Adlib Library has been successfully deployed in businesses, higher education, healthcare, cultural and legal institutions. Adlib Library improves the efficiency of management processes and ensures the accessibility of information wherever it is used. Easy to learn, pleasant to use Extremely clear screen design and intuitive Microsoft Office style toolbar, backed up by context-sensitive help and a spellchecker mean that even a novice Adlib user is soon contributing productive work. Each user can individually select many interface settings to tailor the system to suit their own needs; happy users are efficient users! Cataloguing perfected The Adlib Library system is centred on the catalogue, and here the emphasis is on clear, logical structure. Although very comprehensive in scope, the degree of detail to be entered into each catalogue entry can be determined by each library. The derive record function allows bibliographic records to be downloaded directly into the catalogue from a variety of on-line sources such as COPAC or Library of Congress, while powerful tools for managing terminology ensure that data is consistently recorded. The standard catalogue includes the following functionality: Bibliographic description and imprint; Abstract, classification and keywords; Historical/rare book information; Administrative data; ISBD presentation; Unlimited number of copies per title description; Attach digital media. All publication types Adlib Library is flexible enough to deal with all kinds of publications, including digital and multimedia files. The standard catalogue includes templates for several different types of material including: books, audiovisual materials, journals, loose-leafs and articles. Of course, the layout of these templates is fully flexible and can be edited to suit the needs of the library, including the definition of completely new custom templates if required. Adlib Designer is the tool used for tailoring the system to match the materials you work with, and is delivered as standard with Adlib Library. International Standards In order to make it easy to share and exchange catalogue data, Adlib Library includes support for relevant international standards, such as: SRU, ISBD/ AACR2, Z39.50, MARCXML, OAI-PMH. Search options Adlib Library offers you three effective search tools. The Search wizard is easy to use, and runs on a

selection of indexed fields. The Query by Form can be used to combine search queries and search multiple fields simultaneously. A powerful expert search language makes it possible to query every field of the database. You can compose your own queries and include operators, such as equal to or less than. Logical operators (such as AND and OR ) are also supported. Both queries and their results can be stored for future re-use as pointer files. Scalable Whether your collection is large or small (or growing at an alarming rate), an Adlib Library system is completely scalable and capable of holding millions of records, so you should not worry that you will outgrow it. Safe and secure Adlib Library employs a role-based security system. Pre-determined access rights may be assigned to roles, and roles are assigned to individual users or user-groups. Access to individual records can also be restricted or prevented, even if all the other records in the catalogue are accessible. This provides excellent protection against unauthorized access to data from users on your network or the internet. Multi-lingual All Adlib applications have full multi-lingual capability. This means that as well as being able to select the appropriate language for the user interface, you can also enter and store data in multiple languages. Your data will be searchable in all the languages you enter. Adlib uses UNICODE, which also makes it possible to store and search in non-western languages such as Arabic and Hebrew. Flexible reporting The print wizard makes printing easy and efficient. You can use pre-defined reports and lists, such as the Acquisition list or the ISBD list. Alternatively, you can interactively control the content and appearance of reports in the Print Wizard itself with just a few mouse clicks. This is useful for creating letters, loan agreements as well as simple lists. Effective thesaurus software The Adlib Thesaurus functionality is among the best of its kind: a clear layout, easy to expand and simple to manage. Control of the status of each term, i.e. candidate, preferred/non-preferred is also supported. In addition to an internally managed thesaurus, Adlib can also use externally held thesauri for which a web service is available. Open System Your data is a prime asset, which should never be locked-in to any particular software or system. Adlib Information Systems take care to provide facilities which make it easy for users to access their data in a variety of different ways: for example, an export wizard which can be used to selectively export data in XML, comma separated or other user defined formats (such as MARC XML). Support for the Open Archive Initiative harvesting mechanism (OAI-MHP) used by content aggregators such as Europeana is also available. Naturally, it is also possible to import so that data from a legacy system can be transferred into Adlib. Choices & expansion options Choice of database You can choose either the Microsoft SQL Server Express database, which is ideal for small scale systems, or Microsoft SQL Server Standard or Enterprise platforms for larger systems. Note that

harmonized with your existing web site design. Internet Modules Three options are available as add-ons to the Internet Server software; SDI alerting (Selective Dissemination of Information) makes it possible to deliver custom-made services. Your users can register an interest profile, so that the system can automatically inform them about relevant information and new acquisitions. Online reservations allows web based users to reserve material from their web browser, and the user can also see what books they currently have on-loan. the Adlib API is not available on Microsoft SQL Server Express based systems. API (Application Programming Interface) Adlib s API makes it possible to access your library data from external systems, so you can repurpose your data in many ways. Examples include sharing content with digital asset management systems, web content management systems or Microsoft Office applications via the Adlib Office Connect plug-in. The API is fully documented at api.adlibsoft.com. Note that the API is not available on MS-SQL Server Express based systems. Expansion possibilities To enhance the functions of your library system, you can expand it using our optional software modules. Further information about these modules can be found on our website. Of course, all modules are fully integrated with the catalogue and thesauri, so any data entered is immediately available across the whole system. The main modules are: The Circulation Management module for quick and efficient lending transactions. The Serials module for managing magazine and loose-leaf subscriptions. The Acquisitions module to manage the entire book ordering process. Your collection on the Internet or intranet The Adlib Internet Server streamlines the process of publishing your catalogue on the Internet or a local Intranet. Like all Adlib software, it s fully configurable so you can define which fields from your database can be searched on and/or displayed. The appearance of the web application is defined through style sheets, so the search and results pages can easily be

Versions Adlib Library is available in three versions that offer different combinations of functionality: 1 Adlib Library Standard Comprehensive functionality for library management, delivered with Adlib Designer, which can be used to tailor the application to suit your requirements. This can be carried out by a trained user or by Adlib Information Systems. Cross-domain versions 2 Adlib Library Plus is the fully integrated combination of Adlib Library with either Adlib Museum or Adlib Archive. 3 Adlib XPlus combines Adlib Library, Museum and Archive. Organisations that manage collections which encompass these three professional areas can now do so in a single, sophisticated Adlib application. You can search across collections with a single query, and you can establish hyperlinks between items in different collections. All collections employ the same consistent thesaurus and validation files.
