Investigation of the availability of electronic banking services in Singapore and analysis of consumer attitudes and perceptions of such services (2003) (Supported by a research grant from Nanyang Business School; Project has been completed and the results were presented) This project aims to achieve two distinct, yet related, goals: (1) An investigation of the Internet banking options offered by domestic and qualifying full license foreign banks, as well as financial services offered by other online banking retailers; (2) An analysis of consumer attitudes towards- and their level of acceptance of Internet banking, using the methodology first employed by Rugimbana and Iversen (1994) in studying electronic funds transfer system. Preparation for Placement in Institutions of Higher Education and Exam-Taking Behavior Among Singaporean Pre-University Students. (2003) (Supported by a research grant from Nanyang Business School; Project is completed one paper has been delivered to the Asia Pacific Conference on Education and another paper was presented at the 2005 Meetings of the Academy of Economics and Finance.) The Singapore government has embarked on an effort to develop a more entrepreneurial environment among the Singaporean public and especially among the young and educated. Technopreneurship is the buzzword. The current study aims to assess whether prospective university students translate these genuine efforts by the authorities into another testpreparation exercise. Viability of Interest-Free Insurance Products in Singapore (2002)
(Non-funded project. Project is completed; A research paper based on the findings of the research was presented at the 2003 Meetings of the Eastern Economic Association in New York. An article based on this research has been published in the Applied Financial Economics Letters) Conducted an extensive survey of market participants in Singapore to assess the extent of their familiarity with the concept of Interest-Free Insurance products, and to ascertain the potential success of the Interest-Free Insurance products if fully implemented in Singapore. The results have been presented in various conferences locally and internationally. Interest-Free Banking (non-funded project) (2002) Joint research with the staff of the Central Bank of Iran, with additional support from Central Banks of Malaysia and Singapore, to develop proposals for enhancement of Interest-free Banking and its regulation nation-wide. Several journal articles have been published, partly based on the findings of this research. Monetary and Exchange Rate Policy in developing countries (non-funded project) (2001) Joint Research with the staff of the Monetary and Banking Research Institute (MBRI) to devise and recommend policy issues based on the experience of Singapore. An Article based on the results of the study has been published. A Market Analysis of Buyer Agency (1998) (non-funded project, Completed two papers were published in professional journals based on the results of the study) A Survey of home-buyers was conducted in Springfield, Illinois, USA to analyze the familiarity of the market participants with the subject of Buyer Agency. Recommendations were made, based on the results of the study, on effective marketing campaign by potential buyer Agents to effectively reach likely clients.
