Lyon mobility master plan adopted 1997, revised 2005 11 Rapid Transit Routes were planned and numbered A1 to A11 : - High frequency : 5 to 10 interval. - Guaranteed travel time. A2 A4 A10 A5 A4 A7 A3 A8 A9 - Commercial speed of 20 km/h. - On-board comfort : air-con, real-time information, comfortable chairs, low-floor, smooth run. - Stops comfort : benches, rain protection, quay level with vehicle ticket delivery machines, vidéo surveillance for safety, sound messages, real-time information (EWT, trafic). - Electrical traction

Rapid Transit Routes (RTR) modal choice in Lyons Modal choices for RTR in practice have been varied : - A6 and A11 became tramway lines T1 and T2. - A4 is going to be built as tramway line T4. - A3 and A5 are under construction as trolleybus rapid transit C1, C2 and C3. - A9 enters operations in december as light rail line T3. - A10 is being designed as an extension of the B undeground line.

Modal Choice parameters Corridor : density, length Line aims : commercial speed, % corridor served, average trip length Construction costs, money availability Available street and public space Corridor Activity type and economic accessibility Existing network in contact with corridor Urban regeneration projects Accessibility impaired mobility

Bus realtime information system : VISULYS Stakes and objectives of Visulys : - 1000 buses fitted, - 560 stations and stops fitted with information screens for passengers, - Waiting time updated every 30 seconds.

A few guidelines Lyon tries to keep in mind A new line must be considered as part of a network : - Some routes serve long distance trips with high commercial speed but do not serve entire corridor. - Other routes serve short trips at low speed and serve whole corridor. - Network strength depends on integration of different types. Passenger service qualities are prime : - Modal choice is not a prerequisite, but quality objectives are commercial speed, regularity, punctuality, passenger comfort, safety. Environmental and urban objectives play an important role : - Available street space - Urban regeneration programs in corridor - Local and global pollution objectives.
