Western Wayne School District Curriculum Map Computer Science Grade Level: 8 Marking Period: All Instructional Time: 1hr. 20 minutes every other day for 1 quarter. Days of Instructional Programming Evaluation Instruction (Content/method) 1 2 Student will: 1. Identify and Use additional proofreaders marks (move left, move right, stet.) 2. Format and type a one-page report. 3. Students will complete exercises on pages 257, 263, and 265. 4. Students will create a basic PowerPoint presentation as assigned by the teacher. 5. As time allows, students will complete drill exercises on 1. Model basic word processes and PowerPoint functions via computer projector. informally assessed by observation, one copy of the exercise will be printed, reviewed by teacher, and stored in student portfolio.

3-5 Student will: 1. Students will complete concept test # 1 2. Insert and size graphics. 3. Explore text wrapping options. 4. Move & Copy graphic objects. 5. Resize graphic objects using handles and exact measurement functionality. 6. Students will complete exercises 2, 3, 4, and 5. 7. Students will continue to work on basic PowerPoint presentations. 1. Model basic word processes and PowerPoint functions via computer projector. 2. Monitor the completion of Concept Quiz #1 6-7 Student will: 1. Review graphics. 2. Create Text Boxes. 3. Create Flyers and Letterhead. 4. the students will independently complete warm up exercise on page 288. 5. Students will complete exercises 1, 2, 3a, 3b. pages 289 300. 6. Students will continue to work on basic PowerPoint presentations. 7. As time allows, students will complete drill exercises on detailed in DDC textbook pages 289 300. informally assessed by observation, one copy of the exercise will be printed, reviewed by teacher, and stored in student portfolio. Additionally, the Concept Quiz will provide formal assessment of students understanding of key terms.

8-9 Student will: 1. Apply borders. 2. Apply Shading. 3. Add picture bullets. 4. Students will complete exercises on pages 311 & 313 5. Students will present basic PowerPoint projects to the class. 6. As time allows, students will complete drill exercises on detailed in DDC textbook pages 305 316. 2. Students will be given an overview of MS Publisher 10-12 Student will: 1. Create basic shapes using the auto shapes toolbar. 2. Draw lines and arrows. 3. Size, adjust and rotate shapes and lines. 4. Move and copy shapes and lines. 5. Add or change the color of shapes and lines. 6. Students will complete exercises using the drawing toolbar and the scribble feature. Students will write their names and add drawings and lines. 7. Students will complete exercises on pp 330 & 332 8. Students will create the front page of a newsletter using MS 9. As time allows, students will complete drill exercises on detailed in DDC textbook pages 321 335. informally assessed by observation, and review of student work products. One copy of the exercise will be reviewed by the teacher and stored in the student s portfolio providing summative assessment of student achievement. Clown projects (p332) will be reviewed for entry in the NEIU Middle School Computer Fair.

13 Student will: 1. Grouping drawn shapes to for single objects. 2. Order, nudge, flip or rotate drawing shapes and objects.. 3. Size, adjust and rotate shapes and lines. 4. Add text to shapes. 5. Whole group discussion will be focused on p339. 6. Complete exercises on pp 341, 344, 346, & 348. 7. Students will create a single spreadsheet Excel workbook. detailed in DDC textbook pages 339 348. 2. Teacher will present an introduction to MS Excel and model its functions via computer projector. 14-15 Student will: 1. Create Tables. 2. Enhance tables with Table AutoFormat feature. 3. Complete exercises on pp 351, 354, 357, & 358. 4. Create a chart using the spreadsheet created in class and the Chart Wizard in MS Excel. 5. Students will continue working on the front page of a newsletter using MS 6. As time allows, students will complete drill exercises on detailed in DDC textbook pages 352 359.

16 Student will: 1. Complete a concept quiz. 2. Check table spacing. 3. Insert and Delete table columns and rows. 4. Add borders and shading to tables. 5. Complete exercises on pp 365, 366, & 370. 6. Begin construction of a 3 page web site using MS 7. As time allows, students will complete drill exercises on 1. Teacher will monitor completion of the concept quiz. 2. Teacher will model basic Word processes and detailed in DDC textbook pages 362 369. 3. Teacher will model basic web page construction via computer projector. 17 Student will: 1. Complete a touch type timed exercise to test speed and accuracy using All the Right Type software application. 2. Create WordArt Objects. 3. Format WordArt Objects. 4. Create a letterhead template. 5. Complete exercise on pp 384. 6. Continue construction of a 3 page web site using MS 7. As time allows, students will complete drill exercises on detailed in DDC textbook pages 375 385. Additionally, the Concept Quiz will provide formal assessment of students understanding of key terms. Result of the timed typing exercise will be scored and will provide formal assessment of the student's keyboarding skill.

18 Student will: 1. Format Two Page Reports. 2. Use Headers and Footers to insert page numbers in multi page reports. 3. Use the thesaurus feature. 4. Create a report cover. 5. Students will complete the warm up exercise on page 388 6. Students will complete exercise on pp 392 and 395-397. 7. Continue construction of a 3 page web site using MS detailed in DDC textbook pages 389 402. 19 Student will: 1. Create a personal / business letter using the letter wizard. 2. Type letter text. 3. Copying the letter text to letterhead. 4. Addressing envelopes 5. Students will complete the warm up exercise on page 406 6. Students will complete exercises 1, 2, 3, 4a & 4b pages 407 419. 7. Continue construction of a 3 page web site using MS 1. Model basic Word processes and graphic manipulation via computer projector as detailed in DDC textbook pages 407 419.

20 Student will: 1. Complete a timed touch typing exercise to test speed and accuracy using All the right type software application. 2. Create drop cap letters. 3. Review text wrapping options. 4. Add captions to graphic objects. 5. Create columns in documents. 6. Complete the warm up exercise on page 423 7. Students will complete exercises 1, 2, 3, 4a & 4b pages 424 441. 8. Continue construction of a 3 page web site using MS 9. As time allows, students will complete drill exercises on detailed in DDC textbook pages 424 441 21 22 Student will: 1. Explore basic Website development. 2. Formatting pages and adding styles. 3. Adding pages, hyperlinks and graphics. 4. Creating navigation bars using tables. 5. Continue construction of a 3 page web site using MS 6. Students will complete the warm up exercise on page 445. 7. Students will complete exercises 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, & 8, pages 446 469. detailed in DDC textbook pages 446 469.
