IAS SCHOOL IAS SCHOOL is a Swiss business School that operates at international level and is based on its original model: GLOCAL COMPLIANCE MANAGEMENT SYSTEM (GCMS) IAS REGISTER AG and IAS SCHOOL have been funded by Italian and Swiss managers and professionals, who have been working for more than 25 years in the international Compliance world with important roles in some of the most relevant companies in Italy and Switzerland. Our educational project is based on the simple concepts that to compete in the Global Market it is necessary to know and manage Rules, Laws, Internal and International Standards.
Our project what we want - where we are
Our Goal is to... Support Organizations (public and private, profit and no profit) in Projecting and Building the best local governance system able to face global complexity Through analysis and identification of: 1.International and National context and scenarios 2.Worldwide Champions and Best Practice 3.Internal Organization Design 4.Roles, responsibilities and interactions
What is global complexity Today the complexity of the system is due to different pressures: - market: competitors and customers - people: attitude, expectations, capacities and behaviour - social community: hyper sensitivity to externalities produced - voluntary and mandatory bodies: national and international W. Ashby s law states that only variety can destroy variety : in order to face increasing complexity, every subject should increase his own management complexity.
Organization s needs Organizations are under attack by an interconnected pressure system that is more than the sum of its parts, and must have managers able to: - deeply understand this interconnected system - acquire the right knowledge and capacities - share them with the rest of the team - design and rule internal processes and procedure - lead the organization itself to this new approach - support other processes (eg. procurement, sales etc)
The comparison: old world and new world 1 of 2 Old context Regulatory System low level of complexity Local Laws Simple internal procedures Low number of best practices Few Voluntary Sandards ORGANIZATION Employee s characteristic and motivation Market and customers simplicity predictability stability localized Career Homogeneity Reward
The comparison: old world and new world 2 of 2 New context International ethics International agreements Regulatory System increased level of complexity Increased number of country laws Guide lines and a lot of International Best Practices Increased Voluntary Standards Increased Internal Standards ORGANIZATION Market and Production complexity instability globalized unpredictability Employee s characteristic and motivation diversity project knowledge challenge NEW ENTRY : SOCIAL REPUTATION
Compliance Officer If a system is to be stable the number of states of its control mechanism must be greater than or equal to the number of states in the system being controlled (Ashby s law) For those reasons Organizations will need a new management system and a new role : Compliance management system and Compliance Officer with the same level of complexity that she/he must manage
Compliance - what s new IAS-School aims to go beyond the traditional view of Compliance Old view Compliance has been seen and applied only in the Finance sector (Banks, Insurance etc.) Too much often we see Quality, Environment, Safety etc as separate responsibilities Compliance is almost wherever seen as rules and recommendations and it could be governed without managerial background Our view Compliance must be a management governance tool and discipline for every industry Compliance is the sum of law and rules systems: it must be treated as single body Compliance is a cultural factor: leaders must know compliance, who is in charge of compliance must be a leader
Compliance Officer as entropic manager Ethical code Other rules Globalization Externalities Problem Diversity Competition Compliance (Entropy) Mandatory and Voluntary Countries laws Companies internal procedures and practices Organizations Solution COMPLIANCE OFFICER
Compliance Officer: CAPACITIES and SKILLS 1 of 2 Complexity of system has been translated in complexity and variety of capacities and skills Leadership: to lead people towards compliance design Communication: to explain the compliance philosophy Team working: to cooperate with all the people Decision making: to be the point of reference
Compliance Officer: CAPACITIES and SKILLS 2 of 2 Organization: to design the best & right compliance system Specific Knowledge: to understand the fitting compliance Technical Knowledge: to face other roles within organization System Knowledge : to implement the system Social sensitivity: to understand what the community needs Our Goal is to introduce and develop a new professional profile able to manage the complexity of the compliance world
