TERMOSIGN APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS Product s characteristics Termosign - preformed thermoplastic pavement marking system must be applied to a completely dry surface; must be applied to a surface free of dirt, dust, chemical and oily substances; should not be applied to surfaces with significant irregularities; can be applied to all asphalt surfaces; can also be applied to non-asphalt surfaces, providing it is suitably primed. Benefits: quick and easy application; applicability in areas inaccessible to road marking machines; high resistance to abrasion and wear; applicability on existing thick-layer road markings after the removal of loose elements; good adherence to all surfaces; high reflectivity in all weather conditions; short traffic interruptions during application.

SIMPLIFIED TERMOSIGN APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS CAUTION: Protective clothing must be worn during product application. It is important to keep the wind at your back to avoid the possibility of the burning oneself with the gas torch during unexpected gusts of wind. Do not attempt to touch a recently applied Termosign as it will be hot; the product must be allowed to cool down. 1. Clean the surface to which Termosign is to be applied to thoroughly, marking out the area, where Termosign is going to be applied with chalk or spray paint. Preheat the asphalt. 2. Remove the protective foil from the Termosign and place the Termosign in its intended position. 3. The Termosign material must be heated to its melting temperature to achieve a bond with pavement.

DETAILED TERMOSIGN APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS 1. Clean the pavement surface thoroughly. The surface must be clean of all debris, dust, sand, stones, oily substances, etc. Use compressed air if available; otherwise, a broom may be used. 2. Mark the Termosign s intended position with chalk or spray paint. It is most helpful to mark along the sign s base or longest side. 3. It is crucial to preheat the intended application surface. Preheating the application surface has two goals: removing all extant moisture from the surface and releasing bituminous material. Both are important for the proper adhesion of Termosign to the surface. 4. Remove the protective foil from the Termosign and place the Termosign in its intended position. Ensure that all elements adjoin one another without any gaps. Large gaps may impede the process. 5. If the Termosign consists of multiple layers, the layers should be applied in separate stages. a) first layer b) second layer c) result a) lay the first layer down heat the elements b) lay the second layer down heat the elements

6. The gas torch must be approximately 30 cm from the Termosign during application and should not develop temperatures exceeding 200-230 C. It is advisable to preheat the entire marking, that enables the material to soften and conform well to the surface. Than heat the Termosign evenly to its melting point, ensuring that: bubbles have appeared on its surface which indicates that the Termosign has reached its melting point and will adhere well to the pavement surface. all elements have fused and there are no discernable gaps between them, 7. The application should be completed by re-heating the edges of the sign, so that they will smooth down. It is possible to augment the retro reflectivity and wear resistance Termosign by spreading drop-on glass beads on its surface while it is still hot. After being applied, Termosign cools down in about 15 minutes at an ambient temperature of 20 C. 8. Uneven heating may lead to the development of cracks and to the breakup of the Termosign. Slight overheating may char the surface of the Termosign which will usually wear off over time, Severe overheating, especially of colored elements, may lead to irreversible discoloration. 9. An IZI-PRIME primer glue must be used on non-bituminous and old or worn surfaces. It enables proper bonding to the pavement surface. It should be applied on the intended application area. The application of a Termosign on a primed surface is identical to an unprimed surface (as described above) after the IZI-PRIME has dried (is no longer adhering to the finger when touched). 10. The usage of a primer glue is recommended if a single sign covers more than 1m². The primer glue is applied at a rate of 1l per 4m². The primer glue stops water and moisture from penetrating under the Termosign, and its use is absolutely essential regardless of the size of the Termosign on old bituminous surfaces and on concrete and granite surfaces. Adhesion test When the Termosign has cooled down, cut a small fragment (1cm²) off of the marking. The Termosign can be deemed to have bonded properly to the pavement surface if the fragment has asphalt material stuck to it on its underside. The Termosign must be heated anew otherwise. Never leave the job site without making sure that the Termosign has adhered properly to the pavement surface. Attempts to reheat the Termosign at a later date will not produce a proper bond due to accumulated moisture under the Termosign. Improperly bonded Termosigns can be expected to degrade quickly under the effects of weather and wear. TIPS At high ambient temperatures Termosign may begin to adhere to the pavement surface on its own. Ensure that the Termosign is in its intended position after it has been unpacked. The Termosign s temperature should be reduced with cold water or some other method. A broken Termosign element can be fused back together during application.
