MegaRAID Advanced Software Options Electronic License Activation User s Guide Getting Started User Guide MegaRAID Advanced Software Options Electronic License Activation This guide is for users who need to install and activate the LSI Advanced Software options on MegaRAID controllers using the MegaRAID Advanced Software License Portal. This process assumes that you have already purchased the Advanced Software options through your distributor or reseller and have received a License Authorization Code (LAC). To install and activate the LSI Advanced Software options on your MegaRAID controller using the MegaRAID Advanced Software License Portal, you must have the following MegaRAID firmware version and MegaRAID Storage Manager (MSM) version or later installed on your RAID controller: MegaRAID Firmware version: 12.11.0-0010: For MegaRAID SAS 9260-4i, 9260-8i, 9261-8i, 9280-4i4e, 9280-8e 12.11.0-0011: For MegaRAID SAS 9260-16i, 9280-16i4e, 9280-24i4e MegaRAID Storage Manager version 8.10-02: For all supported controllers listed in Appendix B, Supported MegaRAID Controllers for Advanced Software Licenses. 1.0 Getting Started The LSI Advanced Software licensing process consists of the following procedures: 1. Purchase LSI Advanced Software Option(s) and receive a License Authorization Code letter or License Authorization Code certificate that entitles you to one or more advanced software options. 2. Use the License Activation Portal to activate the LAC and receive a License Activation Key to enable your software. If you are a new user, use Section 3.0, Activating the LAC in the License Activation Portal for New Users. If you are already a registered user, use Section 4.0, Activating the LAC in the License Activation Portal for Registered Users. 3. Enable the software on your MegaRAID controller card by entering the Activation Key in MSM. The following sections describe these procedures in more detail. 2.0 Purchase Order and LAC Letters/Certificates After you purchase an LSI Advanced Software license, you receive your License Authorization Code (LAC) in an email from your distributor or your reseller in a LAC letter. Activating the LAC in the License Activation Portal for New Users MegaRAID Advanced Software Options Electronic License Activation User s Guide A LAC A list of the products ordered The product part numbers Instructions on how to redeem the LAC for an activation key 3.0 Activating the LAC in the License Activation Portal for New Users If you are already a registered user, and need to activate the LAC and create an Activation Confirmation Letter, follow these steps. 1. Go to the LSI Advanced Software License Management Portal at http://softwarelicense.lsi.com. The portal login shown in the following figure appears. Figure 1: Product Activation Login Screen 2. As a new user, enter your LAC in the New users section and click Create Account, as shown in the following figure. A login dialog box appears, as shown in the following figure. Figure 4: Register as New User 4. Under the heading Register as a new user, fill out the fields User Name and Email Address. 5. Click Submit. A new user registration dialog box appears, as shown in the following figure. Figure 5: New User Registration Form 6. Fill out the New User Registration form and click Save. Enter the name of the RAID controller for which the Advanced Software Option(s) will be activated and enabled, and click Save. The Activate LACs on RAID Controller screen appears, as shown in the following figure. Figure 7: Activate LACs on RAID Controller 8. Enter the RAID controller Serial Number and Safe ID, as shown in the following figure, and click Next. See Appendix A, Finding the Serial Number and the Safe ID for Your RAID Controller, for instructions on how to find the controller serial number and the Safe ID. Figure 9: Read and Accept Software License Agreement 9. Read and accept the Software License Agreement, and then click Finish. The LAC activation is now complete. The Activation Confirmation Letter is automatically sent to the registered user. In addition, you can view the letter on the summary page, as shown in the following figure. You can now use the Activation Key to enable software on your RAID controller using MSM. Figure 10: Activation Complete Summary Screen 4.0 Activating the LAC in the License Activation Portal for Registered Users To activate the LAC and create an Activation Confirmation Letter, follow these steps. 1. Go to the LSI Advanced Software License Management Portal at http://softwarelicense.lsi.com. LSI Corporation September 2010 Page 9

Figure 11: Product Activation Login Screen 2. As a registered user, enter your email address and your password in the Returning users section and click Log In, as shown in the following figure. Figure 12: Registered User Login The Product Activation screen displays, as shown in the following figure. 3. On the Product Activation screen, enter the LAC and then click Activate. Find or search for the desired RAID controller in the RAID Controller Name field on the following screen and click Select. Figure 14: Search or Add RAID Controllers When you select a previously registered RAID Controller, the Serial Number and Safe ID on the Activate LACs on RAID Controller screen is automatically populated, as shown in the following figure. Confirm the chosen controller and select Next. The Software License Agreement appears, as shown in the following figure. Figure 16: Read and Accept Software License Agreement 6. Read and accept the software license agreement, and then click Submit. The LAC activation is now complete. The Activation Confirmation Letter is automatically sent to the registered user or you can view it from the summary page, as shown in the following figure. Open MegaRAID Storage Manager. The Dashboard panel on the MSM main menu screen appears, as shown in the following figure. Figure 18: MegaRAID Advanced Software Options Menu 2. Click the Manage Advanced Software Options link from Dashboard under Action Portal. The following screen appears. Figure 19: Manage MegaRAID Advanced Software Options Screen 3. Click Activate. The Method dialog box appears, as shown in the following figure. Use this screen to enter the Activation Key that you received by email and/or saved to file on the License Activation Portal. Perform one of the following steps. a. Enter your activation key manually in the Enter an Activation Key field. b. Upload the.xml file that you saved during activation by using the Select an Activation Key file field. 5. Click Next. This action opens the summary screen shown in the following figure. This screen lists all of the Advanced Software options that are enabled or that will be enabled after these steps are complete. To obtain the Serial Number and the Safe ID required for LAC activation, perform the following steps. 1. Open MegaRAID Storage Manager. The Dashboard panel on the MSM main menu screen appears, as shown in the following figure. Figure 22: MegaRAID Advanced Software Options Menu 2. Perform one of the following steps. a. Select Go to>>controller->manage MegaRAID Advanced Software Options from the menu bar. b. Click the link Manage MegaRAID Advanced Software Options from Dashboard under the Action Portal. MegaRAID Advanced Software Options Electronic License Activation User s Guide Glossary Appendix C Glossary Activation Confirmation Letter Activation Key Entitlement LAC Certificate LAC Letter License Activation Portal License Authorization Code (LAC) License Procurement Portal LSI Advanced Software License Management Portal MegaRAID Advanced Software License Management Portal User Guide MegaRAID Advanced Software Options The letter or email that you use after you complete the product activation process on the Activation Portal. This letter contains the activation key, corresponding software product name, and instructions on how to use the key to enable your advanced software on your MegaRAID controller using MegaRAID Storage Manager (MSM). The advanced software activation code that is presented in the form of a 40-digit alphanumeric string or an XML file. This key is used to activate the applicable software on the MegaRAID controller card using MegaRAID Storage Manager. A commitment of future value made to a customer or partner and delivered in the form of a License Authorization Code (LAC) for a software license. A paper certificate with the license authorization code that is sent by mail by LSI to the customer. This certificate is not ordered through the License Procurement Portal; it is ordered through standard ordering process (PO to LSI for distributors; PO to distributors for System integrators, VARs, etc). This certificate contains a LAC, a list of the products ordered, their part numbers, instructions on how to redeem the LAC for an activation key, and instructions on how to enable the software using MegaRAID Storage Manager. A letter with the license authorization codes that is sent by email by LSI to a customer after they have procured or generated an order for advanced software options on the License Procurement Portal. This letter contains a LAC, a list of the products ordered, their part numbers, instructions on how to redeem the LAC for an activation key, and instructions on how to enable the software using MegaRAID Storage Manager. A part of the License Management Portal where users (Distributors, VARs, Sis, End users) can generate activation keys based on their License Identifier(s), as well as store and manage all key activations. A unique 24-character alphanumeric code that identifies the licenses purchased by the customer. This license authorization code is used to link the purchased advanced software option with the activation key for a given MegARAID controller. A part of the License Management Portal where distributor partners can electronically procure or generate one or more advanced software licenses. An electronic license fulfillment portal and web application that includes license procurement and license activation management functions. A complete user guide with instructions on how to activate license authorization codes, find information like Safe ID and Serial Number, and how to enable software with activation key in MSM. Software options that enhance performance and provide advanced data management and protection for customers employing 6Gb/s MegaRAID SATA+SAS controller cards. LSI Corporation September 2010 Page 23

Glossary MegaRAID Advanced Software Options Electronic License Activation User s Guide Safe ID Serial Number A 40-digit encrypted alphanumeric string that binds the license to a specific controller. This information is required during the license activation process and can be found in MSM under the Manage Advanced Software Options link.
