About This Guide This document contains the information required to install and use the Server Health Wizard, a component of Spotlight Suite. It is intended for network administrators, consultants, analysts, and any other IT professionals using the product. Configuring Server Health using the Server Health Wizard The Server Health Wizard enables you to customize the information gathered by Server Health tests. You can specify which performance counters are collected by the Server Health Tests, and modify the default thresholds for performance counters and disk space information. NOTE: When you make modifications to an analysis test using the Server Health Wizard, you must delete the existing test and recreate the analysis test for the changes to take effect. The Server Health Wizard is installed as a separate utility (ServerHealthWizard.exe) in the Tools folder, when you install Spotlight on Active Directory. To configure the Server Health Wizard 1. Double-click ServerHealthWizard.exe to launch the Server Health Wizard. 2. Click Next. 3. In the Performance Counters screen, click Add. The Add Counters dialog appears. 4. Enter the name of the computer where you want to collect information. 5. Enter the name of the performance object to monitor or select an object from the list. 6. Select the counter you want to add from the list of available counters. 7. Select the number of instances from the list. 8. Click Add, then click Close. The Performance Counters screen of the wizard reappears. 9. Select the performance counter you want to modify in the Counter Name column and click Edit. The Counter Settings dialog appears. 10. Select Apply threshold to counter. 11. Select the threshold expression and threshold value you want to apply. NOTE: In the Scope field, you can select from which domain controllers (DCs) to collect counter information. The options are Windows Server 2008 Only, Windows Server 2008 Optional, Pre-Windows Server 2008, and Any Version of windows server. Information is displayed in the Success and Failure format strings fields in the Format Strings panel and in the Scope and Optional counter message fields in the Counter Properties panel. 12. Click OK. The Performance Counters screen of the wizard reappears. 13. Click Next. 14. In the Disk Counters screen, click Add.

The Available Disk Counters dialog appears. 15. Select the disk counter you want to add and click OK. The Disk Counters screen of the wizard reappears. 16. Select the disk counter you want to modify in the Counter Name column, and click Edit. The Counter Settings dialog appears. 17. Select Apply threshold to counter. 18. Select the threshold expression to apply. 19. Select the threshold value to apply. Information is displayed in the Success and Failure format strings fields in the Format Strings panel. 20. Click OK. The Disk Counters Configuration screen of the wizard reappears. 21. Click Next. 22. In the Network Counter screen, click Add. The Available Network Counters dialog appears. 23. Select the network counter you want to add, and click OK. The Network Counters Configuration screen of the wizard reappears. 24. Select the network counter to modify in the Counter Name column and click Edit. The Counter Settings dialog appears. 25. Select Apply threshold to counter. 26. Select the Threshold expression to apply. 27. Select the Threshold value to apply. Information on the Success and Failure format strings fields is displayed in the Format Strings panel. NOTE: You cannot specify which information is collected in the event log. The defaults for both events and services are preconfigured. 28. Click OK, click Next, then click Finish. 6
