6 1 Installing and Configuring the Foglight for Virtualization, Enterprise Edition Virtual Appliance This section provides instructions for installing and configuring the Foglight for Virtualization, Enterprise Edition Virtual Appliance. Foglight for Virtualization, Enterprise Edition is delivered as a fully-configured virtual appliance which contains two virtual machines and can be installed on a VMware vsphere virtualization platform. Before beginning installation, review the System Requirements section, to ensure that your target system meets the requirements. System Requirements The Foglight for Virtualization, Enterprise Edition virtual appliance is configured as two virtual machines: FVE-FMS is allocated with 22 GB of Memory, four vcpu, and two virtual disks of 10 GB and 70 GB, respectively. FVE-MySQL is allocated with 10 GB of Memory, four vcpu, and three virtual disks of 10 GB, 10 GB, and 250 GB, respectively. These settings must remain unchanged in order for the virtual appliance to work correctly. VMware Software Requirements: vsphere 4.1 or later Installing as a VMware Virtual Appliance Installing the VMware virtual appliance involves downloading the virtual appliance, and then deploying it to your VMware environment using the VMware Deploy OVF Template option. Note This procedure contains instructions for deploying the virtual appliance using the Deploy OVF Template Wizard. 7 Foglight for Virtualization, Enterprise Edition: Virtual Appliance Installation and Setup Guide 7 Chapter 1 Installing and Configuring the Foglight for Virtualization, Enterprise Edition Virtual Appliance To download and deploy the Foglight for Virtualization, Enterprise Edition virtual appliance: 1 Download the Foglight for Virtualization, Enterprise Edition Virtual Appliance. 2 Unzip the compressed (.zip) file to a Windows server or workstation. The zipped file contains the OVF file and two VMDK files. 3 Open the VMware vsphere Client and click File > Deploy OVF Template. The Deploy OVF Template wizard appears. 4 Click Browse to navigate to the location of the extracted OVF file and select it. Click Next. 5 On the OVF Template Details page, verify the Product and Version number. Click Next. 6 On the End User License Agreement page, review the license agreement, click Accept, then click Next. 7 On the Name and Location page, type a name for the virtual appliance, and select a destination folder. Click Next. 8 On the Resource Pool page, select a location within the infrastructure hierarchy. Click Next. 9 On the Storage page, select the datastore in which that the VM will reside. Click Next. 10 On the Disk Format page, select the type of datastore provisioning. Note Click Next. If you do not want to commit to using the maximum 320 GB of disk space at deployment, deploy the appliance with thin provisioning, by selecting Thin provisioned format on the Disk Format page. 11 On the Network Mapping page, map your existing virtual networks to the ones in the deployed template: Internal Network: This is the private network for virtual appliance components to communicate with each other. External Network: This is the public network to collect data from the virtual environment. Note If you have only one network, you can assign the same network to the template networks, but only one vapp copy can run in such environment. Click Next. 12 On the Properties page, select the timezone that you want the appliance to use when displaying data. Click Next. 13 Review the deployment settings and click Finish. 8 Foglight for Virtualization, Enterprise Edition: Virtual Appliance Installation and Setup Guide 8 Chapter 1 Installing and Configuring the Foglight for Virtualization, Enterprise Edition Virtual Appliance Powering On and Initializing the Virtual Appliance After installing the OVF, you must power on, and initialize the virtual machines. Open vcenter, select the Foglight for Virtualization, Enterprise Edition virtual appliance you just installed, and click Power on the vapp. Once the appliance is started, it initializes the operating systems on both virtual machines, and starts Foglight for Virtualization, Enterprise Edition. The appliance is configured to use DHCP, so it automatically obtains the IP address. By default, Pool.ntp.org is used as the Network Time Protocol (NTP) server. Wait until the IP address of Foglight for Virtualization, Enterprise Edition appears in the vcenter Summary tab. In order to stop Foglight for Virtualization, Enterprise Edition, select the Foglight for Virtualization, Enterprise Edition vapp and click Power off vapp. After the IP address appears, it will take several more minutes to start the application server. Once that is completed, you can access Foglight for Virtualization, Enterprise Edition by copying the IP address (either with or without :8080) on a standard Web browser. Next step: Configuring the Virtual Appliance Configuring the Virtual Appliance To begin using Foglight for Virtualization, Enterprise Edition, open a standard Web browser and type the IP address of the Foglight for Virtualization, Enterprise Edition virtual machine. For a list of validated Web browsers, see the System Requirements and Platform Support Guide. The page loads and requests a username and password. The default username is foglight and the default password is foglight. To configure the connection between the virtual appliance and the vcenter, you must create at least one VMware Performance agent, using the Foglight for VMware cartridge automatically installed with Foglight for Virtualization, Enterprise Edition. Next step: If you need to assign a static IP address to the FVE-FMS VM, see Assigning a Static IP Address Assigning a Static IP Address Note The following procedure should be implemented only after the vapp has completed its initialization, after being deployed and started for the first time. Assigning a static IP address requires a restart of the network services on the virtual machine. Restarting the network before the vapp is completely initialized interrupts the connection between the FVE-FMS and FVE- MySQL VMs, and could result in some cartridges not being enabled. The vapp initialization process normally takes about 10 minutes after the vapp is started for the first time. The easiest way to determine that the vapp has completed its initialization is to look at the CPU utilization for the FVE-FMS. The CPU shows some activity during the initialization, but goes down to just a few percent when the initialization is complete. Both FVE-FMS and FVE-MySQL VMs have two NICs - one for communication to the outside and one just for communication to each other. The two NICs that communicate between the VMs have static IPs that should not be changed ( and , respectively). The NICs that need to be changed on both FVE-FMS and FVE-MySQL VMs are the ones that are used to communicate to the outside world (that is, eth0). If DHCP is enabled, you should see IPs in your range assigned to the FVE-FMS and FVE-MySQL VMs. If you have these IPs, just open a Web browser to IPaddress> and log in using the user/password foglight/foglight. If DHCP does not provide IPs for the FVE-FMS and FVE-MySQL VMs, you need to edit the network settings in the OS.

10 Foglight for Virtualization, Enterprise Edition: Virtual Appliance Installation and Setup Guide 10 Chapter 1 Installing and Configuring the Foglight for Virtualization, Enterprise Edition Virtual Appliance To configure networking for a static IP, the following information is needed: IP address Subnet Mask Default Gateway Nameserver(s) To assign a static IP address: 1 Open a console and login with user/password root/password. 2 Use VI to edit the following three files: Tip For a good VI reference, see eth0 network settings: Edit this file /etc/sysconfig/network/ifcfg-eth0, and change the values marked in bold below to those appropriate for your network. BOOTPROTO='static' IPADDR=' ' MTU='1500' NAME='' NETMASK=' ' STARTMODE='auto' USERCONTROL='no' Default gateway settings: Edit this file /etc/sysconfig/network/routes, and change the values marked in bold below to those appropriate for your network. default DNS server settings: Edit this file /etc/resolv.conf, and change the values marked in bold below to those appropriate for your network. nameserver Run the command: service network restart 4 Run the command: ifconfig 5 Verify that the new settings have been instituted. The new static IP address should also appear in the VI Client.
