Benchmarking Dublin & Ireland 22nd-25th April 2007 The Stockholm-Mälar Region International Study Mission to Dublin & Ireland Programme and Participants

Benchmarking Dublin & Ireland 22nd-25th April 2007 International Study Mission The Greater Stockholm Region International Study Mission to Dublin & Ireland 22nd-25th April 2007 has two main objectives; to learn from a competitive metropolitan region in the world economy and to foster better relationships between leading people from business, politics and academia. Benchmarking Dublin & Ireland is the second International Study Mission conducted by the Greater Stockholm Region. The first International Study Mission, Benchmarking Seattle, was conducted in 2005. The 2008 International Study Mission will go to one of the thriving metropolitan regions in Asia. The Greater Stockholm Region Delegation The Delegation from the Greater Stockholm Region is composed of more than 50 leaders from business, politics and academia. Ms Kristina Axén Olin, Mayor of Stockholm and Chairman of the Council for the Stockholm-Mälar Region, is heading the Delegation. From the business sector the Chambers of Commerce and companies such as SKANSKA, Volvo, Swedbank and the Stockholm Arlanda Airport are represented. From the university sector the Karolinska Institute, the Royal Institute of Technology and Uppsala University are represented along with research parks such as STUNS and Kista Science City. Policy-making is represented by Mayors from the larger cities in the region and Chairmen of the Regional Development Councils.

The Celtic Tiger Dublin and Ireland have undergone impressive economic development during the last decades. Unemployment is at an historic low and the economic growth rate, which used to be among the lowest in the EU, today is one of Europe s highest. However, rather than sitting back and enjoying their recent economic progress, the Irish are actively planning the next step: How to become one of Europe s leading knowledgebased economies. What we hope to learn How the impressive leap of becoming a leading economy in Europe was made possible Learn from Ireland s successful international marketing and business friendly climate Learn from Ireland s ambitions to become a leading knowledge economy in Europe Learn about the challenges for the Dublin Region and how Dublin interacts with the rest of Ireland as the economic engine of the country Benchmarking Dublin & Ireland 2007 Benchmarking Dublin & Ireland is organised by the Council for the Stockholm-Mälar Region in cooperation with the Stockholm Business Alliance, the Chambers of Commerce and the Universities in the Greater Stockholm Region. www.benchmarkingregions.se
