CLARKSON SECONDARY SCHOOL Course Code: MDM 4U Prerequisite: Functions, Grade 11, University Preparation, (MCR 3U0) or Functions and Applications, Grade 11, University/College Preparation, (MCF 3M0) Material Required: Course Name: Mathematics of Data Management Grade 12 University Course Description This course broadens students' understanding of mathematics as it relates to managing data. Students will apply methods for organizing and analysing large amounts of information; solve problems involving probability and statistics; and carry out a culminating investigation that integrates statistical concepts and skills. Students will also refine their use of the mathematical processes necessary for success in senior mathematics. Students planning to enter university programs in business, the social sciences, and the humanities will find this course of particular interest. Textbook Replacement Cost: $100.00 Overall Course Expectations A. COUNTING AND PROBABILITY 1. solve problems involving the probability of an event or a combination of events for discrete sample spaces; 2. solve problems involving the application of permutations and combinations to determine the probability of an event. B. They must compile and submit a clear, well-organized, detailed report of their investigation. Students will also be required to present a summary of the investigation to an audience of their peers using presentation software and technology. Furthermore each student is required to critique the mathematical work of others in a constructive manner and likewise to respond to questions and critiques posed by their peers during their own presentation.. Assessment & Evaluation Policy CHEATING: Students are expected to demonstrate HONESTY and integrity and submit assessments that are reflective of their own work. Cheating is defined as completing an assessment in a dishonest way through improper access to the answers. Examples include, but are not limited to; using another student s work as your own, using an unauthorized reference sheet during an assessment, receiving / sending an electronic message to another student with test questions / answers, etc. In order to ensure that all assessments are free from cheating, review school policy with regards to academic honesty submit their own work for evaluation to show evidence of skill and knowledge use only teacher approved materials during an evaluation demonstrate the qualities of good character and good intention (honesty, caring, respectful, responsibility,) when preparing evidence of their learning.
