Location of the Debrecen Airport Debrecen International Airport
Abandoned Russian military airport The Municipality took over the abandoned Russian military airfiled in 1994, and started a large scale development in 2001, as a result of which it became a commercial airport.
International airport In 2004, as the first regional airport in Hungary, it was declared as an international airport with the status of a permanent border crossing and customs route, this way becoming equal to Budapest Ferihegy International Airport on authority level. Since 2008, the airport has been complying with the Schengen criteria. In 2011 the XANGA Group acquired majority shares in Airport Debrecen Ltd, the company having the licence to operate the airport. Debrecen Intenational Airport has an on-site permanent immigration office, customs, police and national security service, enabling aircrafts to land any time of the day and year at the airport.

The handling of 2 arriving and 2 departing airplanes with 180 seats at the same time has become possible.

Current airport capacities At the moment, the existing capacities of the airport are not exploited. Charter flights are operated to top tourist destinations. Scheduled flights to Londin-Luton from June 2012, and to Milan and Eindhoven from Dec 2012.. High quality runway, taxiways and apron (1 additional out-of-use runway suitable for renovation). Apron suitable for handling at least 8 aircrafts with 180 passengers each at the same time. Terminal capacity to handle 4 aircrafts with 180 passengers at the same time. Capacity to handle over 600,000 passengers a year.
