Prof. Gündüz GÖKÇE Interior Architecture Department ggokce@gs.isikun.edu.tr Born in Izmir in 1933. He graduated from Fine Arts Academy (now known as Mimar Sinan University) in 1958 and then continued its master program and also worked during this period as the assistant of Sedat H. Eldem (with the suggestion of Prof. Utarit İzgi). He became an associate professor in 1969 and professor in 1970. Without leaving his position as an academician, he held various administrative positions like the head of department, the dean, the vice president and the rector for 2 terms. He worked as the president of Art Branches Council at U.A.K. (Intercollegiate Council) and a board member at Y.O.K. (Higher Education Institution). Professor Gökçe, who worked at the Faculty of Fine Arts in Yeditepe University and Koc University College of Health, has been working at the Faculty of Fine Arts in Işık University since 1996. Gökçe gave conferences at various culture and art centers and other important educational institutions including Military Academies, Air Force School, Istanbul University, Cukurova University, Uludag University, Karadeniz Technical University, Kadir Has University, Yeditepe University and Bilkent University. As a representative of Ministry of Education, he attended Melina Mercury Project symposium, which was held in Thessaloniki between EU and Greece in 1997. Professor Gündüz Gökçe has articles published in Structure, Academy and Design+Theory journals. Professor Gökçe, who was a member of board of trustees for a period of time, was also honored by Architectural Education Association (MIMED) with the Award for Higher Service in Architectural Education for his contribution to education of architecture in 2006. Besides, he did some architectural projects and applications, but he ended these tasks in 1971 due to his love for teaching. He was awarded in various architecture contests, gained merits and became a jury member at project contests. Having been a sportsman at the same time as one of the former captains of the national water polo team, Professor Gökçe is still an in-house academician at the Faculty of Fine Arts in Işık University and continuing as the head of the Department of Interior Architecture.
