Transition phase: January 1, 2013 December 31, 2014 January 1, 2013, marked the start of the Continuing Education Program s transition phase, which ends December 31, 2014. The program is currently governed by the Emergency Medical Technicians Regulation of the Health Disciplines Act and is moving toward being governed by the Paramedics Profession Regulation under the Health Professions Act, when it will become the Continuing Competency Program. Included in this guide are the specific learning activities available, including credit values for each, during this transition phase. For more information on the transition and on how credits are assigned to activities, please see the Continuing Education Program Handbook. 2013 credit requirements Practitioners are required to earn a minimum of 30 Continuing Education credits for the year beginning January 1, 2013, ending December 31, 2013. 2014 credit requirements Practitioners must earn a total of 120 Continuing Education credits by December 31, 2014. This total includes the minimum 30 credits, earned by completing professionalism content, that were required by the end of 2013. You may obtain as many credits as desired over the time period of January 1, 2013, through December 31, 2014. How to track your credits Your credits will be tracked using our new information management tool, the Navigation Portal. Credits earned by attending the AGM of 2013, the mandatory professionalism module 2013, the sessions at the Con-Ed Summit and the AGM of 2014 have been already entered. Log in to the Navigation Portal today to upload your approved learning activities. More information for current registrants By December 31, 2013, individual practitioners must review the Professionalism Module and complete the online evaluation to earn 30 Continuing Education credits. To maintain membership with the College, currently registered practitioners are required to earn 120 Continuing Education credits before December 31, 2014. Exemption: If your attendance was recorded at Tim Essington s Professionalism Seminar on day two of the 2013 AGM and Conference, you have met your Professionalism learning requirements for 2013 and do not have to complete the online module. More information for new registrants New registrants who apply after October 1, 2013, will see their licenses expire December 31, 2014. These practitioners will not require the 30 Continuing Education credits for 2013; Continuing Education requirements will take effect January 1, 2014. The credits required will be pro-rated (at the discretion of the Continuing Education Committee) based on when a practitioner registers. Credit requirements begin the month after the practitioner first registers and 5 credits are required for every month the practitioner is registered for the remainder of the year. Example: A practitioner registers with the College on March 10, 2014, so his or her credit requirements begin on April 1, 2014. Therefore, the practitioner has to earn 45 credits (9 months x 5 credits) by December 31, 2014. Practitioners must earn a total of 120 Continuing Education credits by December 31, 2014. This total includes the minimum 30 credits, earned by completing professionalism content, required by the end of 2013. Page 1 of 6
