Operations Management Programmes 2011/2012 International Project Management Executive Education Expand your horizon. Make an impact.

International Project Management 01 Gain the new skills you need to manage projects in today s complex and uncertain global business environment In today s turbulent global economy, where organisations are tasked with achieving more goals with fewer financial resources, effective project management is required more than at any other time in history. But what does effective mean? Certainly it is not only a matter of doing things the way they have always been done more quickly, more cheaply. New scenarios, such as geographically dispersed teams working in different time zones, locations and across cultural borders, present tremendous new opportunities while posing uncharted personal, professional and corporate challenges for managers. In order to capitalise on the opportunities and overcome today s new challenges and complexities, the traditional technical skills of project management are no longer sufficient. You need a broader, stronger set of crossfunctional, project-oriented skills to help you to implement principles of risk planning and control, measure the effectiveness of activities across different teams and provide a structure for project management across your business. You also need updated people skills to enable you to bridge language and cultural barriers, motivate and manage people who do not know each other to work together as a team, and create and coordinate new networks of individuals with different outlooks, agendas and objectives. International Project Management is a five-day programme unlike any other in this field. It is unique in focusing on both technical and people skills. It also acknowledges the realities of a complex world where customer requirements, supplier capabilities, technological change and shifting business conditions, simply do not fit the traditional project management models. Above all, the programme offers today s project managers guidance through the constantly evolving global business environment. Key benefits Develop project management skills and understanding of project teams and stakeholders relationships Manage complexity and uncertainty in order to cope with the new global environment Improve team collaboration on corporate initiatives, leading to more projects delivered on time and on budget Faculty Programme Director Kishore Sengupta Associate Professor of Information Systems

Programme content Simulations, hands-on training sessions and role-playing activities ensure that your learning is practical, relevant and able to be implemented the day that you step back into the office. Theory is derived from experience, rather than experience derived from theory. Real-life examples delivered by internationally acclaimed faculty members and the opportunity to share with and learn from your international peers will provide you with unrivalled stimulation and motivation to put what you are learning into practice. And you leave with a complete toolkit, consisting of a set of project-critical questions to use for the benefit of your own professional development and the success of your organisation. The programme covers the following topics: Managing projects: definition, planning and execution Mechanisms for coordination Work structures and design structure matrices Principles and tools of planning and control Coordination in complex projects Monitoring and control Progress and performance measurement Managing uncertainty Risk management Overseeing new and unique projects Impact of complexity and uncertainty Managing project teams Communicating with globally dispersed project teams Understanding cultural barriers Creating high-performance teams in turbulent conditions The logic of fair process. 02 Participant profile This programme is open to executives involved in complex projects and managers of any function, who define the parameters of projects, such as: Launching new products Developing new services Planning new marketing campaigns Implementing a change management programme Creating a new business model or setting up a new business. These participants need not have undergone specialised training or acquired the frameworks for effective project management, but are responsible for implementing projects in an international and organisational context or need to acquire a framework for project leadership and management. Executives with little or no project management background are also welcome to attend in order to understand more clearly what successful project management entails. Managing relationships Stakeholder management The project contract Diagnosing the network Organising projects as a community

The programme, professors and subjects gave me very good insights and plenty of material to think about. The various participants backgrounds helped me to view my own problems in a different light. EProject Manager Business Technology Services Phillips Electronics Singapore One of the most interesting aspects in our INSEAD course was that the games and simulations took us from our desk and created a real case environment. This is quite powerful in terms of testing and training us for problems in real time. President Adviser Petrobras Brazil 03
