Higher Degrees by Research Online Application Process This document is intended to provide guidance to applicants who are applying for a higher degree by research. It is recommended that applicants read through the entire document before attempting to complete an online application. Please select the link to the online application from the RCSI website or copy and paste the link below into your preferred browser: https://sofia.campusit.net/pls/rcsi/f?p=rcsi_oaup Screen 1: Once you have entered the online application system, you will be presented with the screen below. Select 'Postgraduate'. Page 1 of 11
Screen 2: All the Postgraduate courses which have an online application form enabled will be listed on this screen. Click 'Select' for the course for which you wish to apply. Page 2 of 11
Screen 3: Click 'Continue' to progress. When progressing from one screen to the next please use the 'Continue' and 'Back' buttons on the bottom of the screen rather than using the browser buttons. Note: MD applicants only please download the attached 'MD Candidate Declaration' by clicking the disk symbol. Follow all instructions provided on the form. Page 3 of 11
Screen 4: Enter your personal details; all mandatory fields are marked with an asterisk (*). Click 'Continue' when all personal details are entered. Page 4 of 11
Screen 5: Enter your 3rd level education history, all fields are mandatory. If you wish to enter more than one record, click 'Add Another'. When your complete 3rd level education history has been entered, click 'Continue'. Note: At this stage if you wish to 'Save & Exit' your application, an email will be sent to the email address you provided in your personal details, with a link back to your saved details. Screen 6: Please enter details of your previous and/or current employment. If you have employment history for only one employer enter details, click 'Add Another' and click 'Continue'. If you have Employment History for more than one employer enter details, click 'Add Another', then click continue to complete all employer details. Check 'Employment History' section at the bottom of the screen to ensure that all employer details have been saved. Page 6 of 11
Screen 7: Enter details for your referees; note you must enter details of at least 2 referees. If you do not have a fax number for your referees, you can enter a phone number. When you have entered all required details for your referees, click 'Continue'. Note: MD, MCh and MSc applications, once you have submitted your application, an automated email will be sent to your referees requesting a reference on your behalf. Page 7 of 11
Screen 8: Enter details for your proposed supervisor(s); you must have details for at least one supervisor. When completed, click 'Continue'. Page 8 of 11
Screen 9: Enter details of your proposed research. All fields must be completed. In the field 'Details of proposed research project' you must enter a minimum of 1000 characters, eg 1 2 A4 pages. Note: MD applicants must enter a minimum of 2000 characters in this field. When you have completed your proposed research details, click 'Continue'. Page 9 of 11
Screen 10: You must upload a passport sized photograph in the 'Photo' field; click 'Browse' to locate your saved image, and then click 'Upload'. To upload files relevant to your application eg CV or academic transcript s in the 'File' field, click browse, find your file, enter a description of the file eg CV into the 'Description' field and then click Upload. To upload each additional file, follow the step above. You will see your uploaded files, in the 'Documents' section at the bottom of the screen. When you have uploaded your photo and documents, click 'Continue'. Page 10 of 11
Screen 11: This is a summary screen of the details you entered for your application, scroll through the details and check that they are correct. When satisfied that your details are correct, click the tick box in the 'Summary' section at the top of the page. To submit your application click 'Finish', bottom right hand corner of this screen) You will then receive an email to confirm that your application has been submitted. Page 11 of 11
