Kapanga The Media over IP Softphone Quick Start Manual April 2005

Quick Start Manual This manual briefly describes the interface, menus and settings available to a Kapanga user. While this document assumes a certain level of familiarity with Voice over IP networks and systems, we encourage you to visit our Support Forum for further How-Tos, information, and tips. The forum is located at http://www.kapanga.net/ip/community/index.php Kapanga is a softphone capable of voice, fax and video telephony over an IP network. Its simple yet powerful interface allows users to customize various settings for each communication mode. Most of the settings in Kapanga have been already created for you, so unless you are an expert in IP telephony please be careful when changing a variable. This manual has the following information: - Description and uses - User interface components - Placing and receiving calls; other functions - Tool Menu - General settings - Call control settings - Codec settings - Fax settings We thank you for your interest and hope that, with Kapanga, you can make your dreams of IP telephony come true! Sincerely, The Kapanga Team

What is Kapanga? Kapanga is a powerful and unique Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) software phone capable of voice, fax and video over IP communications. As a SIP phone, Kapanga can be used on Voice over IP networks to interact with traditional Public Switching Telecommunication Networks (PSTNs) and future IP-based telecommunication devices. In addition, Kapanga offers several unmatched features such Voice and video over IP recording, fax auto-answering, real-time Quality of Service monitoring (MOS) and much more. So what can I do with Kapanga? Call and receive Voice and Video over IP calls. Make Kapanga-to- Kapanga or Kapanga-to-phone calls*. Kapanga can be great resource for any organization with IP-based PBX voice and videoconferencing. Send and receive faxes, right from your laptop or PC. In addition to placing calls or establishing videoconferencing, Kapanga enables you to send and receive faxes. When in auto-answer mode, Kapanga can also receive faxes automatically in the same way a standard fax machine does. Record calls in MP3 and video conferences in MPEG format. Keep track of important calls or videoconferences without the need of expensive equipment that is difficult to install. Measure VoIP Quality of Service in real-time. Kapanga calculates the Mean Opinion Score (MOS) parameter in real-time. MOS is a very useful measure of quality of service that goes beyond having just hearing "noise" or "chopping". Service providers find MOS field measurements of great value to enhance customer service and increase network reliability. * Subscription to an VoIP telephony provider required
