Is your network ready for the current and future challenges? Complex application delivery chain: End-user experience of applications can be reliant on a number of loosely coupled components, for example, content delivery networks, different ISPs and 3rd party providers. Gone are days when a web page is hosted from 1 server, the average web page has over 11 different hosts, made up of content that is hosted by a complex network of 3rd party providers Changing application mix: There is a rapid growth of internet traffic. Based upon analysis of 40 large multi-nationals it can be seen that on average 50% of http traffic being carried on a IPVPN is non-business related; and http typically averages 30% of traffic, sometimes over 40%. A study found that the median annualised cost of cyber crime for 50 organisations is $5.9 million per year per company (range $1.5 - $36 million), 56% up from the previous year. We deployed connect applications and reduced their download times from 30 secs to less than 5 secs, and reduced their Sharepoint data over their WAN by 85%.

Roadmap to improve maturity With the BT expert, customers will be asked to provide their now state and planned future state against model answers created for each of the questions listed above. The now is the level that best corresponds to your current status and the planned is the level that best corresponds to where you intend to be in the next 24 months. Maturity definition example: Performance Level 1 Reactive At Level 1, you have limited monitoring of network and application performance and network design is reactive to customer affecting events. Level 2 Aware At Level 2, you can monitor and see trends about network and application performance and outcomes. But the information can be silo d and difficult for non-ict specialists to access and interpret. Level 3 Effective At Level 3, you can monitor performance well with a clear link to business outcomes. There is an effective use of optimisation technologies and application aware network monitoring. Level 4 Integrated At Level 4, business leaders can use a dashboard to proactively resolve issues before they are business affecting. Integrated use of end user experience monitoring enables rapid fault domain isolation and proactive alarming. Mature use of dynamic path selection can manage hybrid networks. Level 5 Predictive At Level 5, ICT can automatically detect and resolve issues. Resources can be dynamically flexed based on policy and performance extends to include web and cloud based services.
