We explore the purpose of coaching in organisations and research on the leadership skills and behaviours that will drive future performance. Coaching in the system This program gives an overview of key coaching models and approaches. At the same time, effective coaching is not about using off the shelf coaching techniques. Coaching in the system teaches how to map out the factors influencing the individual including their role, background, organisation and relationship with coaching and those they work with. This module also covers the role of the system and the complexity in shaping leader behaviour and how this can be managed. Day TWO Coaching to influence and lead change Effective influencing and change management are critical success factors for HR and business leaders alike. This module presents a structured approach for leaders to assess their current relationships and how they can get more traction with key stakeholders to achieve their objectives. Participants review the process of change at the individual, team and organisational level with reference to key models and the latest thinking in neuroscience and neuroplasticity. Half Day Closing Session Program Review & Coaching Assessment Self assessment & assessed coaching session
Day THREE Coaching leaders for resilience This module provides a framework for understanding the causes of stress and anxiety at work and how this impacts performance. Participants first seek to understand their own stress responses and their impact and then how they can coach others in this area. We look at how leaders can build resilience, manage their energy and apply techniques in mindfulness and positive psychology. Day FOUR Influences from the past Participants learn how their personal history has shaped their management and leadership style. Becoming more self-aware of unconscious roles and automatic responses that are linked to the past can help us to let go of unhelpful reactions and choose to lead and respond in a new way. Managing our emotions This module includes practical strategies, techniques and tools to assist leaders to manage their emotional and behavioural responses. This draws on the discipline of cognitive behavioural therapy which focuses on how people think and behave and how this impacts what they pay attention to and how they interpret their environment. Cognitive behavioural strategies and techniques can assist leaders to increase self-awareness and their capacity to manage themselves and respond differently. Day FIVE Coaching leaders on values and purpose These days employees ask themselves questions such as does this company provide the right value proposition?, are my values aligned with the company? and what will give me satisfaction in my role and career? The alignment of values, beliefs and action is critical for optimum performance as a leader. This module focuses on the sources of meaning and purpose at work to support leaders to drive their own engagement. The coaching relationship Understanding the relationship between the role of the coach, coachee and organisation is fundamental to successful coaching outcomes. Participants learn an approach to using their own emotional responses as a source of data and evaluating the outcomes. This forms a methodology for self-reflection and continued learning and growth at work. QUALIFICATIONS & TRAINING: John graduated with a BSc (Hons) in Management Sciences and is accredited in a range of assessment tools, with the ability to draw upon and apply a range of coaching methodologies. PROFESSIONAL APPOINTMENTS & MEMBERSHIPS: John has extensive experience with Boards as an executive, coach, Board member and Chairman. He has also been a trustee of various superannuation funds. PERSONAL INTERESTS: Travel, reading, outdoor recreational activities, sport and family. WORKING WITH JOHN DRABBLE: My objective is to be the best leader I can possibly be and to have a chance of achieving that I need a great coach. John has great experience at a senior leadership level. This knowledge for me was important, because that is something I can relate to and it makes him someone whose opinion is valuable. The one common thing about all our sessions is the way they end; with me having a skip in my step, whilst feeling mentally drained from the intellectual and emotional exertion. For me the scariest trait John has is his ability to identify a weakness that you are trying to hide or gloss over. Like peeling an onion, his questioning has the effect of making me confront myself in ways that I have never confronted myself before, and he never lets me get away with a superficial reply. I think that s the thing about striving to be the best you can be, the only way you can achieve it is to have someone force you to do what at times you think is impossible for yourself. There are times when I feel I am being pushed to the limit, but as I continue to learn it is only me who puts any limits on myself. Sometimes I just need John to help me see that is what I am doing to myself.
