Project LEAP (Language, Equity & Academic Performance) Graduate Certificate in Teaching English a Second Language Grades K-6 Application Packet 2013-2014

Project LEAP is a grant that was awarded to UAA, ASD, MSBSD, and JSD in order to create a Graduate Certificate in ESL so that in-service teachers in these districts could gain skills and approaches in facilitating academic success for English learners in our classrooms. Participants will get a tuition-subsidized training that leads up to a Graduate Certificate and an ESL Endorsement on their Alaska Teacher Certificate. The Graduate Certificate in ESL program is threeconsecutive semesters including 18 credit hours with an emphasis on science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics (STEAM) in the ELL classroom. ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS There are two admission processes. Each requires a separate application. 1. Admission to Project LEAP, College of Education: (Do this first. Due Date: October 1, 2013) Provide the following for a complete application packet: Page 3 of this packet, completed and signed; Three letters of recommendation; Official Transcripts (please note that you will need two sets of official transcripts, one for LEAP, and one for the Graduate College); A 300-500 word goal statement addressing your career goals, how the program relates to these goals, and related professional experience (highlight your work with ELLs); A resume (clearly documenting education and/or leadership experience, OR documenting successful completion of a teacher education program from a regionally accredited university.) Admission to the UAA Graduate Certificate, Language Education DEADLINE: November 1, 2013 Enroll online by accessing the Enrollment Services Admissions login: https://uaonline.alaska.edu/. Once you are logged in, select the campus (UAA Main), then select Bachelor-Prior College for the application type. Under planned course of study, select Graduate Certificate, Language Education. You must also submit your official transcripts to the Office of Admissions at the University Center by the appropriate deadline date: November 1 st, 2013 (for Spring Semester 2014)
