Kaiser Permanente Oregon/Washington -- American Heart Association Training To register for Life Support for Health Care Providers (BLS for HCP) or Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) with Cascade Training Center, you will be required to enter a coupon code. This coupon code authorizes Cascade to charge NW Permanente for class attendance so that you can attend free of charge. 1. IF you are required to maintain certification in BLS for HCP, ACLS, or PALS by your job description, you are authorized to use the coupon code below when registering for your class with Cascade Training Center. 2. IF you are NOT required to maintain certification as part of your job, do not use this coupon code. You can register and pay for the class on-line using your credit card. Using the coupon code will result in NW Permanente being charged for the class. NW Permanente is not responsible for paying for classes that are not required per job description and inappropriate use of the coupon code may result in corrective action. 3. Please do not share the coupon code with others. This code is tied directly to your role and cost center. 4. NOTE: Due to changes in American Heart Association rules, completion of ACLS or PALS does not automatically include certification in BLS. To obtain BLS certification concurrently, you can add the option of taking an on-line BLS class when you register on line with Cascade for your ACLS classes then have your CPR skills validated during the ACLS class. When registering for ACLS, select the add course materials and select the BLS Online Part 1 w/ Skills Verification option. You will be sent a user key (log on ID) to the AHA training via email the next business day. You will be required to take proof of successful completion of the on-line class to your ACLS or PALS class in order to be validated and certified in BLS. Clinicians required to maintain BLS or ACLS as part of their job description to use coupon code: Kaiser2014NWP

As of November 1, 2014, there were several changes to the Life Support training programs for Kaiser Permanente Northwest staff, clinicians, and dentists. Cascade Healthcare Services is now our primary training center. This change was made to increase access to classes, ensure up-to-date record keeping of course completion, decrease costs-associated with training, create ease of registration and billing processes, and to improve overall satisfaction with the Life Support training programs including: BLS for Healthcare providers (BLS for HCP) Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) Adult Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) FOR NON-HEALTHCARE PROVIDERS ONLY: CPR with AED training for non-healthcare providers (AHA Heartsaver CPR and AED) 1. Q: Where are the classes and how do I register? A: Classes will be offered in a variety of locations both on and off KP campuses. For the location and times most convenient for you, check the registration site at www.chealthcare.com/kaiserorwa. Additional classes may be arranged for groups of 8 or more at your clinical site at the KP discounted rate. After registering online, you will receive an email confirmation of class enrollment with class location, date, and time. Please see question 3 before registering. 2. Q: When do these changes occur? A: You can begin registering for classes with Cascade Healthcare beginning November 1, 2014. 3. Q: How much does Cascade Healthcare charge and do I have to pay for it? A: For clinicians: If Life support certification (BLS, ACLS, or PALS) is a requirement of your job per job description, you will be provided a coupon code from your department s manager upon request. Clinicians can also find the coupon code on the NW Permanente web-page and the knowledge portal. You will need to use this coupon code when you enroll in the class in order avoid out of pocket payment and to receive the Kaiser Permanente contracted rate. For employees who have access to HealthStream, please search for the desired class on HealthStream by using the words CPR, BLS, ACLS, or PALS. Here you will find a registration job aid and a coupon code for your department and free enrollment. For non-clinician employees who do NOT have access to HealthStream, if you are required to maintain certification for your job description please ask your manager for your coupon code. Each person has limited use of the coupon code for a given class. If you no-show or arrive late and have to reschedule, you may be expected to pay for the class if KP has already paid for your seat that year using the coupon code. Per the table below, the fees reflect the KP discount for those who are required to maintain certification. IMPORTANT: If you are not required by your job description to maintain life support certification, check with your manager before enrolling to see whether you will be reimbursed or will need to pay out of pocket. DO NOT use the KP coupon code unless your manager has approved payment for class. This may be an unauthorized use of KP assets and could result in corrective action.

Kaiser Permanente may only reimburse you according to the numbers provided above. 4. Q: I m already registered for a class with Education For Life after November 1, what do I do? A: If you are already registered for a class with another vendor, you have two options: 1. Take the class as scheduled. If the class is with EFL, they will honor our contract for anyone who REGISTERS prior to November 1st even if the actual class is after that date. You will not have to pay up front for the class. They will not register Kaiser Employees as pre-paid participants through a Kaiser contract after November 1st and will charge full price (not charge the KP Discounted contract rate). See question 9 for more information about payment out of pocket with a non-contracted vendor. 2. Schedule a class with Cascade at your convenience and cancel the other previously scheduled class. Please be sure to cancel your class far enough in advance so as to avoid late cancellation fees. For Education for Life, if you decide to cancel, you will need to cancel at least 72 hours before the class. 5. Q: I need to get into a class right away. How close to the class date can I register? A: You can register for any class that is up on the website and has an open seat until midnight the night before the class. There are no late enrollment fees. However, please be aware that some classes may fill up so proactive planning is strongly encouraged. Consider scheduling your class when you receive the initial notice from the Licensing, Certification, Registration (LCR) coordinator. 6. Q: Does Cascade Healthcare have a cancellation or no-show policy? A: If you are scheduled for a class and cannot attend, please contact Cascade as soon as possible to cancel the class so that they can fill your seat. Cancellations received less than 48 hours prior to class or failure to come to a scheduled class may result in KP being charged for the class. Unless the cancellation is due to operational reasons, this may be considered a misuse of KP funds. This may result in a discovery and corrective action. Even if you are forced to miss a class for operational reasons you are still required to call and cancel.
7. Q: Does Cascade Healthcare have a late-arrival policy? A: Students who arrive to the class late may be asked to reschedule at the Course Director s discretion dependent upon how much content has been missed. Similarly, if someone leaves the classroom outside of a scheduled break and misses key content, they may be asked to reschedule. Rescheduling could result in KP being charged twice for a class. This may result in a discovery and corrective action. 8. Q: Do I need to bring an American Heart Association BLS book to the class? A: Yes. The American Heart Association requires that each student bring the current manual with them to any renewal or full course. Due to AHA guidelines, life support instructors may ask you to reschedule if you arrive to class without the required text. To obtain a book, you have 2 options: 1. Purchase a book at the Cascade training center or pre-order a book when you register for class. If you purchase a book through Cascade this will be your own personal book and will require the use of your personal credit or debit card. The cost will NOT be reimbursed. 2. Borrow a book from the KPNW Regional Libraries free of charge. *You must have a current profile in the KPLibraries lending database. If you already have a library profile, contact or drop by your most convenient local KP Library at either KSMC or KWMC and place your request. You can pick up the texts or they can be inner-office mailed to your work location if you do not work at the KSMC or KWMC campuses. Please allow for interoffice mail delivery time. *If you have never checked out a book from the NW Regional Libraries you need to complete a Library Registration Form. Send it to the NW Regional Libraries at nw.med.library@kp.org OR fax it to 503-571-4291 / tie-line 31-4291. Additional Questions regarding books: Call 503-571-4293 or 31-4293. The KPNW Regional Libraries has the following provider &/or student manuals available for professional certification courses. A: Type Library Registration Form into the search box on the internal home page. You can also find a link to the form on the KPNW Regional Library home page under Quick Links or use the link below. Library Registration Form 10. Q: Can I continue to take Life Support classes from other vendors or independent instructors? A: Yes. Classes will continue to be available to Kaiser Permanente employees through a variety of training centers and independent instructors. When selecting a life support class, be sure that you select a training center or independent instructor which is accredited through the American Heart Association. If you enroll with a training center other than Cascade Healthcare Services, you may need to pay up front for classes and submit for reimbursement to your manager through OneLink, and you may only be reimbursed at the rate charged by Cascade which may be less than what other training centers or independent instructors charge. You should also be aware that if you select a vendor or instructor that is not contracted with KP, KP will have no power to negotiate on your behalf should your experience be unsatisfactory.
11. Q: Will I automatically get my BLS certification when I am certifying for ACLS or PALS? A: No. American Heart Association guidelines have changed. Certification in ACLS or PALS does not automatically grant you certification for BLS. However, you can complete an online BLS class and online test and be validated at the end of your PALS or ACLS class for BLS certification. You cannot test for BLS if you have not completed the on-line requirements or attended an instructor led class for BLS. To register for the online class, see the next question. 12. Q: How do I take the on-line BLS class to certify in BLS during my ACLS or PALS class? A: You can add the option of taking the on-line BLS class when you register on line with Cascade for your ACLS or PALS classes. When registering for ACLS or PALS, select the add course materials as shown in step 4 of the job-aide below. If you are clinical staff who has access to HealthStream: select the "BLS Online Part 1 Key - Healthstream"option. Cascade will notify the Kaiser HealthStream administrator who will then assign the BLS class to you in HealthStream. You will receive a notification of class assignment via Lotus Notes within 3 business days (Monday through Friday). If you are a clinician, dentist, work in the dental department, or do not otherwise have access to HealthStream, when registering for ACLS or PALS select the BLS Online Part 1 w/ Skills Verification option. Cascade will email you the AHA Key or passcode and log-in information for the on line class the next business day.
13. Q: Why can t I enroll in the AHA BLS for Healthcare Provider module in HealthStream on my own or select the direct option? A: KPNW must purchase seats for the online module. Each time an employee accesses the AHA BLS for Healthcare Provider module on HealthStream, KPNW incurs an expense. Therefore, open enrollment will not be an option. However, HealthStream seats are less expensive if bought in bulk. Therefore, we can save money by going through HealthStream whenever possible. We will assign you to the class once we verity that BLS is required for your job. 14. Q: Will I be able to receive my BLS, ACLS, or PALS card at the end of the class? A: Yes. Upon successful completion of the class, you will be given your card. 15. Q: If I have lost my BLS card who should I contact? A: If you have lost your BLS card, you should contact the location who provided the training. Note: Most training centers charge a fee to issue new cards. 16. Q: Should I make a copy of my renewed card and send it to someone? A: Yes. You should make a copy of your card and submit it to your manager. Signed copies of cards should be faxed to the Licensing, Certification, and Registration (LCR) Program Specialist as listed below: Non-Credentialed Staff and Providers FAX Number Service Area PSV Specialist Location 1-877-899-5581 Dental and East Service Area Judi.K.Ferland@kp.org QRM, KPB-5 1-877-899-5587 Continuing Care Services Megan.Weakley@kp.org QRM, KPB-5 1-877-899-5584 Clinical Q&A and Washington Service Area Pam.A.Bonfiglio@kp.org QRM, KPB-5 1-877-899-5587 KSMC, Sunnybrook and Interstate ASC Megan.Weakley@kp.org QRM, KPB-5 1-877-899-5591 KWMC and Skyline ASC Megan.Weakley@kp.org QRM, KPB-5 1-877-614-7071 West Service Area, Westside Medical Office and Salem Service Area Jennifer.L.Harp@kp.org QRM, KPB-5 Credentialed Providers FAX Number Service Area PSV Specialist Location 1-877-821-5101 All Service Areas Molly.B.Phillips@kp.org QRM, KPB-5 For additional questions regarding life support classes, please contact: Laura C.
