SMHEC Dr. Ted Haynie (tahaynie@towson.edu) is Advisor for ILPD programs held at the Southern Maryland Higher Education Center (SMHEC).. HEAT Dr. Brenda Conley (bconley@towson.edu) is Advisor for ILPD programs held at the Higher Education and Technology (HEAT) center in Aberdeen. BCPS Cohorts Dr. Ron Thomas (rathomas@towson.edu) is Advisor for all BCPS cohorts. IMPORTANT CHANGES FOR STUDENTS TAKING THE ADMINISTRATOR I, 18-CREDIT PROGRAM -- Effective January 1, 2011. Beginning in Spring 2012, students completing the 18-credit (6 courses) Administrator I Certificate Program should apply directly to the Department of Instructional & Professional Development to have their transcripts reviewed during their final semester. Do not apply for graduation through the online application on the Graduate Studies website! Please send an email message to Ms. Rene Hunter at rhunter@towson.edu to request that you be reviewed for completion of the Administrator I Certificate Program. Upon satisfactory completion all of requirements, including the Departmental Comprehensive Exam, the university will provide the Maryland Approved Program stamp on your transcript. Students earning a full degree (MS or CAS) must apply for Graduation, however. See Page 2 for details.
Policy Reminders & Program Requirements Required Orientation Meeting New candidates, and those planning internships are to attend an orientation meeting to review policies and procedures, discuss internship requirements, portfolio development and documentation, and to meet advisors. The next Orientation meeting will be held in August 2012. More information will be forthcoming. Required Comprehensive Exam The next Departmental Comprehensive Exam will be given April 12-16, 2012. All students (both for the master s and the Administrator I certificate) MUST pass the exam in order to complete the program. Students may not take ILPD 797, Internship in Educational, unless they pass the exam. Master s students should take the exam when they have completed 30 credits (10 courses), and Administrator I students should take the exam after taking 4-5 courses prior to the Internship. IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO REGISTER FOR THE APRIL EXAM, PLEASE SEND AN EMAIL TO Dr. Diane Wood, dwood@towson.edu by April 6. The exam is done completely online through Blackboard and there is no charge for the exam. Future Exams: June 7-11, 2012 Internship Policies A grade of I or Incomplete for the internship is no longer acceptable as automatic carry-over to the following semester. ALL internships will be billed directly to the student for the full cost of the course upon individual enrollment. Upon completion of the internship, students will then be able to submit transcripts for reimbursement to the employing school system. Furthermore, those who enroll in the fall internship, but do not complete the internship by January 21, will be required to enroll for one continuing credit for the following semester. No grade for any aspect of the internship in this first year will be recorded until all internship requirements are met. Students unable to complete the internship after the two semesters (or one year) will be required to enroll anew for the entire internship and take this as a new course. clearances and reporting earned degrees are firmly fixed and are published. Faculty and candidates are required to operate within this established timeframe. Grades for courses cannot be recorded and posted individually for those enrolled in a course. Instructors are required to enter all grades for those in the course (including the internship) at the same time. Those who have not completed the course when grades are Master s degree candidates (36 credits) are to indicate the degree as the Master of Science (MS in Human Resource Development/Education Track). CAS degree candidates (30 credits) are to indicate the degree as the Certificate of Advanced Studies (CAS in Organizational Change). The Online Application for Graduation is available through the link to the Graduate School. Change in Policy Regarding Graduation and Administrator I Students Due to the alignment of policies for graduation of both undergraduate and graduate students, only students receiving a full degree will be allowed to attend Commencement Exercises (January and May Graduation). Unfortunately, this means that if you are receiving only the 18-credit Administrator I certificate (not the full, 30-credit CAS in Organizational Change), you will not be allowed to walk at graduation. Students completing the MS in Human Resources Development/Educational degree or the CAS in Organizational Change advanced degree will be eligible to walk. As in the past, participation in Commencement Exercises is a personal choice and completely voluntary. 2 Registration for Graduation ALL degree requirements must be completed on or before the scheduled date for graduation. Courses and requirements not completed will necessitate conferring the degree in a future semester. University dates and timeliness for application for graduation, graduation
