Can you afford to risk your data? Benefits of Data Centre, server and Comms Room cleaning IT industry research has concluded that up to 70% of computer related breakdowns are caused by dust and other debris. The environment is the source of this dust. Cleaning is the most cost effective way of removing it from YOUR environment. (Source IBM Today) Particulate (Dust) is referred to as the Undetected Disaster and the sources of this dust can be numerous. The type of dust present can have differing effects, For example: Carbon can cause electrical shorts as it is conductive and therefore can be particularly troublesome in Server/Computer Rooms. Construction dust, from refurbishment and building works within the room or in close vicinity will get into the equipment and cause problems as it is very fine and often abrasive. Organic particulate, from people and the environment, also finds its way into computer rooms. This dust is the main cause of air ingress being restricted and causing equipment to overheat. As Stated this dust is transported into your critical environment from many sources, to completely stop this would be expensive and may even be impossible. DRS are able to help keep your mission critical environments clean with programmed cleaning and monitoring of the rooms and equipment. Combining regular cleaning and CZ Clean Room Panels will ensure your mission critical equipment is well protected from the ingress and damaging effects of particulates. How long could your organisation afford to be without its IT resources? The cost of room cleaning is extremely small when compared against the value of these assets, it is estimated that one hour of down time can cost an average of 300,000 an hour (Source IBM) The increasing technological advances in server, storage and network technology is having an effect on the way you, as an IT professional, will need to operate the environment where your infrastructure operates from. Your suppliers are increasingly telling you how these rooms should be set up with increased emphasis on HVAC protocols and the exclusion of contaminants. Cleaning of mission critical environments will ensure this equipment is not put at risk from the ingress of damaging particulates. Technical cleaning can reduce costs Regular cleaning may increase the life cycle of your equipment, thereby reducing costs. Clean fans require less energy to cool processors, cooling processors reduces the energy demand from the HVAC systems. DRS undertake the cleaning of various types of computer rooms. We are able to clean these to an agreed specification and a high level of quality. There is currently no specification for data centres or other computer rooms. We use a specification based on ISO 14644 class 8. The rooms unless otherwise required are cleaned live to reduce the interruption to your business. The frequency of cleaning these rooms will depend on many factors including the protocols you have in place to combat the ingress of dust. All of these can be discussed during our initial meeting. Prior to cleaning a full risk assessment is undertaken and a method statement issued. DRS are able to offer a free survey of your mission critical equipment room using a sensitive Solair 5100+ particulate counter. This will highlight the threat to your equipment from airborne particulates.

Control Contamination of Critical Environments Do contractors protect your equipment when they work? DRS can protect you IT equipment from contractor works Particulate (Dust) contamination within Data Centres, Server Rooms, Comms Rooms and other critical environments comes from many sources. Sub-micron dust contamination within these rooms can cause many problems and is often referred to as the undetected disaster. A big source of damaging dust contamination is from refurbishment or improvement work carried out within your critical environment. We have developed a process for protecting IT equipment from the dust caused by these refurbishment processes. Utilising proven technology borrowed from the Asbestos removal industry, we have developed a way of enclosing either the work area or the IT equipment. This creates a positive or negative pressurised environment which effectively protects the IT equipment from migrating sub-micron particles. Enclosing the work area DRS will enclose the area where the work is being carried out. We then use a proven system which utilises translucent heavy duty plastic and air lock doors. Once we have the enclosed area we place air scrubbers, HEPA filtered down to 0.3um and 99.99997% efficiency inside the enclosure, venting the filtered air out into the surrounding space. This causes a negative pressure within the enclosure ensuring dust cannot escape into the room. At the same time we filter the air within the enclosure to pull the sub-micron particles out of the air. We can also provide the contractors with HEPA filtered vacuums to vacuum whilst drilling etc. This will reduce the overall dust levels. Enclosing the IT equipment DRS will enclose the IT equipment as above. The difference is that using air scrubbers will create a positive pressure which will ensure dust from the work area cannot get in to the IT equipment. We can control temperature within the enclosure to ensure equipment can continue to work whilst the refurbishment is being carried out. With both of these systems we will supply a manager to manage the control of the contamination such as egress in and out of the space using air lock doors. We can provide HEPA filtered vacuums for use by the contractors, monitor particulate levels within the protected space and maintain pressures, air scrubbers and temperature. After the construction work is complete we will technically clean any areas that require cleaning, provide air particulate readings to prove the room and work areas are safe, then remove the enclosure and hand the whole room back to the IT or Data Centre manager.

Air Particulate Testing & Room Validation What is air testing and validation? There is an international standard for the levels of particulate in the air within clean rooms. This considers many factors but notably the standard provides classes which limit the levels of airborne particulate. The standard ISO 14664 provides classes that have been adopted by architects, engineers and equipment manufacturers as a suitable level for critical environments such as server rooms and data centres. There are 9 classes of which class 8 is the most commonly specified class. Class 8 limits the particulate levels for three sizes of particulate, 0.5 micron, 1 micron and 5 micron. The number of particles allowable per cubic metre is 3,520,000, 832,000 and 29,300 respectively. How is this achieved? DRS use state of the art Lighthouse Solair 5100+ air particulate readers to measure levels in a defined number of locations within a room. The number of readings carried out is based on the area of the room which is entered into a formula. This data is downloaded from the machine in spread sheet form. A visual inspection of all surfaces is carried out and any issues with the room are noted down. What we can offer We can offer you this procedure as a one off service for free as part of a survey when we quote for cleaning your room. We are able to then include the room validation as part of a technical cleaning package. Testing is carried out before and after our clean. We can also provide this as an independent validation service. You will be provided with a certificate of conformity to the standard and a report including the data in tabulated and graphical form. Please feel free to contact us for more information, we can also provide details of previous customers you can contact for a reference.

Contamination Control Raised Floor Tiles DRS can supply CZ Cleanzone tiles with to provide a direct replacement for Tack Mats. CZ Cleanzone tiles are almost four times more efficient and require less maintenance. CZ Cleanzone Tiles use a covering to actively remove particulate (dust) from feet, wheels and anything else that comes into contact with the surface. Dust is attracted to the surface and then held there. Unlike Tack Mats they are big enough for a person to take 3-4 steps on, they also require no peeling and are unavoidable, again unlike Tack Mats. 80% of dust and dirt entering your critical area does so on your feet or wheels. (Source: 3M) CZ Cleanzone panels dramatically reduce the levels of dust from IT server rooms. Switching from peel-off mats to has been proven to reduce airborne particles by 75%. CZ Cleanzone Tiles prevent over 99.9% of dust and dirt entering into an area at or near floor level. The significant benefits to your business are as follows: Extended Lifespan of equipment Reduced data loss Reduced maintenance cost Improved reliability of your facilities Dycem Clean Zone Surface Polymer Improve Profitability Easier to use and more efficient Aesthetically pleasing Environmentally Friendly Integral PVC Edge trim Galvanised Steel Top Plate High Density Chipboard Core (30 or 38mm) Galvanised Steel Soffit Tray Where Can I Use CZ Cleanzone Tiles?
