About YWCA Skills Development Centre The Skills Development Centre (SDC) is a YWCA initiative committed to creating sustainable economic development opportunities for, organizations, individuals and communities. Housed within the Employment and Skills Development department, SDC aspires to become the heart of a vibrant and financially sustainable learning community where leadership development, partnerships, collaborations and social engagements are nurtured and advanced. Women, government, businesses, community partners and individuals can work with SDC by: Participating in a program Purchasing a product or service Sponsoring a participant s training fees Hiring, mentoring or providing a work placement opportunity Becoming a member of our LinksToJobs Women and Employment Network Participating in events and other exciting ventures Receiving our monthly e-bulletins to learn about new initiatives SDC products and services are grouped in three categories: Training and Professional Development Publications and Training Resources Business All programs and services are open to and some are open to men. Participants can register for programs and services by themselves or be referred by other organizations. The cost of attending some of the training programs in could be subsidized by YWCA or paid by the referring agency (Ontario Works (OW), Ontario Disability Support Program (ODSP), Employment Ontario (EO).
The train-the-trainer programs run at a national scale through a network of training partners and can be delivered as in-house programs for organizations seeking to train 10 to 15 staff members. General Educational Development (GED) A two weeks refresher course on academic upgrading focused on math and writing.
