1 Ottawa Community Resources Ottawa Career Assessments, Career Services and Resource Centres Ottawa Assessment Resource Centres, Northern Lights Vocational Services West Centre: 2525 Carling Ave, Ste 27A, Ottawa, K2B 7Z , (Fax) East Centre: 1980 Ogilvie Rd, Ste 163, Ottawa, K1J 9L , (Fax) These bilingual Assessment Resource Centres are open to unemployed Canadian citizens, landed immigrants and convention refugees who are legally entitled to work in Canada. They offer free access to all of the resources that clients need to conduct an effective job search. Resources include: computers with high speed Internet access, printer, fax machine, telephones, and photocopier; resource library containing trade magazines, newspapers, training and educational information; feedback regarding resumes and cover letters; labour market information; one-on-one job search support. Other services include assessment and referral, case management, referrals to Service Canada funded programmes and an outreach service for multi-barriered clients who may find it difficult to access this service in the traditional way. Employment Specialists visit clients at various community partners' centres for an assessment meeting. The career development services offer résumé writing, design and development, career counselling and access to the Internet. Immigrants to Canada are offered help with accreditation and assessment of international credentials.

Whether working, in school or unemployed, individuals are offered personalized career advice, resume and cover letter assistance, strategic work search coaching, interview help and ongoing guidance until individual goals are attained. SCC strives to offer professional and efficient service. As are all SCCs across Canada, the office is a principal link between Canadians in the community and the government of Canada. Employment Insurance (EI) provides temporary financial help to unemployed Canadians while they look for work or upgrade their skills, while they are pregnant or caring for a newborn or adopted child, or while they are sick. Community-based Counselling Services Family Services à la famille Ottawa 312 Parkdale Ave, Ottawa, K1Y 4X , (TTY) , (Fax) fscoc@familyservicesottawa.org Counselling is provided by professional counsellors/ social workers to families and individuals having difficulties with couple, parent-child, family or individual relationships. Services offered include woman abuse counselling; female and male adult sexual abuse survivors counselling; an employee assistance counselling programme and a mental health counselling programme providing individual and group services for persons living with a psychiatric disability. The agency also offers family-life education services; advocacy services, planning, coordination and development of community services; child-parent supervised access and exchanges; group services for children who witness violence; and group services for mothers of children who have witnessed violence. Fees are on a sliding scale, based on income.

Counselling Programme: Offers individual, couple, family and group counselling; mediation for separating and divorcing couples; counselling services for newcomers, victims of torture, sexual abuse survivors, adults from dysfunctional families; therapeutic, educational and problem solving groups; workshops and presentations; individual and systems level advocacy. Fees are on a sliding-scale, based on income level. Services are offered at the main agency and at six community resource centres: Vanier Community Service Centre, Lowertown Community Resource Centre, Sandy Hill Community Health Centre, Eastern Ottawa Resource Centre, Orléans-Cumberland Community Resource Centre and Overbrook- Forbes Community Resource Centre. Jewish Family Services of Ottawa 2255 Carling Ave, Ste 301, Ottawa, K2B 7Z , (Fax) Counselling: With special sensitivity to cultural issues, JFS offers solution-focused individual, family and couple counselling services on a fee-for-service basis to all denominations for all life challenges and transitions. JFS offers counselling and play therapy for children and adolescents who are experiencing behavioural difficulties. All of the counsellors are capable of providing advocacy, teaching life skills such as parenting, coping with depression, anger management, assertiveness, stress reduction and selfesteem, as well as grieving, sexual abuse, separation and divorce mediation. Counsellors will assist clients in accessing community resources. Counselling is also available for children and adolescents. Fees are on a sliding-scale, based on income level. Offers individual psychological assessment and counselling in such areas as career choice, social adjustment, childfamily and marital relationships, behavioural changes, psychotherapy, counselling for couples and families. Fee for service, based on income level. Saint Paul University- Centre for Counselling and Spirituality 223 Main St Ottawa, ON K1S 1C ; It provides individual counselling services to the Ottawa-Gatineau population. The topics mostly presented are: communication patterns, stress management, decision making, life adjustments, interpersonal relationships, integration of spirituality and values, selfknowledge, family issues, grief, separation, divorce, depression, anxiety and other similar difficulties affecting psychological, social or spiritual growth. These services are provided by supervised counsellors. Professional fees are below average and are negotiable.
