In addition to a wide range of online educational services, Beltone University also provides traditional trainings in a classroom setting. Many types of training are available for beginners new to the hearing aid business to experienced practitioners that need to fine tune or expand their knowledge base. The staff of Beltone University prides itself on helping practitioners and practice owners deliver the best patient care and experience in the industry. Training topics for 2015 include a comprehensive information on our newest product, the Beltone Legend, including pairing with Smart Phones, troubleshooting, positioning, and changes to the software. Additional topics include the Beltone Boost, Solus Pro, The Beltone Experience (Sales Protocol), marketing, referrals, testing, instrument repair, and many others. Bernadette Londberg (blondberg@beltone.com) Training Coordinator Bernadette has been with the training department for 9 years organizing and arranging all live classes for Beltone University. Bernadette can assist you in all of your training needs. Ken LaFerle, Au.D. (laferlek@beltone.com) Director of Educational Services Ken has been with Beltone for over 25 years holding various positions including Regional Manager and Director of Audiology. Ken has had several articles published in national trade publications and has presented at more than 100 state and national meetings and in many countries including Japan, Canada, and South Africa. Dr. LaFerle graduated from the University of Michigan with a degree in Psychology & Speech and Hearing Science, received his M.S. degree in Audiology from the University of Montevallo in Alabama where he was named outstanding graduate student and got his Au.D. Degree from Pennsylvania College of Optometry. Ken holds a Certificate of Clinical Competence in Audiology and is a board certified Hearing Instrument Specialist. He also holds an audiology license and hearing aid dispensing license in the state of Illinois. Catherine Hessig, Au.D. (chessig@beltone.com) Manager of Training Catherine came to the Beltone University after working for 3 years as a Technical Support Audiologist at GN ReSound. In addition to her work for Beltone and GN ReSound, Catherine worked clinically for several years providing comprehensive audiological and hearing aid services in Minnesota and California. Dr. Hessig received her B.S. degree in Communication Disorders from the University of Minnesota, her M.S. degree in Audiology from Arizona State University and her Au.D. from A.T. Still University. She holds a Certificate of Clinical Competence in Audiology and is licensed by the state of Minnesota. She is a current member of the American Academy of Audiology, American Speech-Language-Hearing Association, and the Minnesota Academy of Audiology.
Suzanne Lindsey-Henderson, M.A (shenderson@beltone.com) Senior Education Specialist / Sales Trainer Suzanne joined Beltone as an Educational Specialist in 2007. She brings over 30 years of experience as an audiologist with Miracle Ear, AHAA, and Interton. Her background includes training, sales, and business management. She has presented at state and national meetings on a variety of topics. Suzanne received her B.A. degree in Communications from Ohio State University and her M.A. egree in Audiology from Ohio University. She holds a Certificate of Clinical Competency in Audiology, is a fellow of the American Academy of Audiology, and is licensed in both Audiology and Hearing Aid Dispensing in Texas. Tobi Ferrence, M.S. (tferrence@beltone.com) Professional Trainer Tobi joined the Beltone Training Team from working as a Dispensing Audiologist with a private practice in Minneapolis. In addition to her work for Beltone and her dispensing audiologist position she has worked as a Regional Training Audiologist for GN ReSound as well as worked for two different Otolaryngology practices as a clinical dispensing audiologist. She has over 18 years of experience in the field of audiology and dispensing. Tobi received her B.S. in Speech Pathology and Audiology from West Virginia University and her M.S. degree in Audiology from Clarion University of Pennsylvania. She holds a Certificate of Clinical Competence in Audiology and is licensed by the state of Minnesota. She is a current member of the American Academy of Audiology and American Speech- Language- Hearing Association. Laura Schachtel, Au.D. (lschachtel@beltone.com) Professional Trainer Laura joined the Beltone Training Team after working for 4 years as a clinical audiologist in several different franchises, dispensing hearing instruments. While earning her doctorate, Laura worked in the Quality Assurance department for GN ReSound. Dr. Schachtel earned her B.S. in Speech and Hearing Science from the University of Illinois and went on to receive her doctorate degree in audiology from Rush University in Chicago, IL. She is licensed in the state of Illinois and holds a Certificate of Clinical Competence in Audiology. Laura is also a current member of the American Academy of Audiology.
Beltone University offers many live educational opportunities for a wide range of skill levels to our dispensing partners. Signing up for these classes can be done through your Beltone University account. To sign up for a live class, first sign in to your Beltone University account. Ensure that you are in the My TrainCaster (1) tab and select Course Catalog (2). The first category listed in the Course Catalog is Live Classes. These are the classes that are available for live training in 2015 (3). Click on the name of the class that you would like to attend. This will take you to a list of dates and locations for the classes. Navigate to the one that you would like to attend and click on the Register button. If you are an owner or Manager that would like to sign up multiple attendees at once, this is done in the Manage Users tab by selecting the Assign Multiple Users to a Class. Here you will be able to select the attendees you would like to attend and the most convenient class for them to attend.
Experience: Employees with less than 6 months fitting experience. Class Location: (Glenview, IL) Prerequisites: Yes. Online Prerequisites assigned on registration. CEU Hours: No CEU hours available for Boot Camp Purpose: Gain knowledge of skills required to provide patients with best possible hearing care by following the Beltone Experience. Beltone University provides a week long Boot Camp training seminar for new Hearing Care Practitioners with no experience testing, selling or fitting hearing instruments. Beltone University has designed these seminars to provide the beginning steps of the Beltone Experience and lay the groundwork for more advanced learning in the hearing care field. This intensive week long course will help teach the basic fundamentals for: Preparing a patient for the hearing test Basic skills for testing hearing Reading an audiogram Offering hearing aid solutions to a patient Basic sales skills Making ear impressions via a model ear Performing basic hearing aid programming and accessory pairing Offering appropriate follow-up care Attendees will be required to take quizzes pertaining to each day s material and will be assigned homework several nights during the week. All quizzes and homework will be graded and performance skills rated on all the various tasks. A follow-up performance review showing strengths and areas that require further work to refine and build their skills will be attached to the students record on BeltoneUniversity.com after the Boot Camp seminar has concluded for viewing by the owner and student. Experience: Employees who have completed Boot Camp or any licensed HCP or Audiologist Class Location: (Glenview, IL) Prerequisites: See Experience CEU Hours: 4 Purpose: Increase level of comfort with instrument modifications and repairs. BelTech, formerly IMAR, is a half-day hands-on training class designed to increase Owners, Hearing Care Practitioners, and Audiologists level of comfort with modifications and repairs to ear molds, custom hearing aids, receivers, and domes. Attendees will learn how to determine when modifications are needed and then practice their new skills in a hands on environment in order to become proficient. Participants will learn and practice techniques for repairing custom products such as patching a hole, tapering a canal, building up the canal, re-gluing a faceplate, and replacing the retrieval line. There will also be instruction on changing wax guards, the microphone protection system, and the gore microphone filters. Behind the ear (BTE) modifications to receivers and domes will also be explained. June 12 August 21 November 6

ProFit 2015: Building Connections is a one day hands-on training class designed with intermediate to experienced fitters in mind. ProFit provides fitters with the most up to date information regarding Beltone hearing instruments, accessories, and fitting software. This year s ProFit will focus on the latest additions to the Beltone product portfolio including the Beltone Legend and the Beltone Boost. ProFit will provide details on the features, functions, and patient benefits offered with Beltone s state of the art product portfolio. Troubleshooting tips and practical fitting solutions will be emphasized in order help improve patient satisfaction and maximize fitting opportunities.

Beltone University is excited to announce our new class offering for 2015, the Beltone University Training Summit. The focus of the class is on how using advanced technology can increase patient satsifaction and maximize patient personalization. Topics include advances in wireless connectivity, benefits of incorporating wireless connectivity into hearing aid fittings, competitive hearing technology comparisons and using verification and validation to improve fitting outcomes This class will contain a hands-on connectivity lab and exciting guest speakers who are experts in the areas of wireless technology, hearing instrument technology and fitting verification techniques.
