Possible careers: research engineer in public or private research companies, responsible for production researches, R & D project manager, university professor. Mobility The two-year programme is split in 4 semesters: the first year (sem. 1 & 2) is entirely enrolled at one out of the five universities of the consortium, sem. 3 at a different university. Sem. 4 is dedicated to the Master thesis and can be carried out at any university or large scale facility or at partner institutions situated in Switzerland, Japan, India, the USA, and Russia. A visit is organised every year to the neutron reactor of Laboratory Leon Brillouin (LLB), CEA at Saclay, and Soleil the French synchrotron radiation source at Saint-Aubin, close to Paris. This visit represents the first occasion for Mamaself students to come in close contact with Large Scale Facilities. Summer school A 2-week summer school is organized for all Mamaself students in the beginning of the second year at the University of Rennes 1. Its objective is to obtain a wide background in exploring materials using neutron or synchrotron radiation. Status meeting The Mamaself status meeting is organized in Switzerland during the 4th semester and brings together all second-year Mamaself students and representatives of partner institutions. The Master of Photonics offers an international programme at Master 2 level, with all courses delivered in English. All teachers are active researchers who belong to different universities and engineering schools throughout Brittany, in Rennes, Lannion, and Brest. Career prospects Students work in industry or research institutions. Most of the master students pursue PhD programs in or outside Europe. Possible careers: research engineer in public or private research companies, responsible for production researches, R & D project manager, university professor. Admission requirements 240 ECTS or equivalent in physics or material science, and good English level. Applicants will be selected by the Master of Photonics admission committee. Application procedures Campus France: International students belonging to the CEF* procedure must go through the Campus France application. It gives a simplified visa delivery process. www.campusfrance.org/en/page/a-country-using-cef-procedure All other coutries: send directly CV, results of previous studies, and letter of motivation to master-physique@listes.univ-rennes1.fr * Center for studies in France 19

The MSc programme Geosciences of Basins and Lithosphere (GBL) is a European research master's programme which participates in the European Basinmaster. When students finish the GBL programme they obtain two diplomas (Double- Degree) from universities in the GBL consortium. Career prospects Research Once you have obtained your Master s degree, universities will be keen to welcome you as a research student. A Master s degree is also the best route to a career in the oil industry or other industrial sectors. Several oil companies participate directly in the Master s programme, for example by offering research placements. Representatives from these companies typically meet the Master s students in an informal setting once a year. These sessions are especially helpful if you are considering a career in the oil industry. Management courses are available for graduates interested in working for a government agency or similar organization. Orientation towards a career and the labour market The participation of expertise from other research institutions gives the BasinMaster a unique profile through a combination of top-level courses that would be impossible to present at a national level. The combination of partners has been chosen to provide the best possible education in their specialisations, and quality assurance systems have been set up to ensure this level can be maintained. In addition, the international dimension of the programme provides a strong added value for students. The close connection with potential future employers, through the organisation of short industry placements and guest lectures, provides the students with excellent opportunities in the international job market. 25
