State-of-the-art Training Facility In 2013 the OMICRON Academy opened its state-of-the-art Training Center in Houston as part of an ongoing effort to improve the quality of our service and training to customers in North and Latin America. Our new indoor, fully air conditioned, hands-on training facilities are just minutes away from downtown Houston and area airports. Equipment for Hands-on Training Our indoor substation equipment includes: > > 10 MVA power transformer for all typical electrical power transformer tests as well as advanced diagnostics > > 69 kv SF6 circuit breaker and a 15 kv vacuum breaker for circuit breaker testing > > Partial Discharge (PD) testing area > > Hands-on Protective Relay Lab for up to 16 people > > Training area for distribution automation Credits For all training classes, you will receive a certificate of participation hand-signed by your instructor. Our Team of Instructors Jay Anderson Jay has recently come to OMICRON with 24 years experience in the utility industry. His experience consists of substation construction, maintenance, and operations. Many of those years were also specialized in protective relay, control, and SCADA systems. He holds a BSEE from The University of Lowell, Massachusetts. Scott Cooper Scott is a Training/Application Engineer with OMICRON. He has over 17 years' experience in a variety of high intensity sales, application engineering, and training roles having worked for Manta and Beckwith, mainly selling and supporting Protection & Control test equipment and P&C systems. He lives in St. Petersburg, Florida. Brandon Dupuis Brandon is an OMICRON instructor teaching electrical transformer diagnostic testing theory, application, and test result analysis. He joined OMICRON in 2013, where he presently holds the position of Regional Application Specialist for transformer testing. Brandon s focus is on standard and advanced electrical diagnostics for power transformers and circuit breakers. He is a graduate of the University of Maine with a BSEE. William Knapek Will has 33 years experience in the Power System Testing business. He retired from the US Army Corps of Engineers as a Chief Warrant Officer after 20 years of service. Will is certified as a Senior NICET Technician and a former NETA Level IV technician. He is also a member of IEEE. He obtained his BS in Industrial Technology from East Carolina University. Donald Platts Don has over 40 years experience in the electric utility industry, working with PPL Electric Utilities, SPX Transformer Solutions (formerly known as Waukesha Electric Systems), and as an independent consulting engineer. Don has been an active participant in the IEEE PES Transformers Committee for over 26 years. He received his BSEE from Lafayette College and is a licensed Professional Engineer in Pennsylvania. Keith Saplin Keith has 8 years of experience with protective relays and distribution automation. He specialized in relay and recloser testing. Keith is a former applications engineer for two different IED manufacturers and obtained his BSEE from Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology, Terre Haute, Indiana. Charles Sweetser Charles has 16 years experience in the electrical apparatus diagnostic and consulting business. He has published several technical papers for IEEE and other industry forums. Charles is a member of IEEE PES & IEEE Transformer Committee. He received his BSEE and MSEE from the University of Maine. Benton Vandiver Benton has 34 years experience in Power Systems Protection & Control, Design, Operations. He is a registered Professional Engineer in Texas and a member of IEEE/PES/PSRC, IEEE-SA, USNC/CIGRE. Benton has published over 100 technical papers and articles. He is a graduate of the University of Houston with a BSEE. Tim Walker Tim has 29 years experience in substation and protection & control design, operation, testing and instructing. He is an expert on digital protection & control schemes and check out. Tim developed scenarios that reinforce protection & control schemes. He is a member of The American Society of Training and Development. He received his BSEET from Franklin University in Columbus, Ohio. Daron Watson Daron is a Technical Support Engineer with OMICRON and has 23 years experience as an electrician working in residential, commercial, and industrial settings. Daron has an Associate Degree in Applied Science Technical Studies from Excelsior College where he is currently pursuing a BSEET (Power Systems)..
