College, Patna 800014 OBJECTIVE The Central University of Bihar (CUB) is one among the newly established Central Universities by the Government of India under the Central Universities Act, 2009 (Section 25 of 2009). The University is presently functioning from two campuses, Patna (BIT Campus, P.O. - B. V. College, Patna-800014) and Gaya (New Area Bisar, Gaya-823001). The University shall be permanently located at Panchanpur, approximately 12 km from Gaya. Envisioned under Section 5 of the Act, the objective of the Central University of Bihar is:... to disseminate and advance knowledge by providing instructional and research facilities in such branches of learning as it may deem fit; to make special provisions for integrated courses in humanities, social sciences, and technology in its educational programmes; to take appropriate measures for promoting innovations in teachinglearning process and inter-disciplinary studies and research; to educate and train manpower for the development of the country; to establish linkages with industries for the promotion of science and technology and to pay special attention to the improvement of the social and economic conditions and welfare of the people, their intellectual, academic and cultural development. In pursuance of its objectives and considering the emerging needs of society, the University has been evolving different Programmes ever since its inception in 2009. A brief snapshot of the academic programmes offered by CUB is outlined in this brochure. BEd., BSc.BEd. - Integrated Dual Degree Under Graduate Programme (4 Years/8 Semesters) Integrated MPhil-PhD Programme Objective: The object of integrated MPhil-PhD programme is to train quality researchers fully competent for pursuing independent research. The University shall offer research degree programme leading to Master of Philosophy (MPhil) and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD). Highlights of Integrated MPhil-PhD Programme 1. All India admission test. 2. Financial assistance of Rs.5000 @ per month to enrolled students. 3. Course work for broad and sound theoretical knowledge with semester system and choice based credit system. 4. Sound training in research methodology. 5. Regular and Full time Research. 6. Maintaining high standard of MPhil-PhD thesis work. 7. Development of competence in writing and communication of research. 8. Training to be a good researcher and faculty. A student will work Full-time on regular basis for his/her MPhil-PhD degree. Normally a candidate admitted to the PhD programme will be required to stay in the University during the entire period of MPhil, three semesters, nearly one year and six months. Additionally, the minimum residential requirement for a registered PhD candidate shall be three (3) semesters (after completion of MPhil) and in case, a PhD scholar is granted leave after minimum residential period, s/he must enrol for a period required for final submission of her/his PhD thesis, as per the regulations.
After enrolment for the PhD program a Research Scholar may be permitted to be on leave from the Department/Centre for a limited number of days per year according to the regulations framed by the authority. Persons working in research projects (DST, DBT ICSSR, ICHR, ICAR and others) in CUB or have been awarded JRF (UGC, CSIR, GATE and other) may be considered for admission in Integrated MPhil-PhD Programme on the recommendation of the Admission Committee on supernumery seats subject to their fulfilment of the admission and eligibility criteria through test and interview. Course work and MPhil degree: All candidates enrolled for the integrated MPhil-PhD programme are required to complete the course work leading to MPhil degree. They shall have to enrol for: (i.a) a minimum of 4 or more courses (total of 16 credits) to be completed in the first (i.b) (ii) and second semester. literature review, research, seminar, presentation skills and MPhil dissertation proposal and research. The Research Scholar shall undertake research work and produce a draft thesis within a reasonable time, as stipulated by the Department/Centre Research Degree Committee (DRDC/CRDC) and to the satisfaction of the supervisor so that progress in quality dissertation work is maintained. The MPhil degree shall be awarded to an admitted candidate on the basis of: (i) Completion of course work (an average Grade not below B+ for General and B for SC/ST/PD) generally spread over two Semesters; (ii) Submission of the MPhil dissertation within six (6) months after completion of the courses required for MPhil and its evaluation (b) with a provision of extension of six (6) months with the approval of the School Research Degree Committee (SRDC). However, the maximum period of extension for MPhil shall not exceed additional one year; and (iii) A final viva-voce examination Ph.D. Programme: The MPhil passed student of this University (with Grade B+ for General and B for SC/ST/PD) who is willing to pursue the PhD programme of this University shall have to register for PhD in the fourth semester of the integrated programme. M. Tech student will directly register to PhD programme after successful completion of course work in first and second semesters (with Grade B+).
Financial Assistance to MPhil-PhD programme: As per the UGC norms, financial assistance of Rs. 5,000/- per month will be provided to the enrolled candidates during Integrated MPhil-PhD programme. However, the renewal of assistantship is contingent on the student's satisfactory performance in the academic programme. Candidates getting financial support (such as salary/ fellowship/ assistantship) from any other sources shall not be eligible for UGC financial assistance. Admission Procedure for Integrated MPhil-PhD Programme in January 2014 Minimum Qualification for Admission: All candidates seeking admission to the Integrated MPhil-PhD programme must have Master degree in the related subject with 55% marks (or corresponding CGPA). Relaxation of 5% for SC/ST candidate is permissible. All candidates must have good academic record of 50% marks in both Intermediate and Bachelor levels. Application Fee: Only through Bank Challan (Rs.500/- for General/OBC candidates) & (Rs.250/- for SC/ST) in favour of Central University of Bihar payable at Patna. Procedure for Admission: The admission to the Integrated MPhil-PhD programme will be based on All India Admission Test/Interview conducted by the University. Students who have qualified in UGC-NET/SLET/GATE/Teacher Fellowship or MPhil degree holders are not exempted from written test. Entrance Test i. For regular and full time Integrated MPhil-PhD programme, candidates shall have to appear for a written test (Objective/Descriptive) and Interview. ii. Based on scores of Objective Test, a merit list of candidates will be prepared separately in accordance with the number of seats. Only short listed candidates will be called for final test and interview. Entrance Test Patten (i) Objective Test (Online at Patna Only) (Total marks: 50, Max. time: 1 Hr) shall consist of two parts comprising multiple choice type questions:-
i. Part A: General awareness, numerical ability, research and teaching aptitude (15 Marks) ii. Part B: Subject Knowledge (35 Marks) (ii) Descriptive Test (Total marks:50, Max.time:1 Hrs) comprising subject related theoretical/descriptive questions/statement of purpose. (iii) Interview: Total Marks: 50 General Instructions The online application form shall be available on the University website http://www.cub.ac.in.
