Registered Professional Nurse Job Description- A Southern Healthcare Agency Registered Nurse is a competent, conscientious, and a dependable member of the professional health care team. The nurse functions independently, using the nursing process to make nursing assessments and judgments. 1. Qualifications a) A current license to practice as a registered professional nurse in the state of practice. b) Graduate of an accredited school of nursing. c) Excellent mental, physical, and emotional health d) At least (1) year of professional clinical practice as a registered nurse in the United States in a chosen area of practice preferred. 2. Functions a) Provides total patient care according to physician s orders and individual patient s needs in accordance with recognized standards of practice and the hospital s protocol and standards. b) Assesses and documents pertinent information that reflects the patients clinical condition, with respect to meeting all patient needs (physical, emotional, spiritual) Reports the same to oncoming nurses, charge nurse, and physicians. c) Maintains accurate and complete records of nursing observations and care given. d) Assigns patients to ancillary personnel based on patient needs and personnel s qualifications. e) Supervises the care given by ancillary personnel. f) Acts as a role model for ancillary personnel and fellow nurses. g) Performs or supervises treatment and administers medications as required. h) Assures cost effective outcome oriented care. i) Conducts team conferences and assumes responsibility for keeping plans, implementation and evaluations of nursing care unit. j) Is deeply involved with patient and/or family teaching. k) Cooperates in maintaining a high level of order, safety and strict control over narcotics and other federally scheduling drugs. l) Institutes emergency procedures in absence of a physician according to hospital protocol. m) Keeps abreast of current nursing trends and continuing education.

Registered Nurse Critical/Coronary Care 1. Provides professional nursing care for assigned patients in the critical/coronary care unit. 2. Evaluates, assesses and documents the total critical care nursing process as needed. 3. Performs various patient tests and administers medications with the scope of practice of the registered nurse in critical care. 4. Promotes patient independence by establishing patient care goals and teaching patient and family to understand condition, medications and self care skills. 5. Familiar with standard concepts, practices and procedures within the critical care field.

Registered Nurse Emergency Room 1. Provides professional nursing care for assigned patients in the emergency room. 2. Triages each patient and determines priority of care based on physical, psychological and social needs as well as factors influencing patient flow through the emergency care system. 3. Performs focused assessment of chief complaint on each patient in a timely manner according to established triage guidelines. 4. Familiar with standard concepts, practices and procedures within a particular field. 5. Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.

Registered Nurse Intensive Care 1. Provides professional nursing care for assigned patients in the intensive care unit. 2. Evaluates, assesses and documents the total intensive care nursing process as needed. 3. Performs various patient tests and administers medications with the scope of practice of the registered nurse. 4. Promotes patient independence by establishing patient care goals and teaching patient and family to understand condition, medications and self care skills. 5. Familiar with standard concepts, practices and procedures within the critical care field.

Registered Nurse Medical Surgical 1. Evaluates, plans implements and documents nursing care for an assigned patient population. 2. Assists physician during examinations and procedures. 3. Performs various patient tests and administers medications with the scope of practice of the registered nurse. 4. Promotes patient independence by establishing patient care goals and teaching patient and family to understand condition, medications and self care skills. 5. Familiar with standard concepts, practices and procedures within the medical surgical field.

Registered Nurse Operating Room 1. Evaluates, plans implements and documents nursing care for operating room patient population. 2. Assists physician during operating procedures. 3. Functions in a scrub and circulating nurse role. 4. Familiar with standard concepts, practices and procedures within the operating room field. 5. Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.
