The development of gas cogeneration
PGNiG Capital Group Strategy PGNiG Capital Group is a leader in the Polish market of natural gas. Within its strategy, the Company aims to transform into a modern, integrated multi-energy group. The entity responsible for the development of the Group s potential on the power and heating markets is PGNiG TERMIKA. One of the fundamental directions of expansion of PGNiG TERMIKA is the establishment of gas-based power generation sources through development of communal and industrial heating systems based on gas-fuelled cogeneration technologies. The aim of the Group is to develop by 2020 a range of cogeneration sources of various size with 400 MWeof total installed power. An important part of the future success is the already commenced construction of CCGT unit in Stalowa Wola, in joint venture with Tauron Wytwarzanie. The Group, tapping on the competences of PGNiG TERMIKA, plans to carry out new investment projects consisting in the development or upgrading (with the use of gas engines or turbines) of small and medium cogeneration and trigeneration sources. 2
PGNiG TERMIKA is the biggest Polish cogenerator. PGNiG TERMIKA plants generate 11% of Polish district heat, which reaches 75 percent of Warsaw s citizens and 60 percent of the citizens of towns: Pruszków, Piastów and Michałowice. The energy generation takes place in fi ve plants: CHP Siekierki CHP Żerań CHP Pruszków HOB Kawęczyn HOB Wola The Group aims to develop a range of cogeneration sources with total capacity of 400 MWeby the year 2020. Due to the cogeneration process, PGNiG TERMIKA also covers about 50 percent of Warsaw s demand for electric power. The heat generated in the Warsaw plants is distributed via the city s district heating network, operated by Dalkia Warszawa, while in Pruszków and its area by PGNiG TERMIKA s own district heating system. 3
PGNiG TERMIKA: Gas sources are the future PGNiG TERMIKA currently focuses on the construction of modern, high-effi ciency and low-emissions generation sources based on gas cogeneration technologies. The Company s strong interest in the development of gas-based cogeneration units is related to the energy effi ciency of these sources, which is illustrated on the chart below. The development of gas-based cogeneration in Poland by PGNiG Capital Group will be possible only with the systematic development of gas transmission and distribution systems. The guarantee of gas supply for the needs of new generation units will derive from the development of Polish gas mining, cross-border gas lines and new directions of LNG procurement. Gas-based generation sources generate only about half of CO2 emissions of hard coal fired plants. They do not emit dust nor SOx, and there is no need for cumbersome and costly transportation of ash and slag. 5
Key projects
CCGT in Stalowa Wola This is the fi rst project on such scale in Poland. The 450 MWe and 240 MWt generating unit is being erected at the site of extant Stalowa Wola Power Plant as a joint investment venture between Tauron Wytwarzanie and PGNiG TERMIKA. The generating unit is located in direct vicinity of a high-pressure gas transmission pipe belonging to OGP GAZ-SYSTEM. This convenient location will allow for a relatively quick connection of the new unit without excessive expenditures on connection infrastructure. CHP Stalowa Wola will, according to plans, generate 350 GWh of electric energy and burn around 600 million cubic metres of methane-rich natural gas. The construction of the power plant has already started. The general developer of the CHP plant is Abener Energia, a Spanish company, and the waste heat boiler is being constructed by Foster-Wheeler. The new CHP plant will be commissioned for commercial use in Q2 2015. The value of the project is around PLN 1.5 billion. 7

Due to the construction of new generating unit the already worn-out coal boilers will be decommissioned, and the new unit will allow for an increase of electric energy generation by 50 percent. The unit with 450 MWe of installed capacity will consume over 650 million cubic metres of gas per annum. The commissioning is planned for 2018. Technical parameters of the unit will conform to Industrial Emissions Directive (IED) and Best Available Technologies (BAT). The project will contribute to the power supply security of Warsaw agglomeration and will result in noticeable improvement of air quality. 8
New CHP Pruszków On the grounds of CHP Pruszków, operating since almost a hundred years now, a major refurbishment will take place, including: The development of new generating source based on four gas engines of total capacity 16 MWe/15MWt, Upgrade of two extant hot water boilers WR-25 to accommodate them to future, more stringent environmental regulations; Construction of a new peak-load/reserve boiler room fi red with natural gas/light oil. 9
