Ramblings Where did summer go? Labor Day is over, school has begun and the sun sets by 7:20 each evening; soon our beloved light turns to the nourishing darkness of winter. The change of the seasons is full of energy and creativity and is a reflection of life here at St Irenaeus. There have been many activities here this summer and there are many planned for the coming months. Let's see what has been and what is on the horizon... The summer meal programs finished on August 29. Stacy Padden and her crew did a terrific job providing a safe place for kids from the neighborhood to come each day for a couple of hours. Vacation Bible School was a huge success for those who attended. Thanks to Colleen Pochyly, Terri Cardin and Amy Leddy for their dedication to this Ministry of the Word! And to all those who showed up for Grounds clean up day back in June, kudos for a job well done! Our parish campus is looking pretty good! What a treat it was to have some of the fresh produce from the Community Garden available last week, great food, good food and healthy food for good people! Again many thanks to all those dedicated to farming and caring for Mother Earth! A huge debt of gratitude to those who have taken on the chairs of the Parish Transformation Mission plan committees, you are deeply appreciated! They are: Cait Phipps-Diversity Committee; Joe Augustyn-Liturgy Committee; Nick Battaglia-Spirituality Committee; Jim Francesconi-Fundraising and Stacy Padden-Volunteer Coordinator. Many blessings on you as you respond to your Baptismal Call of service and discipleship. And to all the parishioners as you have been extremely patient as we have journeyed through the summer and the air conditioning saga, may you all be blessed a hundred fold! We are well on our way to meeting our $22k goal! Your generosity is incredible! This weekend we begin our 2014-2015 Religious Education Program! All are invited to the Religious Education Building for an open house! Come see what the Religious Education program offers in support of our families. This open house is for Religious Education families and all parishioners! Come and join in the fun. And finally don't forget to mark your calendar for our "Movies that Matter" series. Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close kicks off the series on, September 14 followed by Fully Alive on, September 28. Both will be viewed in Room 8 at 2:30 pm. Come join us! May the spirit of the living God continue to guide us and be with us as we live our everyday lives! St. Irenaeus, Pray for us! Peace Fr Terry

We welcome Sr. Lorraine Therese DeFebbo to St. Irenaeus Parish as our new Pastoral Associate for Music and Liturgy. Sr. Lorraine is a native of Weirton, West Virginia and a member of the Franciscan Sisters of Our Lady of Perpetual Help in St. Louis, MO. No stranger to south suburbs of Chicago, Sr. Lorraine served at St. Gerard Majella in Markham from 1982-1984. The Franciscan Sisters of Our Lady of Perpetual Help also serve at Our Lady of the Ridge in Chicago Ridge and in the past at St. Joseph in Chicago Heights and St. Francis of Assisi on Walton St. in the city. Sr. Lorraine brings to our parish a variety of gifts and ministry experience. Her ministry credentials include a BA in Music Education as well as an MA in Theology (Liturgical Studies) from the University of Notre Dame. She has ministered as the Director of Music and Liturgy/ Pastoral Associate in parishes in St. Louis, Milwaukee and Columbia Illinois. She has also served as a Junior High Teacher, campus minister, and a member of her congregation s leadership team from 2000-2005. In her spare time, Sr. Lorraine enjoys baseball, especially the St. Louis Cardinals, Notre Dame football, movies, trivia, St. Therese of Lisieux, Stephen Colbert and Broadway musicals. I am very happy and excited to share my gifts and talents as a member of the pastoral staff and parish community of St. Irenaeus. When I came St. Irenaeus for my interview, I was very impressed by the welcoming spirit I experienced. I am looking forward to working together with Fr. Terry, the liturgical ministers, and all parishioners to continue to build a prayerful and welcoming community of faith at St. Irenaeus! Peace and all good! Sr. Lorraine DeFebbo, OSF
