Bachelor of Program in Medical Educational Degree: Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University, Bangkok, Thailand The Medical Educational The Bachelor of Program in Medical Educational at the Medical Education Center (METC), Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University is the one of a very few undergraduate programs in Asia. The program initially started in 1966 as a medical photography school and has maintained exceeding the high standards for undergraduate education ever since. For more than 45 years, the program has expanded to other areas including medical illustration, sculpture, audiovisual, computer and digital techniques. The program covers the full range of artistic media and production techniques. Traditional techniques such as drawing, painting, sculpturing as well as computer technologies and digital techniques including vector and raster images for print, graphic design, video production, animation and interactive multimedia, and communication technologies have been integrated into the curriculum. In addition to being skilled medical education technologists and artists, our students must be knowledgeable in anatomy, physiology, microbiology, pathology and other related health sciences topics. This is because an understanding of basic medical subjects is essential for them to demonstrate idea or complex concept which cannot be directly observed. By combining art and science, the Bachelor of Program in Medical Educational will teach students to translate medical content into instructional medical education media to visually support the allied health and medical educational fields. Learning Environments The METC is located in Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University, the oldest and biggest university hospital in Thailand. Our students will be able to obtain firsthand experience in real-life medical situations with on-campus access to a state-of-the-art human anatomy laboratory. Fully equipped photography studio, sculpture studio, and video production studio are carefully designed to support learning activities. Computers and other digital technologies are integrated into the classroom environment to facilitate students creation and experience of sophisticated design and media production. AEC students welcome In 2012, the program is approved by the board committee of the Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital to offer an opportunity for Asean Economic Community s (AEC) students to participate the program. This will be effective from 2013 onwards starting with 5 neighbor countries around Thailand including Cambodia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, and Vietnam. Each country has a quota of 1 or 2 students per year depending on the total numbers of applicants. AEC students who apply to the program must be efficient in listening, speaking, reading, and writing in Thai and English. Scholarships for AEC students The Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital offers maximum of 2 scholarships to AEC students per year starting from 2014. A scholarship provides financial assistance including a stipend that covers tuition fees and living allowances. Students from Cambodia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, and Vietnam are eligible to apply for the scholarships. All admission requirements must be submitted in order to apply for the scholarship. Scholarship decisions are based primarily upon the student's prior academic performance, Thai language efficiency, and art portfolios. Admission requirements for AEC students To be considered for admission, applicants must have completed secondary school in science program with minimum GPA of 3.00 and following documents are required: A completed application and 400-500 word essay in Thai An original or certified true copy of the secondary school record or transcript with a literal translation in English performed by a licensed translator and signed in ink. The academic report should include a list of subjects studied, a qualitative rating on a course-by-course basis and an overall rating Official copies of the secondary school leaving certificate or diploma 3-5 pieces drawing and painting (still-life, landscape, figure, etc.) portfolio A report of physical examination (Applicant must not be a colorblind person because this field of works requires ability to distinguish color in visual art works.) How to Send Your Admissions Documents Representative of each country has an authority to select a qualified student who meets the admission requirements. The application form can be downloaded from www.si.mahidol.ac.th/met. Together with the application form, other documents including a 400-500 word essay in Thai, certified true copy of the secondary school record or transcript, secondary school leaving certificate, report of physical examination, and 3-5 pieces drawing and painting portfolio must be enclosed within the application package. Please note that the application will be processed in the student selection procedure only if the enclosures meet the minimum requirements. The application period starts on March 3, 2014 and closes on May 2, 2014 at 16.00 (GMT+7).
