NEW FEATURES FOR RELEASE 4.1.1-2 The primary focus of Release 4.1.1-2 is to provide product improvements and key enhancements for Backup Professional Agents that will increase the speed, reliability and usability of the Unitrends solution. This release includes upgrades to the following products: Backup Professional Agent for Novell Netware Backup Professional Agent for Solaris Backup Professional Agent for Linux Backup Professional Agent for Windows Server 2008 Backup Professional Agent for Windows Server 2003 Unitrends Appliance and Agents Users Manual Enhancements included in this release are listed below by Agents. These features all require version 4.1.1 of the Unitrends Appliance Packages on the DPU appliance and on the DPV appliance. NOVELL AGENT BARE METAL OPTIMIZER The Novell Agent adds the feature Bare Metal Optimizer. The Novell Bare Metal Optimizer cleanses disk-blocks that contain data remnants accumulated from deleted files or defragmentation. The Bare Metal backup takes hold of all dirty blocks, and therefore, the size of the Bare Metal backup may be much larger than the available space on the system. The Bare Metal Optimizer provides a solution for this issue. For additional details on this feature, see the Novell Bare Metal Optimizer chapter in the Agents User Manual. SOLARIS AGENT The Solaris Agent now offers support for backups containing long path names (8192 characters). LINUX AGENT Security-Enhanced Linux (SELinux) is a Linux feature that provides a variety of security policies. If SELinux is enabled on a Linux system, the system may contain extended attributes. This release of agent software offers backup and restore capabilities for these extended attributes. 1

VMware VCB (VMware Consolidated Backup) Backing Up the Guest VM as a client Unitrends recommends using the VMware Data Recovery product for protecting the virtual machines on the ESX or ESXi system. For detailed information on this topic, please refer to the Protecting ESX document located on UConnect. GROUPWISE GRANULAR RESTORE DOCUMENTATION This document provides a detailed description of the steps required to restore the entire GroupWise database, a single user account, a single Mailbox or a single item from a backup performed with Unitrends Backup Professional software. For more information, please refer to the GroupWise Granular Restore document located on UConnect. APPLIANCE AND AGENTS USER MANUAL The Appliance and Agents Manual has been separated into two different manuals. The Appliance User Manual contains information directly associated with the Unitrends appliances, while the Agents User Manual is focused on information related to the agents. 4.1.1 RESOLVED ISSUES The following defects have been resolved in this release of the Appliance Software: ID Description 7229 Issue: Files that are in use during a backup were being skipped and not included in the backup. Resolution: Files that are in use during a backup will still be skipped but they will not be permanently skipped (added to the skip file list). 7734 Issue: Intermittent failure with Bare Metal restore where the disk size calculation is off by <= 1MB causes the restore to fail with message: disk is too small to restore the image. Resolution: Bare Metal restore where disk size calculation is off by <=1MB will no longer fail because of disk size. 6236 Issue: Enable Seek in Restore parameter was not the default for WinPE Bare Metal restores. Resolution: Enable Seek in Restore parameter is now the default for WinPE Bare Metal restores. 7129 Issue: Exchange Store level backups include system state by default. 3
Resolution: Removed system state as default for Exchange Store Level backups for Windows 2008. 7731 Issue: SQL Server Agent does not support DB containing full text catalog. Resolution: Work-around is to display message warning that SQL Agent does not support DB configured with full-text catalogs. 7505 Issue: Backup fails with only 1 skipped filed. Summary information was being sent only the last volume, rather than an aggregate of all volumes, causing the 1/1000 ratio of skipped files on the DPU to be incorrect. Resolution: Transfer aggregate of all volumes to ensure proper calculation of 1/1000 ratio of skipped files. 7712 Issue: Installed pathch from Novell 'edir 8.8 SP5', and backups started failing, DSBK screen requires a keystroke to clear and users cannot login until someone presses a key on the DSBK screen. Resolution: Added a work-around until the issue is resolved by Novell. 7555 Issue: Restore of system state fails on Vista x64 SP2 due to backup of registry key. Resolution: Prohibit backup of registry key causing failure to restore. 7451 Issue: Backing up virtual or encrypted files on Windows agent results in file handler leak. Resolution: Fix file handler leak when backing up/restoring virtual or encrypted file on Windows agent. 4
RESTRICTIONS AND LIMITATIONS SQL SERVER AGENT The SQL Server Agent does not support Full Text Catalogs. The SQL Server Maintenance Plan must be used to backup and restore databases that are configured to have Full Text Catalogs. HOT BAREMETAL BACKUPS The Hot BareMetal functionality of Backup Professional is not currently supported on Linux LVMs or Windows dynamic disks. To successfully create a BareMetal backup for these platforms, the cold BareMetal methodology must be followed. DISSIMILAR RESTORES The Windows Dissimilar BareMetal restore process does not support Windows Server 2008 or any 64-bit environments. SOLARIS AGENT EXCLUSION LIST The Solaris Agent will only support exclusions up to 512 characters. SOLARIS AGENT WILDCARDS The Solaris Agent does not support the use of wildcards. ACTIVE DATA ASSURANCE CONTRACTS The appliance upgrade process checks to ensure that DPU appliances and DPV appliances are subject to an active DA contract prior to allowing the upgrade process to begin.
