CGI for Insurance Preparing for tomorrow, today.

www.cgi-group.co.uk 1 Getting ahead of the curve Fast paced. If there s one way to sum up today s insurance industry, fast paced is it. Changes happen remarkably quickly and as a result, the economic environment we operate in is much more fluid. Technology developments alone are presenting new challenges and opportunities almost every day. Keeping up is an increasingly difficult task, especially if you re dealing with legacy technology that just isn t flexible enough to stay abreast with modern requirements. Insurance providers need to step up. Business practices need to be more dynamic than ever before, using all the tools available to create the most relevant and innovative solutions for a new breed of customer. To improve your customer experience, get ahead of the competition, deliver operational excellence, and continually collaborate and innovate, you need to harness the power of technology, big data and the might of customers themselves. At CGI, we align our solutions to match your needs. Our business model ensures that we keep the focus on these needs, driving success and working with you to transform your organisation into an agile, go-getting business that s ready for anything. We ve got a reputation for successful delivery that s unequalled, and we re looking forward to hearing your challenges and working together to find solutions. Neil Sadler Vice President and Head of Insurance, CGI UK

www.cgi-group.co.uk 2 Knowing the score One of the fundamental changes in the insurance industry is in risk. Of course, risk itself is the cornerstone on which the industry is built, but the way we use technology today is changing our attitude towards it (and our efficacy in changing it) and this is presenting new challenges. Almost all aspects of our lives are connected smartphones wake us up in the morning, tablets show us our day s schedule, satnavs deliver us to our destination where we log on to a desktop for the remainder of the day. Imagine a future where all these things are linked: your meeting is pushed back so your alarm allows you an extra twenty minutes in bed. You get in the car to leave, but the satnav finds that there s an accident on your normal route to work, so it automatically reroutes. The journey takes four minutes extra, but as you pull into the car park, your smartphone sends a message to the coffee machine and it starts to make your morning brew. You walk into the office on time, well-rested and your morning goes off without a hitch. This hyper-connectedness means that we can be given a more accurate risk score that can be used by insurers to create a policy specifically tailored to the individual. And that s all because of the vast reams of data that are collected every minute of every day. And more than that, consumers themselves are changing; their behaviours are adjusting as they become aware of their lifestyles and the impact they can have on their own risk score think of the little black box in motoring this could soon become reality for all aspects of insurance. Your organisation needs to be equipped to deal with this shift. CGI works with over 300 insurance clients worldwide providing software and implementation support for insurance rating solutions, working at the leading edge of data augmentation, including telematics and Industry collaborative data sources. Telematics car insurance the little black box can knock 25 per cent to 30 per cent off policies, saving some young drivers up to 1,000. It s expected that one in four car insurance policies will be telematics-based by 2020. Source: Money Super Market, 2014 [Online]. www.cgi-group.co.uk 3 Tomorrow s world Cast your mind back twenty years ago. You probably didn t have a mobile phone you didn t know you needed one. If you wanted information, you d head to the library the internet was in its infancy, and it certainly wasn t mobile, accessible from the device in your pocket. Now, think forward twenty years. It s almost impossible to imagine how different the world might be if such a rapid rate of technological change continues. With wearable technology, the Internet of Things, and self-funding insurance, the world we live in is starting to look like something out of a retro science fiction film even hoverboards are in development. So how do you give people peace of mind when things change so quickly? Technological developments come with a whole host of challenges that translate directly into consumer concerns. Your organisation needs to be equipped to provide the reassurance of continuing value customers now need and expect. In a way that improves your efficiency and bottom line. You re tasked with doing more for less. Technology and service together form the basis of a future-proof approach. You need to utilise the latest innovations to improve your business practices and your customers experiences. CGI is at the forefront of the development of solutions for our clients that are capturing the opportunity presented by the Internet of Things ; recognised globally by Microsoft as a leader in this field. In fact, in July 2014, we were awarded the 2014 Microsoft Intelligent Systems Partner of the Year Award. We have already deployed applications that are transforming other business sectors and can already see the potential impacts on the Insurance business model: from consumer disintermediation to product innovation opportunities.

www.cgi-group.co.uk 6 Unlocking data s potential Our solutions give you the power to understand and process the sheer quantity of data that s now available. We use BI and analytics to determine new risk data, pricing and rating risks. Our extensive industry expertise can give you the tools to gain critical competitive advantage. We enable you to deal with information; to spot patterns, analyse trends, and adapt your approach accordingly. Our insurance specialist consultants use data mining and other techniques to create solutions that are both effective and meet regulatory requirements. We can provide standard platforms, as well as the option to model new capabilities. And, perhaps most crucially in today s environment, you need to operate securely. Cyber threats are a growing issue, and you need peace of mind that your systems, data and customers are all protected. You need to work with partners that can provide the foresight and capabilities to anticipate cyber attacks and take decisive action when they occur. Risks need to be managed, claims reduced and product-line margins increased. CGI is the largest cyber security supplier in the UK, and we were responsible for the 2011 Census programme, which assured the privacy of more than 60 million people. We are also trusted with the biggest and most complex single infrastructure project in Europe the UK s Ministry. CGI provides cyber security assessment templates and triage services to specialist insurer Beazley, whose Beazley Breach Response (BBR) solution addresses the concerns of customers whose personally identifiable data is lost or stolen: as a market-leading provider of cyber insurance, it is vital that our clients have access to expert and reliable forensic I.T services in the event that they experience a data breach. Working alongside CGI allows us to provide insureds with swift assistance when they need it most, and we are delighted to count them amongst our key partners." Paul Bantick: London Market & International TMB (Technology, Media and Business service) Focus Group Leader

www.cgi-group.co.uk 7 Operational excellence As well as being able to understand and manipulate data, your organisation needs to be able to cope with the increasingly competitive market. This means improving the core operational areas of your business, making them more streamlined and efficient. You need to reduce unnecessary cost, and improve your processes. It s more than just rounding off the corners, your business needs to be in a position where you re able to present new business models, products, channels and technology to grow your stake in the market and drive the whole industry forward. You need to be making decisions today that will stand you in good stead for tomorrow and beyond. And this doesn t have to mean large capital outlays, it means getting the most out of your assets. We support innovation within your business, helping you to meet the challenges of the future. And we know that these can t happen with just one person alone; you need to galvanise the whole organisation in order to make the changes stick. That s why our work with the Spark Centre is focused on getting everyone on board. CGI works with over 300 insurance clients worldwide providing software and implementation support for insurance rating solutions, working at the leading edge of data augmentation, including telematics and Industry collaborative data sources. Our Spark Centre at the Institute for Informatics & Digital Innovation is just one of the ways we re encouraging fresh thinking. It s just one of our dedicated environments to help create new ideas and ways of solving challenges. We have eight distinct programmes and we run events with clients to inspire new concepts and approaches.

www.cgi-group.co.uk 8 Our rich insurance heritage We ve been helping insurers, brokers and re-insurers, aggregators and affinity partners for over 35 years, across all areas of the market. Our unique capabilities allow us to unite a technological approach (different ways to gather and store large quantities of information) with our information services (using data to create a bigger picture and tailor solutions) to present the strongest possible solution to you. Our background in technology means that we ve got a distinct advantage with our knowledge base. We understand how to join data together, as well as how to expose it in new ways. Our work in the ATM business demonstrates that we recognise its value, too, and know how to bring that to the forefront of every innovation. We helped Aviva build the first trial of their telematic systems. It placed them at the cutting edge, allowing them to pave the way with usage based insurance pricing. Fundamentally, they were able to connect people in a completely new way, transforming their business. We re currently working with the Motor Insurer s Bureau (MIB) to create a centralised capability ( hub ) for bringing together vast quantities of data and distributing it back out to insurers. It will cut down fraud and help customers to get a better deal something (unsurprisingly) the AA found 99 per cent of consumers were in favour of. In addition, we work with seven of the top ten UK insurers and eight of the top ten global insurers altogether we re working with over 160 insurance clients worldwide. Our status as the fifth largest independent business and IT firm means that we re in a great position to present unique solutions to the industry. Our tools and partnerships provide end-to-end service to our clients, including consultancy, system integration and outsourcing services. Our IP-based proprietary software solutions for Rating Underwriting, Policy Administration, Claims Management and Fraud Detection are best-in-class, and we ve got more than 3,500 dedicated professionals who deal with General, Life and Health insurance.
